Steve Hackett’s latest performance in Japan, where the reproduction of the masterpieces “Knight of the Moon” and “Seconds Out” is very popular. Following the first report the other day, further finest original recordings have arrived. Two works will be released at the same time!
It was the performance of “July 9, 2022: Club Citta Kawasaki” that was imbued with this work. It is the best audience recording that vacuum packed the whole story. The other day, the first report “KAWASAKI 2022 1ST NIGHT (Amity 684)” was well received, and this week, this work and “KAWASAKI 2022 FINAL NIGHT (Amity 686)” will be released at the same time. There will be a total of 3 works, but what kind of position will each of them be in this visit to Japan? Let’s apply it to the schedule.

Above, all 3 performances. That’s all for this visit to Japan, and it’s complete with the consecutive releases last week / this week. This work is the second part of the trilogy, but in terms of sound, it is the best masterpiece. It is the latest work in a long time by Mr. “West Japan’s strongest taper” who is familiar in our shop, but the skill and sense of the master who is acclaimed as “like a sound board” and “better sound than heard in the field” every time is Korona-ka. It is still alive in 2022. The core of the bone is close without a sense of distance, and the details are super clear to the finest parts. It’s not mistaken for a sound board because it has a fresh clapping at the beginning, but it stops immediately, and when it comes to playing, it feels like a sound board.
The high tones that stretched well to the deep bass that felt the vibration of the floor were captured beautifully, but the vocals were especially wonderful. Nad Sylvain’s singing voice stands out clearly, and even if thick keyboards and chorus work overlap, they never mix. Although this trilogy is a wonderful recording for the three parties, the vividness of this vocal is unique to this work. Especially for this visit to Japan, “Knight of the Moon” and “Seconds Out” are the only keywords, and the delicacy of Nad’s vocals, which is reminiscent of Peter Gabriel / Phil Collins, is especially important. It is the biggest factor that makes you want to step out half a step and call this work a “masterpiece” among the masterpieces.
The highest sound is a full show that is “partial reproduction of the second out + complete reproduction of the moon shadow knight”. The structure of the show was mentioned in the explanation of the previous work “KAWASAKI 2022 1ST NIGHT”, but let’s organize it again for those who missed it.

…… And it looks like this. The show consists of two parts, “Part 1 = Second Out without Moon Shadow” and “Part 2 = Knight of Moon Shadow”. When I came to Japan, “Seconds Out Complete Reproduction” was also touted, but even “Seconds Out” has a “Knight of the Moon” number, so if I really wanted to completely reproduce it, I wouldn’t play several songs twice. It shouldn’t be. The first part of this time was a transformation reproduction that avoided it. And instead? The encore after the second part is “Seconds Out” specification again. In other words, it is also an “extended version of Seconds Out” that includes the entire “Knight of the Moon”.
The invasion of the 7th wave was whispered in the damn new Corona Pandemic, and the rush to Japan, which began to rise, could be flooded. Will Steve Hackett’s visit to Japan be a signal to the resurrection of the Western music scene, or is it just the rainy season in Japan suffering from the plague? I don’t know yet, but this work will be handed down as a symbol of it. The best masterpiece that you can be sure of. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

This is the latest work by Mr. “Western Japan’s strongest taper” after a long time, and it is awesome to go “as if it were a sound board” on the ground. From the well-extended treble to the deep bass that you can feel the vibration of the floor, the vocals stand out clearly and clearly, and even if the thick keyboard and chorus work overlap, they never mix. そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2022年７月９日：クラブチッタ川崎」公演。その一部始終を真空パックした極上オーディエンス録音です。先日は第一報の『KAWASAKI 2022 1ST NIGHT（Amity 684）』が好評を賜り、今週は本作と『KAWASAKI 2022 FINAL NIGHT（Amity 686）』が同時リリース。合計３作となるわけですが、それぞれ今回の来日でどんなポジションにあたるのか。スケジュールに当てはめてみましょう。

以上、全３公演。今回の来日はこれですべてであり、先週／今週の連続リリースでコンプリートです。本作は三部作の中編となるわけですが、サウンド面ではイチオシの最高傑作。当店ではお馴染みの“西日本最強テーパー”氏による久々の最新作なのですが、毎度毎度「まるでサウンドボード」「現場で聴いたよりも良い音」と絶賛される名手の腕前とセンスは、コロナ禍を経た2022年も健在。骨太の芯は距離感なく迫り、ディテールも微細部まで超鮮明。冒頭で生々しい手拍子も入るのでサウンドボードと間違えはしませんが、それもすぐに止み、演奏だけになるとサウンドボードのような気がしてくる。
良く伸びる高音から床の振動まで感じる重低音まで綺麗に捉えられているのですが、特に素晴らしいのはヴォーカル。ナッド・シルヴァンの歌声がクッキリ・ハッキリと浮き立ち、ぶ厚いキーボードやコーラスワークが重なり合っても決して混じり合わない。今回の三部作は三者三様に素晴らしい録音ではあるものの、このヴォーカルの鮮やかさは本作だけのもの。特に今回の来日は『月影の騎士』『セカンズ・アウト』がキーワードだけに、ピーター・ガブリエル／フィル・コリンズを彷彿とさせるナッドのヴォーカルの妙味はことさら重要。傑作ぞろいな中で、半歩抜け出して本作を「最高傑作」と推したくなる最大要因なのです。
そんなハイエスト・サウンドで描かれるのは「セカンズ・アウトの部分再現＋月影の騎士の完全再現」となるフルショウ。ショウの構造は前作『KAWASAKI 2022 1ST NIGHT』の解説でも述べましたが、見逃された方のために今一度整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。ショウは「第一部＝月影ぬきのセカンズアウト」「第二部＝月影の騎士」の二部構成。来日では「セカンズ・アウト完全再現」も喧伝されましたが、『セカンズ・アウト』にだって『月影の騎士』ナンバーはあるわけで、本当に完全再現しようとしたら何曲か二度ずつ演奏しなくてはならなくなる。今回の第一部は、それを避けた変形再現だったわけです。そして、その代わり？第二部後のアンコールは再び『セカンズ・アウト』仕様。つまり、『月影の騎士』を丸ごと盛り込んだ「拡張版セカンズ・アウト」でもあるわけです。
忌々しい新型コロナ・パンデミックも第七波の襲来が囁かれ、盛り上がり始めた来日ラッシュに水が差されかねない事態になってきました。今回のスティーヴ・ハケット来日が洋楽シーン復活の狼煙となるのか、それとも疫病に苛まれる日本の梅雨の晴れ間に過ぎないのか。それはまだ分かりませんが、本作はその象徴として語り継がれていくことでしょう。そう確信できる最高傑作。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください。
