The performance of “June 29, 1982: Nakano Sunplaza” is engraved in this work. It is the excellent audience recording. At that time, they had just joined Brian “Robo” Robertson (the first stage was May 21, 1982), and after 18 performances, they made their first landing in Japan. At our shop, Miracle Man’s masterpiece “FIRST BOMBER IN JAPAN (Calm & Storm 033)” reigns as a standard, but of course this work is a separate performance. First, let’s check the position of the show from the schedule at that time.

Above, all 5 performances. As the name suggests, “FIRST BOMBER IN JAPAN” was a live album on the first day, but this work was recorded three days later. It was the third performance in the middle of the show. Other records of the Hall and the Postal Savings Hall have been known every day, but the recordings of the Nakano Sunplaza performance have not been known so far. This work is a live album where you can experience such a valuable scene.
Moreover, the sound is also excellent. It has a slightly warm feel, and although it is an audience recording in terms of timbre, its core is powerful and beautiful. Despite being a band synonymous with roaring sound, there is no chattering or overpeaking, and there is no sense of sickness. Even though it doesn’t feel like a sound board, the mid-low range is dense and the power that you can’t think of as a trio is approaching. The opening “Iron Fist” makes it a little unstable, but apparently this is due to the on-site PA. At one point, the output becomes extremely weak and it makes me sick, but it recovers in less than 10 seconds and then stabilizes.
While being dynamically built up by the sound of the hall, the core forcibly pierces the center of the hall … It sounds like MOTORHEAD, but it is actually valuable worldwide. After all, the ferocity of MOTORHEAD is the best of its time. Many of the recordings at that time were violent and sound quality. Records captured so neatly are extremely rare. And it is the recording artist who is now talked about that realized such a neat sound. In terms of HR / HM, it is that master collection that shook collectors with WHITESNAKE’s first visit to Japan, Graham Bonnet era RAINBOW, and 1985 DEEP PURPLE.
More valuable than such a master sound is a full show full of classics dyed by Robo. Speaking of the Robo era, the formalized sound board of Manchester performance is the most famous. Let’s organize while comparing.

As mentioned above, my first visit to Japan was about a month after joining Robo, and Muddy Waters’ “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man” was the only new set. It is a collection of masterpieces of the golden age that seems to be “IRON FIST Tour”.
It was the first meeting with charisma for Japan, and it was a record immediately after joining Robo, which is valuable worldwide. そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1982年６月29日：中野サンプラザ」公演。その絶品オーディエンス録音です。当時の彼らはブライアン・“ロボ”・ロバートソンを加入させたばかり（初ステージは1982年５月21日でした）で、18公演をこなしたところで日本初上陸を果たしました。当店では、ミラクルマンの傑作『FIRST BOMBER IN JAPAN（Calm & Storm 033）』が定番として君臨しておりますが、もちろん本作は別公演。まずは、当時のスケジュールからショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

以上、全５公演。『FIRST BOMBER IN JAPAN』はその名の通り初日のライヴアルバムでしたが、本作が記録されたのはその３日後。ド真ん中の３公演目でした。他にも毎日ホールや郵便貯金会館の記録は知られてきましたが、中野サンプラザ公演はこれまで録音が知られてこなかった。本作は、そんな貴重な現場を体験できるライヴアルバムなのです。
しかも、そのサウンドも絶品。ややウォームな感触があり、音色的にもオーディエンス録音ではありますが、その芯は力強くも美しい。轟音の代名詞バンドにも関わらずビビリもオーバーピークもまったく起こさず、かと言ってスカスカ感も皆無。サウンドボードと間違えるようなド密着感ではないのに、中低音が密度たっぷりでトリオとは思えないほどのパワーがグイグイと迫ってくるのです。オープニング「Iron Fist」でやや不安定になるのですが、どうやらこれは現場ＰＡが原因。一時は出力が極端に弱くなってヒヤヒヤしますが、それも10秒も経たずに回復して以後はビシッと安定します。
ホール鳴りによってダイナミックにビルドアップされつつ、そのド真ん中を芯が強引に貫いてくる……なんともMOTORHEADらしいサウンドなのですが、実は世界的には貴重でもある。何しろ、MOTORHEADの凶暴さは当代随一。当時の録音は暴れ音質なものが多かった。ここまで端正に捉えた記録は極めて希なのです。そして、そんな端正サウンドを実現したのは、今話題の録音家。HR/HM系で言いますと、WHITESNAKEの初来日やグラハム・ボネット時代RAINBOW、1985年DEEP PURPLEなどでコレクターを震撼させたあの達人コレクションなのです。
そんな達人サウンド以上に貴重なのが、ロボが染め変えたクラシックスたっぷりのフルショウ。ロボ時代と言えば、公式化もされたマンチェスター公演のサウンドボードが一番有名。比較しながら整理してみましょう。
