The 18th Voodoo Down Records is a performance in Paris, which was the second visit following July 1973. Near the end of 1973, the guitar Pete Cosey began to take root, and the guitar solo was also featured. Inspired by Pete Cosey’s swelling guitar, this performance, which is famous for its hot performances, has several types of sound board sound sources. However, unfortunately, some of the sound sources were missing, some announcements were made, sound quality was difficult, and there were some problems, so it was not possible to follow the entire concert with just one of them. Meanwhile, in 2020, the complete version was patched and made by overseas collectors. It is the sound source that is used as the master here. However, of course, it is not the sum that is used as it is, but the remastering that is daunting, such as pulling off the patched sound source once, separating it, applying optimal equalizing and noise reduction separately, and rejoining it. Work is being done. As a result, the difference in sound quality between each sound source has become closer, and the joints have become even less noticeable. In addition, some French announcements were carefully re-edited and removed. It is an item that “for the first time, you can enjoy only band performances over almost all performances”. However, it is not a shiny sound board sound source, and in particular, Source C, which makes up most of “TURNAROUNDPHRASE”, is not sound quality for beginners. However, it is definitely the definitive edition of the sound source of the day, and I would appreciate it if you could add it to the new collection.
The first press version comes with a bonus disc with a limited numbered card. The content is a video of the concert, which is a recording of a French television broadcast. Although it is not a full set and there are some parts that are covered by announcements, the sound quality of the main CD is superior, but it is a great bonus that you can enjoy valuable performance scenes with reasonable quality even though it is a black and white image.

Under the complete supervision of the “So What” label, “Voodoo Down Records (hereafter VDD)” was launched at the end of 2020. The depth of trust can be seen from the fact that it was allowed to list the label name of “SO WHAT!” For the first time. Careful mastering, editing, discerning artwork with obi, and a beautiful picture disc press board. Although it is a new label, it is already attracting attention as a must-have item for Miles collectors.

ヴードゥー・ダウン・レコーズ第18弾は1973年7月に続き二度目の訪問となったパリ公演です。1973年も終わりに近づき、ギターのピート・コージーも定着し始めギター・ソロも大きくフィーチャーされています。そんなピート・コージーのゴニョゴニョとうねるギターに触発されてか、熱い演奏でも有名な本公演は数種類のサウンドボード音源が残っています。しかし残念ながらどの音源もどこかが欠けていたりアナウンスが被っていたり、音質に難ありだったり何らかの問題を抱えており、到底どれかひとつでコンサート全てをフォロー出来るものではありませんでした。そんな中2020年に登場したのが、海外コレクターによりつぎはぎされ作られた完全版。ここでマスターとして使用されているのもその音源です。が、もちろんそのまま使用している和ではなく、つぎはぎされた音源を一旦引き剝がしてバラし、別々に最適なイコライジングやノイズ・リダクションを施し再度継ぎ合わせるといった気の遠くなるようなリマスタリング作業が行われてます。これにより各音源間の音質の差は近づき、つなぎ目も一層目立たなくなりました。更に、一部フランス語のアナウンスが残っていた個所は丁寧に再編集し除去。“初めてバンド演奏のみを、ほぼ全公演にわたり楽しめる”アイテムとなっています。とは言えピカピカのサウンドボード音源と言うわけではなく、とくに『TURNAROUNDPHRASE』のほとんどを構成しているソースCは初心者向けの音質ではありません。しかしながらこの日の音源の決定版であることは間違いなく、新たなコレクションに加えて頂ければ幸いです。
初回プレス版には限定ナンバー入りカードの付いたボーナス・ディスクが付属します。内容は同コンサートの映像で、フランスのテレビ放送を録画したもの。フル・セットではない上アナウンスが被る個所もあり音質も本編のCDの方が勝りますが、白黒映像ながらまずまずのクオリティで貴重な演奏シーンを楽しめる絶好のボーナスです。
