In the late 1970s, when home video decks began to spread, live videos were actively released in the United States to promote sales.
James Taylor also rode that wave in 1979 and filmed the stage for a live video, which was released as VHS “JAMES TAYLOR IN CONCERT” at the time, and was later made into a laser disc.
Therefore, it was one of the standard live videos in his career, but at the time, the domestic release had not been realized, so I think it was one of the videos that we overlooked. In addition, another live video called “IN CONCERT” was released in 1991, which was a bit confusing.
Above all, this work, which was JT’s standard live video in the 70’s, was not realized until it was released on DVD, and now it has become a presence that cannot be seen easily.

However, this month, the full version of this live video was suddenly released for a limited time on JT’s official account.
Until then, several songs had been uploaded on YouTube by volunteers, but it was groundbreaking that the entire live video was released with the help of JT.
Such a long-awaited classic live video of maniacs all over the world was released for a limited time, so it was not possible to see it again, but it was released immediately.
Not only is it a professional shot video image, but the audio is of course a stereo sound board. In addition, HD uploads and 4K remasters are currently popular, but the natural resolution of VHS that we were familiar with at that time was about this level, and rather the natural video quality is also good.

And since the stage for the live video recording was the Blossom Music Center, JT sang “Blossom” alone for the first song.
After that, the rhythm team such as Russ Kunkel and Lee Sklar, the guitar team of Danny Kortchmar and Waddy Wachtel, and the masters of David Sanborn gradually joined in a gorgeous stage.
The sound is the one that made use of the AOR route that was in the latest album “FLAG” at that time as it is on the stage, and for example, classic songs of the past like “Carolina In My Mind” are also played with a mellow band arrangement. This is the place that seems to be this time of year.
Although his forehead has started to widen considerably, JT still has a mustache and is dandy, while Kortchmar is a little overweight.
And until the middle stage, the performance was relaxed with an AOR sound, but from “Mexico” it became a more upbeat performance that seems to be the end of the live. And even uttering words that are banned from broadcasting (absolutely on purpose, lol).

家庭用ビデオ・デッキが普及し始めた1970年代後半になると、その販売促進を兼ねてアメリカではライブビデオが積極的にリリースされたのでした。
ジェイムス・テイラーもその波に乗って1979年にライブビデオ用のステージを撮影、それが当時VHS『JAMES TAYLOR IN CONCERT』としてリリースされ、後にはレーザーディスク化も実現。
よって彼のキャリアの中では定番ライブ映像の一つだったのですが、当時は国内盤のリリースが実現していないので我々にとっては見過ごされた映像の一つだったのではないでしょうか。おまけに1991年になって別の『IN CONCERT』というライブビデオがリリースされており、ちょっと紛らわしい感もありました。
何より70年代JTの定番ライブ映像であった本作もDVD化までは実現しておらず、今となっては簡単にお目にかかれない存在となってしまったのです。

ところが今月、突如としてJTのオフィシャルアカウントにて本ライブ映像が期間限定にてフルバージョンが公開されました。
それまでもYouTube上には数曲が有志によってアップされていましたが、ライブビデオ全体がJTの肝いりで公開されたのは画期的。
そんな世界中のマニア待望の定番ライブ映像も期間限定公開ということで再び見られなくなってしまいましたが、そこをすかさずリリース。
プロショットのビデオ映像というだけでなく、音声も当然ステレオ・サウンドボード。それに現在は何かとHDアップロードや4Kリマスターなどが流行っていますが、当時我々が親しんできたVHSの自然な解像度といえばこれくらいのレベルであって、むしろナチュラルなビデオ画質にも好感が持てる。

そしてライブビデオ収録の舞台となったのがブロッサム・ミュージック・センターだったことから、JTは一曲目に「Blossom」を一人で歌うという粋な計らい。
以降はラス・カンケル、リー・スクラーといったリズム隊、さらにダニー・コーチマーにワディ・ワクテルというギター・チーム、そしてデヴィッド・サンボーンといった名手たちが徐々に加わるゴージャスなステージ。
そのサウンドは当時の最新アルバム『FLAG』にあったAOR路線をそのままステージに活かしたものとなっており、例えば「Carolina In My Mind」のような往年の名曲もメロウなバンドアレンジで演奏されているのがこの時期らしいところ。
かなり額が広がり始めたものの、それでも口ひげを蓄えてダンディなJT、一方でちょっと太り気味のコーチマーなど、この時期ならではのルックスも今となっては懐かしい限りかと。
そして中盤まではAORなサウンドでゆったりとした演奏でしたが、「Mexico」からはライブ終盤らしいアゲアゲな演奏となり、果ては「Summertime Blues」のカバーになるとJTはギターを弾かずロックなシンガーへと豹変し、さらには放送禁止用語まで発してしまう（絶対わざとですね笑）ほど。
まだまだ若々しかった時期のJTを捉えた最高のライブ映像、期間限定公開を見逃してしまった方も本タイトルにてじっくりとお楽しみください。
