RAINBOW in the 90’s, which was also the culmination of Ritchie Blackmore style HR. A new masterpiece born from the unknown center of Denmark is a permanent preservation decision.
The engraving on this work is “August 11, 1996 Copenhagen Performance”. This is the best audience recording when he appeared in the Danish rock festival “GIANTS OF ROCK”. RAINBOW, who raised the signal of the resurrection in “Stranger in Us All” in the summer of 1995, also started the tour. I went around the world for about 20 months and 74 performances. This is a panoramic view of RAINBOW’s activities that revived in the 90’s. Denmark is the only country where live performances were held in the three sections of 1995/1996/1997, and the “GIANTS OF ROCK” performance of this work is in the middle. It was a concert of “Europe # 2”, which was the Chiaki music, and was the final performance of the veteran Chuck Burgi who knew RAINBOW in the 1980s.
The sound of this work recorded at such a special site is also special. It is a new master that has been distributed very recently, but this is already super direct. The core is very thick, there is no squishy sound, and the details are fine. I don’t mistake it for a sound board because I can hear the lively cheers hidden in the shadow of the powerful performance sound, but I want to mistake the strength and the feeling of close contact. “Mistreated” is especially surprising. Here, the echo is deepened on the guitar and vocals, but it is clear when the on-site engineer turned the knob. The bass and the rugged attack sound are clear and beautiful, and it is a beautiful recording that is not only powerful but also ridiculously delicate.
The beautiful sound is a full show unique to 1996. Actually, this work is not only the whole story on the last day (August 11th), but also the new recording on the same day before Denmark (August 10th) has 5 songs added as a bonus. Let’s organize them together here.

This work closes with the recording of “August 10” the day before, which is as good as the main story. これが90年代に復活したRAINBOWの活動全景。デンマークは1995年／1996年／1997年の３セクションでライヴが行われた唯一の国でして、本作の“GIANTS OF ROCK”公演は、その真ん中。「欧州#2」の千秋楽にあたるコンサートであり、80年代RAINBOWを知る古参チャック・バーギの最終公演でもありました。
そんなスペシャルな現場で記録された本作は、サウンドも特別。ごく最近になって流通するようになった新マスターなのですが、これがもう超ダイレクト。芯は極太だわ、鳴りにスカスカ感は皆無だわ、ディテールは細やかだわ。強力な演奏音の影に隠れるように生々しい喝采も聞こえるためにサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、力強さと密着感は間違えたくなる。特にハッとするのが「Mistreated」。ここでギターやヴォーカルにエコーが深めにかかるのですが、現場エンジニアがいつツマミを回したのかもハッキリと分かる。ベースもゴリゴリとしたアタック音もくっきり美しく、力強いだけでなくとんでもなく繊細でもある美録音なのです。
その美音で描かれるのは、1996年ならではのフルショウ。実は、本作は最終日（８月11日）の全編だけでなく、同じデンマークの前日（８月10日）の新録音も５曲ボーナス追加されています。ここで合わせて整理しておきましょう。
