No way, there was such a great sound and a great live album. It’s just started in 2022, but it’s definitely the best this year … No, this is the biggest shocking board in the history of SCORPIONS for more than 50 years. And it is the best excavation board in history. One of those shocks is a permanent preservation press CD!

[Impact excavation of transcendental recording immediately after joining Uri] It became more confusing than ever, but how can you be calm in front of this work? “May 3, 1974 Minden performance” is engraved in such a strong shocking work. It is a transcendental live album recorded at the show just welcoming Uli Jon Roth (at that time Ulrich Roth) who is only 19 years old (!). I usually search for the position of the show on the tour schedule, but there are too few records at that time, and the existence of this show itself was unknown. Roughly speaking, the masterpiece “FLY TO THE RAINBOW” was “produced in April 1974 → released in November”, so it was time to wait for half a year until it was released, even though it was just completed. Uri’s oldest live record is “April 1973”, and one year later, this work will be the second oldest record.
Those who thought “what is the second?” Are too premature. Not only is this work old, but the sound quality is too transcendent. I didn’t say “sound board” or “audience” out of the ordinary, but it’s actually a spatial recording where the microphone and equipment are known. However, the flowing sound is not the white thing associated with the word “audience”. It’s a surprising type, so-called “This is not a sound board !?”, and the high quality is no longer the dimension that says that the sense of distance is ○○ or the sound is ◇◇, but the official live album class … That is “TOKYO”. It is comparable to “TAPES”. On the contrary, the tight and thick feeling is not even in the category of stage live, but in the range that seems to be a rough mix of BBC sessions and studio albums.

[Full show like the enlarged version FLY TO THE RAINBOW] While saying that “sound is amazing”, the content of the live is also intense. Let’s start with the set.

…… And it looks like this. The axis is “FLY TO THE RAINBOW”. While singing Uri and Rudolph as well as the album, they are showing all the songs except “Fly People Fly” even though they are still on sale, and the title song does not suddenly start with a fierce heart like “TOKYO TAPES”. It starts with a quiet guitar as per the album.
Of course, one album isn’t enough, so it’s the “LONESOME CROW” number that fills the gap. .. .. Not rock and roll standards. From the opening, I was surprised by the selection of Bobby Sherman, and on the contrary, I was smiled at Uri who sang enthusiastically at the last Chuck Berry & Jimi Hendrix. Also, the titles “Hey Hey Hey” and “Far Across The Ocean” in the following songs are unfamiliar, but the former is not a song but a call and response. The latter is a jam session. Klaus adds a vocal that seems to be improvised with the one phrase “Far across the ocean” as a motif, but the melody is somewhat reminiscent of Alice Cooper. In the following “Speedy’s Coming”, he also sings “Do you like Alice Cooper?”

Anyway, it’s amazing. It’s too amazing. It’s not just precious, it’s not just good sound. 19-year-old Uri’s guitar cries, and Klaus’s vocals are already climax. There is no doubt that it is a “live performance version / enlarged version FLY TO THE RAINBOW”, and the real thrill of 70’s hard rock that strikes with sound quality that goes beyond the dimensions of “sound board / audience” is even “TOKYO TAPES” out of the question. It ends up.
No questions asked, SCORPIONS history …… No, the best excavation live album in the history of the music genre “Hard Rock”. It just happened that the protagonist was SCORPIONS. A super-famous board that is nothing but a cultural heritage that stands on such a dimension. Please experience it with a permanent storage press CD.

★ A transcendental audience recording of “May 3, 1974 Minden Performance”. As a matter of fact, it is a spatial recording with a microphone, but the sound that flows out is a transcendental recording that can surpass even “TOKYO TAPES”. まさか、こんな凄い音、凄いライヴアルバムが存在していたとは。2022年も始まったばかりなのに間違いなく今年一番……いや、コレはもう50年を超えるSCORPIONSの歴史上で最大の衝撃盤。そして、史上最高の発掘盤です。そんな衝撃の１枚が永久保存プレスCDで爆誕です!!

【ウリ加入直後の超・超絶録音が衝撃発掘】
いつにも増して錯乱気味になってしまいましたが、本作を前にしてどうして冷静になれましょうか。それほど強烈な衝撃作に刻まれているのは「1974年５月３日ミンデン公演」。若干19歳（！）のウリ・ジョン・ロート（当時はウルリッヒ・ロート）を迎えたばかりのショウで記録された超絶級ライヴアルバムです。普段ならツアー日程でショウのポジションを探るところですが、当時の記録はあまりにも少なく、このショウも存在自体が知られていなかった。ざっくり言いますと、名盤『FLY TO THE RAINBOW』は「1974年４月制作→11月発売」ですから、完成直後ながら発売まで半年待つ……というタイミングでした。ウリ最古のライヴ記録は“1973年４月”で、１年後の本作は二番目に古い記録となります。
「なんだ二番目か」と思われた方は早計に過ぎる。本作は古さもさることながら、サウンド・クオリティがあまりにも超絶。先ほど慣例から外れて「サウンドボード」とも「オーディエンス」とも断言しませんでしたが、実はマイクも機材も判明している空間録音です。しかし、流れ出るサウンドは「オーディエンス」の言葉から連想されるシロモノではない。いわゆる「コレがサウンドボードではない!?」と驚くタイプですし、クオリティの高さはもはや距離感が○○とか、鳴りが◇◇と語る次元ではなく、公式ライヴアルバム級……それこそ『TOKYO TAPES』にも匹敵する。それどころか、完全密着な極太感はステージ・ライヴの範疇でさえなく、BBCセッションやスタジオ・アルバムのラフミックスかと思うような域にあるのです。

【拡大版FLY TO THE RAINBOWのようなフルショウ】
「サウンドこそが凄味」と言っておきながらなんですが、やっぱりライヴの中身も強烈だったりします。まずはセットから見てみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。軸となるのは『FLY TO THE RAINBOW』。アルバムと同じくウリやルドルフも歌いつつ、発売までまだまだあるというのに「Fly People Fly」以外の全曲を披露しており、タイトル曲も『TOKYO TAPES』のようにいきなり激しいハートから始まるのではなく、アルバム通りの静かなギターからスタートしています。
もちろんアルバム１枚では曲が足りないわけで、穴を埋めるのは『LONESOME CROW』ナンバー。。。ではなく、ロックンロールのスタンダード達。オープニングからボビー・シャーマンというセレクトに意表を突かれますし、逆にラストのチャック・ベリー＆ジミヘンで熱唱するウリには微笑ましくなってしまう。また、下記曲目にある「Hey Hey Hey」「Far Across The Ocean」なるタイトルには馴染みがありませんが、前者は曲ではなくコール＆レスポンス。後者はジャム・セッションです。クラウスが「Far across the ocean」というワンフレーズをモチーフに即興らしきヴォーカルを付けていくのですが、そのメロディがどことなくアリス・クーパーを思わせる。続く「Speedy’s Coming」では「Do you like Alice Cooper?」とも歌うわけですが、その初期らしい素直さも眩しいのです。

とにかく凄い。凄すぎる。単に貴重なのではなく、単に音が良いだけでもない。19歳のウリのギターは泣きに泣き、クラウスのヴォーカルはすでに絶頂。間違いなく「生演奏版・拡大版FLY TO THE RAINBOW」であり、「サウンドボードか／オーディエンスか」の次元を超えたサウンド・クオリティで叩きつける70年代ハードロックの醍醐味は『TOKYO TAPES』さえ問題外にしてしまう。
問答無用でSCORPIONS史上……いえ、音楽ジャンル「Hard Rock」の歴史上最高の発掘ライヴアルバム。その主役がたまたまSCORPIONSだったに過ぎません。そんな次元に立つ文化遺産以外の何物でもない超名盤。どうぞ、永久保存プレスCDでご体験ください。
