The legendary label “So What”, which received tremendous trust from Miles Davis lovers and produced numerous masterpieces. Under the complete supervision of the “So What” label, “Voodoo Down Records (hereafter VDD)” was launched at the end of 2020. The fact that we were allowed to list the label name of “SO WHAT!” For the first time shows the depth of trust. Careful mastering, editing, discerning artwork with obi, and a beautiful picture disc press board. Although it is a new label, it is already attracting attention as a must-have item for Miles collectors.
This time it will be the 1971 Zurich performance. Speaking of 1971, the drummer changed from Jack DeJohnette to Ndugu Chancler, familiar with Keith Jarrett’s organ + electric piano dual wield, and many items have been released. The valuable part of this Zurich performance is that both the first concert and the second concert are broadcast on the radio and there is a sound board sound source. This time, they will be coupled and will be released as a three-disc set. Although it is not the first appearance, it is a good content that even beginners of collector’s items can enjoy high-quality sound recording with confidence, in addition to the material value that is complete for one day.
Of course, the original Broadcast Master has edited the “Voodoo Down” label to the highest quality ever. This original sound source has good left-right separation and clear sound, which is wonderful, but its weak point is that it has a slightly lighter tone and is not powerful. In this remastering, Keith on the left is left as it is, and the chunker that was placed on one side of the right channel is placed in the center, so the core is firmly fixed and the power is greatly increased. In the first place, Chunkler’s funky drums are the biggest listening point of the Miles band in 1971. Also, at the second concert, the part covered by the radio DJ’s talk has been re-edited and the cuts have been reduced as much as possible from the existing titles, but they have been reconnected more naturally. There was a title that supplemented the final stage of the missing “FUNKY TONK” with an audience source, but this time it was not supplemented but faded out, and it became a complete version with “sound board sound source only”. is. By the way, the second concert “What I Say” is a must-listen, a masterpiece of angry waves that goes slowly and slowly at a slow tempo even after Miles plays the phrase of the song change, and then the tempo rises at once. ..
As a first-time limited benefit, a DVDR containing professional shot footage of the simultaneous Berlin performance will be included. It was broadcast overseas in the 2000s. You can see it with the 16: 9 size setting without resizing on the monitor. There is no menu screen, but chapters are added at the beginning of the song so that you can select a track.

今回登場するのは1971年のチューリッヒ公演。1971年と言えばドラマーがジャック・デジョネットからレオン・チャンクラーに変わり、キース・ジャレットのオルガン＋エレピの二刀流でお馴染み、多数のアイテムもリリースされています。このチューリッヒ公演の貴重なところは、ファースト・コンサートとセカンド・コンサート共にラジオ放送されておりサウンドボード音源が存在するというところ。今回はそれらをカップリングし三枚組で登場となります。初登場と言うわけではありませんが、丸っと一日分が揃った資料的価値に加え、コレクターズ・アイテム初心者の方でも安心して楽しめる高音質収録という好内容です。
もちろん、大元のブロード・キャスト・マスターから”ヴードゥー・ダウン”レーベル独自の編集が施され、過去最高クオリティとなっています。この元音源は左右分離が良く音もクリアで素晴らしいのですが、弱点はやや軽めの音色で迫力が無い点。今回のリマスタリングでは、左のキースはそのままに右チャンネル片方に置かれていたチャンクラーをセンターに据えたことにより、芯がどっしりと定まり迫力が大幅に増しています。そもそもチャンクラーのファンキーなドラムこそ71年マイルス・バンドの最大の聴きどころなのです。また、セカンド・コンサートではラジオＤＪのトークが被っている個所を再編集し極力既発タイトルよりカットを減らしながらも一段と自然に繋ぎ直されています。欠落していた『FUNKY TONK』の終盤をオーディエンス・ソースで補っていたタイトルもありましたが、今回はあえて補填はせずフェード・アウトとし、“サウンドボード音源のみ”での完全版となったのです。ちなみにセカンド・コンサートの『ホワット・アイ・セイ』は、マイルスが曲チェンジのフレーズを吹いてからも珍しくスロー・テンポのままじっくり摺り足で進み、そこから一気にテンポ・アップする怒涛の名演、必聴です。
初回限定特典として同時のベルリン公演のプロ・ショット映像を収めたDVDRが付きます。2000年代に海外で放送されたもの。モニターでリサイズせずに16：9サイズ設定のまま見れるようになっています。メニュー画面はありませんが、トラックを選べるように曲頭にチャプターは打ってあります。
