The reunion tour “THE LAST DOMINO? Tour” has finally begun its final steps. The latest and finest live album is here.
It is “March 7, 2022 Berlin performance” that is imbued with such a work. It is the transcendental audience recording. Last year it was the “THE LAST DOMINO? Tour” that went around North America, but this year we are returning to Europe. Including last year’s transfer performance, we are doing the show to mark the final countdown.  これが2021年/2022年のGENESIS。今年は3月のみの全14公演が予定されており、本稿が公開される頃には6公演まで終了している見込み。再結成GENESISはツアー延長の可能性はないと示唆していますので、いかに終焉が間近に迫っているかがご理解頂けるでしょう。その中で本作のベルリン公演はイの一番となる「欧州」レッグ初日でもありました。
 そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、まさに「超」付きの極上オーディエンス。とにかく極太でゼロ距離、そしてリッチ。ぶっとい芯と細やかなディテールは「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行く凄まじさで、大気の存在をまるで感じさせない。その一方で鳴りには色気と艶がたっぷりと含まれており、しっかりとした厚みも手応えも素晴らしく、重低音のヴァイヴまで極めて美しい。さらに感動的なのが観客の息吹。間近な話し声や絶叫はまるでないのですが、各曲のイントロなどで沸き上がる手拍子の海はうっすらとしていながら極めて広い。サウンドボード的な聴きやすさとオーディエンスならではのダイナミズムが融合した名録音なのです。
 それだけの名作になったのにも理由がある。何しろ、本作を公開したのは現代の名手と謳われる「W.」氏。もちろん「現代の名手」も数多くいるわけですが、この人物はジェネラル系ドイツ録音で名の知られたテーパー。ポール・マッカートニーのプレス名盤『ONE ON ONE IN BERLIN』等、さまざまなバンド/アーティストを手掛けています。このところ作品数が減っていたようにも思いますが、本作は新型コロナ禍を超えて名手健在!の便りともなる新名盤なのです。
