As I have touched on many times in “BERGEN 1997 SOUNDBOARD” and “MALMO 1997”, which was a groundbreaking starting release of the legendary 1997 tour, Jackson Browne and David Lindley’s acoustic tour. It was not the sound source that told the pattern in the rear tie, but the VHS by the audience shot of the Brescia performance in Italy on April 9th.
The environment where both the performers and the audience were seated was a success, and for an audience shot in 1997, it was a live video that could be enjoyed at a surprisingly easy-to-see angle. It seems to be a standard video and is still in a state of high compression rate on YouTube, but it is uploaded by song and you can catch a glimpse. In fact, there should be more than a few maniacs who have been indebted to this video since the VHS era. However, this 1997 European tour, the excavation of the sound board included that of the Brescia performance, so it’s hard.

The audience shot certainly conveyed the atmosphere of the two extremely rare tours, but the audio was just a dull sound captured by the microphone attached to the camera. On the other hand, this time it is a dignified DAT digital sound board. That way it doesn’t compare.
As well as the outstanding stereo sound quality of the Bergen performance that was released at the same time, the small number of sounds of two people was successful, and the thickness of the instruments played by each of them was transmitted to the super high quality. Still, the stereo separation is mesmerizing. It guarantees a high-quality sound experience that you can enjoy overwhelmingly whether you listen through speakers or listen through headphones.
Just like in Bergen, the sound quality is perfect enough to be released as an official live album if the ambient cheers are added here. No matter how much the visual is included, the difference is too large with the distant and narrow range of the voice captured by the microphone of the video camera.

In addition, although it is familiar from the VHS era, the tour with Lindley, which has been underway for a long time, is about to enter the middle stage, and the staging that can be said to completely revive the breath of Aun in the past is also wonderful. After all, the sound quality is outstanding, so you can clearly feel how the two are relaxing and challenging the stage. What can I say, I feel like I can show you the difference between a band member hired for a tour and a longtime partner you can trust. Even as Jackson, there is no doubt that he toured because he wanted to enjoy the stage with Lindley, who returned to his original intentions.
In addition to that, the light footwork of just the two of them paid off, and the setlist of this tour showed a different development every night, as evidenced by the first two titles. However, with regard to this Brescia performance, the performance of the two people who are enjoying the stage with such a harmonious atmosphere has escalated to a performance time that spans three discs.
This is also because it was the first time in a long time that Jackson and Lindley, who is a reliable partner, went on stage together, but the fact that the set list on this day was unusual. Of course, early masterpieces such as “Song For Adam” and “My Opening Farewell”, which is still memorable for the impression on the last day of Tokyo the other day, but also the title song of the latest album at that time, “The Barricades Of Heaven” from there. Both new and old songs are featured in a very well-balanced manner (thanks to the long stage), and as a result, it is a bliss that you can enjoy a rich selection of songs that can be called the strongest set list of 1997 on an acoustic stage with just the two of you.
Even Lindley benefited from the long performance time, and his songs were performed twice in the beginning and the second half of the live performance. After all, the tour has been digested and the ensemble in which Jackson turns to his backing has reached the stage of completion, and not only is it a long stage, but it is also a phantom in that the exquisite combination with Lindley is clear. It can be called the best performance of the 1997 European tour. Above all, the impact of Brescia’s stereo sound board complete version that maniacs have been familiar with for many years!

今回の『BERGEN 1997 SOUNDBOARD』や伝説の1997年ツアーの画期的な先発リリースとなった『MALMO 1997』でも再三触れてまいりましたように、ジャクソン・ブラウンとデヴィッド・リンドレー二人のアコースティック・ツアーをリアタイでその模様を伝えてくれたのは音源でなく4月9日のイタリアはブレシア公演のオーディエンスショットによるVHSだったのです。
演者も観客も座る環境だったことが功を奏し、97年当時のオーディエンスショットとしては驚くほど見やすいアングルにて楽しめるライブ映像でした。そこは定番映像らしく現在もYouTube上にて圧縮率高めな状態ではありますが、曲単位でアップされており垣間見ることができます。実際VHS時代からこの映像のお世話になったマニアは少なくないはず。ところが今回の97年ヨーロッパ・ツアー、サウンドボード発掘の中には他ならぬブレシア公演のそれも含まれていたのだからさあ大変。

確かに超レアな二人のツアーの雰囲気を見事に伝えてくれたオーディエンスショットではありましたが、音声の方は所詮カメラ付属のマイクが捉えたショボい音。それに対して今回は堂々たるDATのデジタル・サウンドボード。こうなるとまるで比較にならない。
同時リリースのベルゲン公演と同じく抜群のステレオ音質というだけでなく、二人という音数の少なさが功を奏し、それぞれが奏でる楽器の肉厚感までしっかり伝わってくるスーパーハイクオリティ。それでいてステレオ・セパレーションにもうっとりさせられる。スピーカーから鳴らそうが、ヘッドフォンで聞きこもうが圧倒的に楽しめる高音質体験を保証します。
ベルゲンと同じく、ここに歓声のアンビエントを加味すればオフィシャルなライブアルバムとしてリリースできるほど完璧な音質。いくらヴィジュアル込みでもビデオカメラのマイクが捉えた遠くてレンジの狭い音声では差は大きすぎるというもの。

そしてVHS時代からおなじみではありますが、久々に敢行したリンドレーとのツアーも中盤に差しかかり、かつての阿吽の呼吸ぶりが完全に蘇ったといえるステージングがまた素晴らしい。何しろ音質が抜群ですので、二人がくつろいでステージに挑んでいる様子もはっきり感じられる。こう言っては何ですが、ツアーの為に雇われたバンドメンバーと心を許し合える長年の相棒との違いを見せつけられる思いです。ジャクソンとしても、今一度リンドレーとの初心に返ったステージを楽しみたくてツアーしたことは間違いない。
そこに加えて二人だけというフットワークの軽さが功を奏し、このツアーのセットリストが毎晩異なる展開を見せていたことは最初に挙げた二つのタイトルが証明してくれた通り。ところがこのブレシア公演に関しては、そうした和気あいあいでステージを心から楽しんでいる二人の演奏が何とディスク三枚分にも及ぶ演奏時間へとエスカレートしてしまった。
これもまたジャクソンが頼れる相棒たるリンドレーと久しぶりに一緒にステージに上がったからこそなのですが、実際この日のセットリストの充実ぶりは異様。「Song For Adam」や先日の東京最終日での感動も記憶に新しい「My Opening Farewell」といった初期の名作はもちろんですが、当時の最新アルバムのタイトル曲、そこからの「The Barricades Of Heaven」といった新旧それぞれの楽曲が（長いステージの甲斐あって）非常にバランスよく取り上げられており、結果として1997年当時の最強セットリストと呼べるほど充実した選曲を二人だけのアコースティックなステージで楽しめるという至福。
リンドレーにしても演奏時間が長いという恩恵を受け、彼の持ち歌もライブ序盤と後半の二回に渡って演奏されるという充実ぶり。何と言ってもツアーを消化してジャクソンが彼のバッキングに回るアンサンブルも完成の域に達しており、ただ長いステージというだけでなく、リンドレーとの絶妙なコンビぶりが冴え渡っているという点でも幻の97年ヨーロッパ・ツアー随一の名演と呼べるのではないでしょうか。何よりもマニアが永年映像で親しんできたブレシアのステレオ・サウンドボード完全版という衝撃！
