Pat Benatar who enjoyed stardom in the early 1980s. She was over thirty at the time, and when she approached Alafor, she sought to change direction from the rock singer or pop star line to push her maturity.
Perhaps it was partly due to her senior Linda Ronstadt’s success on the jazzy big band line in the mid-1980s, with Benatar trying to find a way to the blues line with the same big band. did.
The album that pushed out that attempt to the whole story was “TRUE LOVE” in 1991. In Japan at that time, it was undeniable that it was treated as a person of the past, and it was not talked about at all, but the Etta James-like route change of the new era was welcomed in the United States and the United Kingdom, 180 degrees Recorded enough hits to win a gold disc while turning around.
Of course, the tour that brought up this album was also called “TRUE LOVE RHYTHM & BLUES”, and in addition to the songs recorded in the album, it was made up of only blues covers, and it was a show that did not do any songs from the pop rock era.

Because it was a unique work of her career, there was almost no way to know the tour at that time. However, there was a person who recorded the blues show of such a precious time with the best sound quality. It was Mike Millard who left this record!
Rather than her in the Eighties Star period, her sound in 1991 should have been a favorite from Millard’s point of view, and it was natural that she went to record the stage of Benatar, which seemed to be unique at first glance.
Moreover, the place is a small venue called Wiltan Theater. It is also a perfect theater to demonstrate the skills unique to Millard. For that reason, Benatar’s powerful stage is captured with a wonderful sound image this time as well.

Besides, the repertoire is only blues covers, and in fact, there are many songs that rock enthusiasts are familiar with. I see … No wonder Millard goes out.
“I Get Evil” covered by The Rolling Stones as “Don’t Lie To Me”, “Help Me” by Van Morrison’s longtime stage repertoire, and “Don” by Bob Dylan on a television show. “T Start Me Talkin'”, all the songs that enthusiasts have heard.
And what surprises me most is that the venue is insanely lively, despite the aggressive composition of no songs from the past. From this, it can be seen that Benatar’s blues singer line received overwhelming support in the United States. This is a fact that was hardly known in Japan until now.
Although it is a stage with a unique work, it is a shocking work that captures the big band blues show that everyone can enjoy with the highest quality (a level that can be released on a press CD). It’s a mirrored album that all rock enthusiasts can’t help but confidently recommend!

1980年代前半にスターダムを謳歌したパット・ベネター。当時ですら30を過ぎていた彼女もアラフォーに差し掛かると、成熟を押し出すべくそれまでのロックシンガーあるいはポップスターの路線からの方向転換を模索。
先輩格であるリンダ・ロンシュタットが80年代半ばにジャジーなビッグバンド路線で成功を収めていた影響もあったのでしょう、ベネターの場合は同じビックバンドでもブルース路線へと活路を見出そうとしました。
その試みを全編に押し出したアルバムが1991年の「TRUE LOVE」。当時の日本では既に過去の人扱いされてしまった感が否めず、まったく話題にならなかった一枚ですが、新たな時代のエタ・ジェイムズ的な路線変更はアメリカとイギリスで歓迎され、180度の方向転換ながらゴールド・ディスクを獲得するに十分なヒットを記録。
当然このアルバムを引っ提げたツアーも「TRUE LOVE RHYTHM & BLUES」と名打たれ、アルバム収録曲に加え、さらなるブルース・カバーだけで構成されたという、ポップ・ロック時代の曲を一切しないショーとして敢行。

さすがに彼女のキャリアの異色作であったことから、当時そのツアーを知るすべは全くと言っていいほどなかった。ところが、そんな貴重な時期のブルース・ショーを極上音質で録音してくれた人がいてくれたのです。この記録を残してくれたのは、何とマイク・ミラード！
むしろエイティーズ・スター期の彼女よりも91年の彼女のサウンドの方がミラードからすれば俄然好みだったはずで、一見異色とも思えたベネターのステージを録音に出向いたのも当然のことかと。
しかも場所はウィルタン・シアターという小会場。ミラードならではの手腕を発揮するには申し分のないシアターでもある。それだけに今回も素晴らしい音像でベネター迫力のステージが捉えられています。

それにレパートリーはブルース・カバーばかりだけに、実はロックマニアには聞き覚えのある曲が多い。なるほど…どうりでミラードが出向く訳ですね。
ローリング・ストーンズが「Don’t Lie To Me」としてカバーした「I Get Evil」、ヴァン・モリソン長年のステージ・レパートリーである「Help Me」、そしてボブ・ディランがテレビ番組で披露していた「Don’t Start Me Talkin’」といった具合に、マニアならどこで聞いたことがある曲ばかり。
そして何より驚かされるのは、往年の曲が一切なしという攻めの構成だったにもかかわらず、会場がめちゃくちゃ盛り上がっているという。このことからもベネターのブルースシンガー路線がアメリカで圧倒的な支持を受けていたことが解ります。これは現在に至るまで日本ではほとんど知られていなかった事実でしょう。
異色作を引っ提げたステージでありながら、実は誰もが楽しめるビッグバンド・ブルース・ショーを極上のクオリティで捉えてくれた衝撃作（プレスCDでリリースされたとしてもおかしくないレベル）。すべてのロックマニアに自信を持って推せずにはいられないミラード・アルバムです！
