And the sound is really wonderful. The previous work “WASHINGTON 2022” was also the best sound for the first report, but this work is as good as it is. これが現在までに公表されている“50th Anniversary Tour”の全体像。ツアーが話題になるにつれて日程が増えるのではないかと噂されましたが、今はまだ当初発表された全13公演のままです。そんな中で本作のイングルウッド公演は北米レッグの最終日。本稿が公開されるのは母国イギリスの初日グラスゴウ公演も終わった頃ですので、まさに録りたてほやほやの最新ライヴアルバムなのです。
そして、そのサウンドも実に素晴らしい。前作『WASHINGTON 2022』も第一報にしては極上のサウンドでしたが、本作も勝るとも劣らない。個性は似ており、骨太な芯と艶やかなホール鳴りが両立するリッチ・サウンド。あえて比較するなら前作は中高音のアタック音が力強くグイグイと迫ってくる感じでしたが、本作はそこまでの突進力がない代わりに、重低音がより芳醇。どっしりとしながらも輪郭がボケず、豊かなグルーヴがたっぷりと味わえるのです。
こう書くと低音だけが突き出たサウンドと思われるかも知れませんが、そうではありません。あくまで『WASHINGTON 2022』を体験された方向けに比較した話であり、本作自体は中音域もたっぷりとした手応えを誇り、高音の伸びも素晴らしい。非常にバランスの取れた均整の美録音でもあるのです。
そんなリッチ・サウンドで描かれるのは、50周の歴史を祝うフルショウ。まだ２作目でもありますので、ここでは11年前の前回リユニオン・ツアーと比較しながら整理しておきましょう。
