Under the title of “Eric Clapton & Friends Band Du Lac”, the master broadcasted for 1 hour and 45 minutes on a certain Japanese satellite broadcast is recorded in super high quality. 2005年6月11日、イギリス・ロンドン郊外のサリー州ウィンターシャルで開催されたチャリティ・コンサートにエリック・クラプトンが“Band　du Lac”というバンドの客員メンバーとして出演した際のプロショット映像です。まずはコンサートの中身の前に、このコンサートがどのような意義で行なわれたものかをお伝えしておきましょう。このコンサートは別名「湖の辺でピクニック」と題されたコンサートで、地元の慈善団体、施設のための資金集めにイギリスの有名アーティスト達が一肌脱いだというものでした。発起人は、クラプトンと同じくサリー州の住人で、以降もバンド・デュ・ラック名義で活動を続けたプロコル・ハルムのリーダー、ゲイリー・ブルッカーでした。その他参加メンバーをご覧いただくと、クラプトンの大晦日コンサート「ニュー・イヤーズ・イヴ・ダンス」と共通するメンバーにジェネシスのマイク・ラザフォードを加えたハウスバンドでした。会場はウィンターシェル・エステートという「お城」で、来場客にはドレスコードがあり、男性はタキシードにブラックタイ着用、女性はドレス着用で、中世社会のお城の中庭での屋外パーティよろしく、開演前には食事やシャンパン・バーも用意されていました。まさに優雅な気分で最高のショーを楽しめるという趣向でした。そしてこんなオールスター・コンサートの内容は、クラプトンを始め、女性シンガー・ソングライター、ケイティ・メルアや、クイーンのロジャー・テイラー、言わずもがな元ビートルズのリンゴ・スター、ドリフターズ、イギリスのジャズ＆ブルース界の古参クリス・バーバーらがゲストとして出演した豪華なステージでした。彼らが入れ替わり立ち代わり持ち歌でメインボーカルを務め、演奏にも加わるという形で進行していきました。バラエティに富んだセットを鮮明画質で次々に観ていくだけで時間があっという間に過ぎるような魅力的なイベントです。クラプトンファンの方のみならず、ブリティッシュロックファンの方ならあの名曲がこんなメンバーによりこんな形で演奏されていることを大いにお楽しみいただけるでしょう。ビートルズファン、クイーンファンも注目の映像です。
