SCORPIONS in 1990, who became the darling of the era with the big hit of “CRAZY WORLD” involving all of Europe. A new excavation live album that allows you to experience the glorious scene is now available.
“Performance in Paris on December 11, 1990” is imbued in this work. It is an excellent audience recording that vacuum-packed the whole story. Speaking of “CRAZY WORLD Tour”, the official video “A SAVAGE CRAZY WORLD” was also left, and it is memorable that the first visit to Japan in six years was realized. This is SCORPIONS in the “CRAZY WORLD” era. It was also a time when they, who should have been a mere rock band, transformed into a symbol of the end of the Cold War. In July, he also appeared in Roger Waters’ “THE WALL: LIVE IN BERLIN”, and two and a half months later, the unification of East and West Germany was realized. Then, one year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, he released “CRAZY WORLD”. The Paris performance of this work was the 13th performance of “Europe # 1” about a month later. The Berlin performance of the official video “A SAVAGE CRAZY WORLD” was also held in this “Europe # 1”, but this work was also about a week later.
This work, which records such a show, was excavated from the much-talked-about virtuoso collection. The master is “Stephane”. He is a person who has released famous recordings in the late 80’s / early 90’s one after another, and at our shop we have press masterpieces such as BLACK SABBATH’s “DEFINITIVE PARIS 1992 (Zodiac 467)” and IRON MAIDEN’s “PARIS 1993 (Zodiac 469)”. is very popular. In addition, JUDAS PRIEST, W.A.S.P., QUEENSRYCHE, AC / DC, etc. have also released masterpiece Paris recordings, and ANTHRAX’s “PARIS 1989 (Shades 1738)”, which will be released at the same time this week, is also this master collection.
This work is a product that will further increase the fame of “Stephane”. It is not the type to be mistaken for a sound board, but the strength and density of the core that penetrates the air is wonderful. It doesn’t mean that the sense of distance is zero, but it’s just a matter of tone. The core has almost no feeling of sparseness, and the details are fine while the hall sound produces thickness. The crunchy guitar chops are also very clear. Moreover, despite being so powerful, it does not flinch or collapse.
The vocals are especially overwhelming. Klaus Meine’s singing voice stretches straight and beautifully, and you can clearly understand every word of the lyrics. Furthermore, even if Rudolf Schenker’s chorus is involved there, it will not mix. Of course, the sound output from the band at the site is also clear, but apparently it is not the only one. As mentioned above, Mr. “Stephane” is working on recordings of various bands, but this ease of listening to vocals is common to all bands. It is also a characteristic of the “Stephane” collection that even thrash metal ANTHRAX does not shake.
A full show that concentrates the heyday of the “Golden Five” is depicted with such a rich and vivid sound. As mentioned above, this show is also the latest of “A SAVAGE CRAZY WORLD”, but the official video was only an excerpt and it was also a mixed work with PV inserted. そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1990年12月11日パリ公演」。その一部始終を真空パックした絶品オーディエンス録音です。“CRAZY WORLD Tour”と言えば、公式映像『A SAVAGE CRAZY WORLD』も残されましたし、６年ぶりの来日が実現した事でも思い出深いところ。まずは、そんな当時のスケジュールを紐解き、ショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが『CRAZY WORLD』時代のSCORPIONS。一介のロックバンドであったはずの彼らが、冷戦終結の象徴へと変貌していった時期でもありました。７月にはロジャー・ウォーターズの『THE WALL: LIVE IN BERLIN』にも出演し、その２ヶ月半後には故国ドイツの東西統一が実現。そして、ベルリンの壁崩壊から１年のタイミングで『CRAZY WORLD』をリリースした。本作のパリ公演は、その約１ヶ月後にあたる「欧州#1」の13公演目にあたるコンサートでした。この「欧州#1」には公式映像『A SAVAGE CRAZY WORLD』のベルリン公演も行われたわけですが、本作はその約１週間後というタイミングでもありました。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、話題の名手コレクションから発掘されたもの。その名手とは「Stephane」氏。80年代末／90年代初頭の名録音を次々と発表している人物で、当店でもBLACK SABBATHの『DEFINITIVE PARIS 1992（Zodiac 467）』やIRON MAIDENの『PARIS 1993（Zodiac 469）』といったプレス名盤が大人気。他にもJUDAS PRIESTやW.A.S.P.、QUEENSRYCHE、AC/DC等でも傑作パリ録音を連発、今週同時リリースとなるANTHRAXの『PARIS 1989（Shades 1738）』もこの達人コレクションなのです。
本作は、そんな「Stephane」氏の名声をさらに高める業物。サウンドボードと間違えるタイプではありませんが、空気感を貫く芯の力強さと密度が素晴らしい。距離感ゼロというわけではないのですが、それはあくまで音色の話。芯にはスカスカ感がほとんどなく、ホール鳴りが厚みを演出しながらディテールまで細かい。ザクザクとしたギターの刻みもえらく克明なのです。しかも、それだけパワフルにもかかわらず、ビビったり潰れたりしません。
特に圧倒的なのがヴォーカル。クラウス・マイネの歌声は真っ直ぐ美しく伸びつつ、歌詞の一語一語までくっきりと分かる。さらに言えば、そこにルドルフ・シェンカーのコーラスが絡んでも混じり合わない。もちろん、現場のバンド出音がクリアでもあるのでしょうが、どうやらそれだけでもないようです。上記のように「Stephane」氏は様々なバンドの録音を手掛けているわけですが、このヴォーカルの聴きやすさはどのバンドでも共通。スラッシュメタルのANTHRAXでさえ揺るがない「Stephane」コレクションの特性でもあるのです。
そんなリッチ＆鮮やかサウンドで画かれるのは「黄金の５人」によって全盛時代を濃縮したフルショウ。前述のように、このショウは『A SAVAGE CRAZY WORLD』の直近でもありますが、公式映像はあくまでも抜粋でPVも差し込んだ混ぜ物作品でもありました。それに対し、本作は本生100％のフルライヴ。早速、比較しながらセットも整理しておきましょう。

“CRAZY WORLD Tour”の終了後、蠍団からフランシス・ブッフホルツが追放。以降30年間、現在に至るまで「黄金の５人」が戻ることはありませんでした。本作に記録されているのは、そんな全盛期の最後に実現した大成功ツアーなのです。栄光に包まれた絶頂の現場、どうぞ名手コレクションの本作で存分にご体験ください。
