Steve Hackett, who overcame the new Corona Pandemic and realized his first performance in Japan in four years. An urgent release is decided for the original recording that conveys the latest live performances with the theme of GENESIS’s masterpieces “Knight of the Moon” and “Dazzling Super Live”.
It was the performance of “July 8, 2022: Club Citta Kawasaki” that was imbued with this work. It is the thick audience recording. This visit to Japan is only for Kawasaki 3 performances, and this work is a live album that vacuum-packed the whole story of the first day. It’s incredible to be able to introduce the latest arrivals in Japan in this way, but it is the sound of this work that further enhances that emotion.
It was an original recording handed over from the recorder himself, but this is also wonderful. While it is filled with the beauty of an audience that has absorbed the sound of the hall, its density and detail are far from the audience. The secret to not hiding the details even if the sound is thick is that the core is extremely thick and has a rushing power. The core, which boasts a generous response to the deep bass, breaks through the air and reaches straight to the ear. Especially wonderful is the vivid mid-high range. While the deep bass such as bass drum and bass is a little more powerful, the core of the mid-high range such as vocals, snare, and keyboard is full of soundboard-like zero-distance feeling, and the subtleties are clear. The contrast is that Hackett’s first-class symphonic rock has a powerful dynamism.
The dynamic sound is drawn with the latest full show, which is a hot topic in the reproduction of GENESIS masterpieces. Hackett had been touring the reproduction of “Dazzling Super Live” before coming to Japan, but this time he was also promoting the reproduction of “Knight of the Moon Shadow”. Of course, “Dazzling Super Live” also includes the “Knight of the Moon” number, so it is impossible to completely reproduce the two works at the same time … It was a little mystery how the show was composed. .. Now let’s do a set analysis that is the answer.
● Part 1 (DISC 1)
・ Dazzling Super Live (A side): Squonk / The Carpet Crawlers / Robbery, Assault & Battery / Afterglow
・ Dazzling Super Live (B / C side): The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway / The Musical Box / Supper’s Ready
● Part 2 (DISC 2)
・ Knight of the Moon (all songs)
● Encore (DISC 3)
・ Dazzling Super Live (D side): Dance on a Volcano / Los Endos (incl. Slogans)
…… And it looks like this. Hackett’s solo song is almost GENESIS heaven, with just a little glimpse into “Los Endos”, which is played at the very end. The show is “two-part + encore”, and this work is a three-disc set with one disc each. The second part is a complete reproduction of “Knight of the Moon”, which is played exactly in the order of the songs. And before and after that, the “Dazzling Super Live” numbers are scattered. While the “Knight of the Moon” number is omitted, the song order is as per the album. As a result, the A side of “Dazzling Super Live” is completely reproduced, and the B, C, and D sides are reproduced without teeth.
It may seem halfway to write like this, but when you actually listen to it, the flow is perfect. The show started just like the dramatic opening of “Dazzling Super Live”, and while immersing himself in the world of the famous live board, he was surprised that the “Knight of the Moon” number was removed in the B-side part. And, “Knight of the Moon Shadow” is completely reproduced! If the whole live album was reproduced, it would be too readable to read ahead and get tired of it, but the “flow of the daimyo board” and the “slightly changing ball” would be good hooks and would push through the full show.
Currently, in Japan, while the rush to announce the arrival of the weir in Japan continues, the invasion of the 7th wave of the new corona is also whispered. Steve Hackett’s visit to Japan was successful for the time being, as the situation became uncertain again. This work is the first of the original recordings that depict the whole story with extra-thick and neat sound. Hackett who brought the bliss of progressive rock to Japan in 2022 with the masterpieces of GENESIS. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
★ Extra-thick audience recording of “July 8, 2022: Club Citta Kawasaki” performance. It is an original recording handed over from the recorder himself, and it is a brand that is far from the guest record in terms of density and detail. The core is extremely thick and has a rushing force, and the core that boasts a generous response to the deep bass breaks through the feeling of air and reaches straight to the ear. The show is a complete reproduction of “Knight of the Moon Shadow” in the second part in the middle while building the “Dazzling Super Live” world with the first part and encore in GENESIS. This is the first report of the revival of Japan overcoming the new Korona-ka.
