Unlike 1986, when the same Crazy Horse also had a large-scale American tour and a live broadcast live at the by-product Cow Palace, there was a live video for the tour with Crazy Horse in 1987. It was a time when the existence itself was scarce.
In such an unfavorable situation, the TV broadcast of the Milan performance can be said to be the only professional shot video. Even so, it was edited to be shortened to half the actual performance time, and it was a habit ant video that had the problem of rough image quality due to the barrier of PAL conversion in the 1980s.
In addition to that, I couldn’t get enough of the uncouth telops that were typical of European TV broadcasts in the 80’s, and, last but not least, the disproportionate cheers that were covered from above.

Due to these characteristics, it is a TV broadcast of Milan that was a very valuable professional shot video, but it was also a less appreciated existence, but this autumn the unedited original video was suddenly leaked on YouTube and spread all over the world. It surprises maniacs.
In the first place, it is nothing but a great surprise that unedited video material from television broadcasts from 35 years ago still exists.
There is a flaw in the point that several cuts are included in “Down By The River” because it is an outflow video, and other than that, the songs that were cut in the broadcast at that time are also perfectly seen It is also a rare video of surprise.
Besides, after all, that unsophisticated telop, and even the production of cheers that have been inserted not only between songs but also between interludes, etc., are completely absent, and the 1987 European tour is incomparably more fulfilling than the original broadcast. A super valuable professional shot video that reproduces it appeared.

The original video was recorded from the second half of the opening “Mr. Soul”, so the missing parts were supplemented with the broadcast version at the time of this release. Of course, you can see the full performance with a really natural connection, but with this one song alone, you can compare the unnatural production at the time of broadcasting with the video of this time.
Furthermore, when it appeared on YouTube, the screen was slightly compressed vertically, and there were places where the sound was out of sync. Both issues have been adjusted for this release. Although it is released on DVD-R, there is no omission.

And unlike the 1986 tour when he walked around the stage in a flannel shirt with the sleeves torn off, Neil’s appearance in an orange shirt from a model railroad maker is exactly what he looked like in 1987.
As seen in the movie “YEAR OF THE HORSE”, it is also known as a tour where the troubles between the members did not stop, but in fact in “Powderfinger” Neil made a mistake in the composition, It is documentary that the scene where Billy Talbot rushes to him is captured.
However, Neil Young & Crazy Horse seems to promote such negative elements to the voltage of the performance, and Neil’s high tension in the last “Hey Hey, My My” that was cut in the broadcast at that time is a masterpiece .
Not only is this the first time we’ve seen such a great performance, but the scene of “See The Sky About To Rain”, which has become a hot topic as a rare performance, can also be seen perfectly without unnecessary production. The image quality itself is much better than TV broadcasting. No way that such a precious Neil 87 pro shot video will appear now!

同じクレイジー・ホースでも大々的なアメリカ・ツアーと、そこからの副産物カウ・パレスでの生中継ライブという決定的な存在があった1986年と違い、87年のクレイジー・ホースとのツアーに関してはライブ映像の存在そのものが乏しい時期でした。
そうした恵まれない状況の中にあって唯一のプロショット映像と言っていいのがミラノ公演のテレビ放送でしょう。とはいっても実際の演奏時間の半分にまで短縮編集されてしまい、なおかつ80年代のPAL変換という障壁にも阻まれて画質が粗いという問題まで抱えていた癖アリ映像だったのですが。
そこに加えて80年代のヨーロッパテレビ放送にありがちな野暮ったいテロップ、極めつけは上から被せられた不釣り合いな歓声が随所で登場するのもいただけなかった。

こうした性質上、非常に貴重なプロショット映像でありながら、それでいて有難みの薄い存在でもあったミラノのテレビ放送なのですが、この秋YouTube上で未編集の元映像がひょっこりと流出して世界中のマニアを驚かせています。
そもそも35年前のテレビ放送の未編集ビデオ素材が現存していたということは大きな驚きでしかありません。
そこは流出映像ということで「Down By The River」で数回のカットが入ってしまう点が玉に瑕なのですし、それ以外は当時の放送でカットされていた曲もばっちり見られてしまう驚きのレア映像でもあるのです。
それに何と言ってもあの野暮ったいテロップ、さらには曲間だけでなく間奏などにも挿入されてしまった歓声の演出が一切なく、元の放送とは比べ物にならないほど充実した状態で87年ヨーロッパ・ツアーを再現してくれる超貴重プロショット映像が現れてくれたのでした。

元の映像はオープニング「Mr. Soul」の後半からの収録となっていましたので、今回のリリースに際して欠損部は当時の放送バージョンを補填。実に自然なつながりで演奏をフルに見られるのはもちろん、この一曲だけで放送時の不自然な演出と今回の映像を見比べられる状態となったのです。
さらにYouTube上に現れた際には若干ながら画面が縦に圧縮されており、なおかつ音がずれてしまう箇所も散見されました。どちらの問題に関しても今回のリリースに際してアジャスト。DVD-Rでのリリースではありますが、抜かりはありません。

そして袖をちぎったネルシャツでステージを闊歩した86年ツアーと違い、鉄道模型メーカーのオレンジシャツを着たニールの姿はこれぞ87年の姿。
映画「YEAR OF THE HORSE」で見られたように、メンバー間のもめごとも絶えなかったツアーとしても知られるところで、実際「Powderfinger」ではニールが構成を間違えてしまい、演奏中にもかかわらずベースのビリー・タルボットが彼に詰め寄る場面が捉えられているのがドキュメント性高め。
もっとも、そうしたネガティブ要素まで演奏のボルテージに昇格させてしまうところがニール・ヤング＆クレイジー・ホースらしいところで、当時の放送ではカットされてしまったラスト「Hey Hey, My My」におけるニールのハイテンションぶりは圧巻。
そんな一番イイ演奏が初めて見られるようになったのはもちろん、レアな演奏として話題となった「See The Sky About To Rain」の場面も余計な演出なしでばっちり見られる。そもそも画質自体がテレビ放送よりずっと良い。まさか今になってこんな貴重すぎるニール87年のプロショット映像が現れるだなんて！
