One year after their shocking debut, THE POLICE in 1979 swept the rock scene with tremendous momentum. A new master piece appears in the soundboard collection.
“September 29, 1979 New York City performance” is recorded in this work. It is the stereo sound board recording. I think that those who have noticed this article have realized, but the sound board situation of THE POLICE in 1979 is abnormal. In the era of band sales, there was a lot of media exposure, and it makes sense that there would be a lot of FM soundboards, but even so, there are many THE POLICE. This work, which was completed at such a show, is a top-class sound board even in the 1979 collection. Although it is an FM sound board with a DJ at the beginning, the direct feeling that can only be thought of as being directly connected to the mix desk is amazing. The first song “So Lonely” had a deep effect at the beginning of the song, so I wondered if they had to remix it later. The bread that blows off with a violent swing is also intense, as if you don’t think about being played by home audio.
Its sound quality is comparable to the new press masterpiece “THE EDGE 1979 SOUNDBOARD”, and this work is also a permanent preservation press grade. However, the only problem was “Peanuts”. The song disappeared with a fade as soon as it started, making it an incomplete recording. I think that it was probably such a broadcast, but as a music work, it inevitably lacks a sense of art. Expecting a miracle that the complete master will flow out in the future, this time it was introduced from the Uxbridge label.

そんな本作に記録されているのは「1979年９月29日ニューヨークシティ公演」。そのステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。本稿に目を留められた方なら実感されていると思いますが、1979年THE POLICEのサウンドボード事情は異常。バンドの売り出し時代はメディア露出も多く、FMサウンドボードが多くなるのも道理なのですが、それにしてもTHE POLICEは多い。もちろん１作１作でショウのポジションも作品の意義も異なってくるのですが、「○○○ 1979」というタイトルだけでは到底、把握できません。例によって、まずは当時のスケジュールで位置関係をチェックしてみましょう。

これが1979年のTHE POLICE。今週同時リリースのプレス新名盤『THE EDGE 1979 SOUNDBOARD（Wardour-556）』を筆頭に、このところ様々なサウンドボード・アルバムが連発していますが、そのほとんどが“OUTLANDOS D’AMOUR Tour”の記録でした。それに対して本作は“REGGATTA DE BLANC Tour”。「北米#3」の３公演目にあたるコンサートでした。公式『LIVE!』にも1979年ボストン公演が収録されていましたが、本作はその約２ヶ月前でもありました。
そんなショウできろくされた本作は、1979年コレクションでもトップクラスの極上サウンドボード。冒頭にDJが入るFMサウンドボードですが、ミックス卓直結としか思えないダイレクト感が凄まじい。１曲目「So Lonely」の歌い出しで深いエフェクトがかかるので後からミックスし直したのかな……と思いきや、歌ってる最中にいきなりエフェクトが消える豪快さはやっパリ現場ミックス。家庭用オーディオで流される事を考えていないような、猛烈な振り幅で吹っ飛ぶパンも強烈です。
そのサウンド・クオリティはプレス新名盤『THE EDGE 1979 SOUNDBOARD』にも匹敵し、本作も完全に永久保存プレス級。ただ、唯一問題になったのが「Peanuts」。開始早々にフェイドで曲が消え、不完全収録となっているのです。恐らくはこういう放送だったと思うのですが、音楽作品としてはどうしても画竜点睛を欠いてしまう。将来的に完全マスターが流出する奇跡を期待し、今回はUxbridgeレーベルからのご紹介となりました。
そんなプレス級サウンドで画かれるのは、一気にカラフルになった“REGGATTA DE BLANC Tour”。直近の代表サウンドボードと言えば、当店のプレス名盤『HAMMERSMITH PALAIS 1979（Wardour-387）』が大定番ですので、比較しながら整理しておきましょう。
