Among the three major recordings, this work stands out for its individuality. The two works, “HEADING FOR GLORY” and “FABULOUS SHOW”, are super-tight name recordings, and the ferocious direct feeling that does not make you feel the sound of the hall was like a sound board. On the other hand, this work is a gorgeous recording. It is an original recording excavated through our own route, but it is a type that absorbs the hall sound firmly, and the thickness and shine due to the sound, and the symphonic feeling that pours down on it is enhanced.
Moreover, this work is an upgraded version of such a historically famous recording. “GRAF ZEPPELIN” mastering has updated the highest peak of historical name recordings of various bands, but this time the latest transfer is carried out from the Omoto cassette. The sound is exactly “different class”, anyway crystal clear & dynamic. The clarity of the atmosphere is noticeably improved, and the clarity is much better. Originally, the hall sound was the type that gave the performance sound a luster, but that luster shines brilliantly. When you close your eyes, you can see Christmas illuminations brightly, beautifully, and clearly. Originally, it is a sound that feels “light” that should not exist in sound.
What’s more, it’s a perfect fit for EL&POWELL’s unique dynamism. In the first place, they were characterized by a gorgeous synth sound and a big scale feeling of Cozy than EL & P in the 70’s, but the dynamism is powerful enough to shake the venue, even the symphonic feeling that shines on the synth. The audience sound that raises the charm of EL & POWELL several times is emerging. [Realize the first complete version by making full use of the new excavation master] In addition to such a sound, this work has also been updated for the longest time. Although it was basically all songs of the show in the conventional version, there was a tape change recording omission at the end of “Pictures At An Exhibition” and the beginning of “Welcome Back”. In particular, the former was also a part that was frustrating because it was a highlight of the impression. Recently, however, another recording of the Madison Square Garden performance was discovered. A complete version that complements the missing part of the main source has been realized! What’s more, this new master is also of the highest quality (although it’s not as good as the main source of miracles, but it’s enough for normal standards). The complete version of the earnest wish became a reality.
The full show experience realized in this way is truly overwhelming. Finally, let’s organize the set while comparing it with the symbolic Lakeland performance sound board.

これが唯一無二の全米ツアーと最高峰のプレス名盤コレクション。サウンドボード『DEFINITIVE LAKELAND 1986』も大定番ではありますが、惜しむらくは不完全。ショウの完全形を体験するにはオーディエンス録音しかなく、尺も含めた最高峰レースでは『HEADING FOR GLORY（Virtuoso 091/092）』『FABULOUS SHOW（Virtuoso 073/074）』、それに本作のマディソン・スクエア・ガーデン公演が「３大名録音」とされています。
その３大録音の中でも本作は個性がズバ抜けている。『HEADING FOR GLORY』『FABULOUS SHOW』の２作は超タイト系の名録音で、ホール鳴りを感じさせない猛烈なダイレクト感がサウンドボード的でもありました。それに対し、本作はゴージャス系の名録音。当店の独自ルートで発掘されたオリジナル録音なのですが、ホール鳴りもしっかりと吸い込みつつ、その鳴りによって厚みと輝き、それに降り注ぐシンフォニック感が増強されるタイプなのです。
しかも、本作は、そんな歴史的名録音のアップグレード盤。様々なバンドの歴史的名録音の最高峰を更新させてきた「GRAF ZEPPELIN」マスタリングですが、今回は大元カセットから最新トランスファーを敢行。そのサウンドは、まさに「別物級」でして、とにかくクリスタル・クリア＆ダイナミック。大気の透明度はあからさまなほど向上し、ヌケも格段に良い。元々ホール鳴りが演奏音に艶を与えるタイプでしたが、その艶がキラッキラに輝いている。目を閉じるとクリスマスのイルミネーションが目に浮かぶほど明るく、美しく、克明。本来、音にはあるはずのない「光」を感じるサウンドなのです。

そんなサウンドに加え、本作は最長も更新している。従来盤でも基本的にはショウ全曲ではあったのですが、「Pictures At An Exhibition」の終盤と「Welcome Back」冒頭でテープチェンジの録音漏れがあった。特に前者は感動のハイライトだけに悔しさの滲むパートでもあったのです。ところが最近、マディション・スクエア・ガーデン公演の別録音が発掘。メイン・ソースの欠けパートを補完した完全版が実現したのです！ しかも、この新マスターも（奇跡のメイン・ソースには及ばないものの、普通基準なら十分に）極上級。悲願の完全版が現実のものとなったのです。

The main press 2CD is a full live album that can be said to be the masterpiece of the miraculous unit EL & POWELL. It is a supreme new masterpiece for both prog / hard rock. However, the more wonderful the live album is, the more I care about “the scenery on the other side”. Therefore, the video version of the same day is also decided to come with a special bonus.
That’s why this work was filmed at the same “September 20, 1986 Madison Square Garden” performance as the main press 2CD. It is the superb view audience shot. The video is extremely limited for EL & POWELL, which is valuable even for recording alone, and there are only this work and “DETROIT 1986” in the story. In the main commentary, we organized the collection of press CDs, so let’s compare the video work with the tour schedule here.

This is all 44 performances held by EL & POWELL. It was only one US tour, but if you look closely, it can be roughly divided into three sections with a one-week break in between. The big classic “DETROIT 1986” was a record of “North America # 3” in the final stage, but the MSG performance of this work was about a month before that. It was a concert that was the 9th performance of “North America # 2”.
This work, which allows you to witness such a show, is not just a “video of the same performance”. The quality is amazing as well. As a matter of fact, it is not a “full video” because “The Score” has a slight lack or shooting mistake, but besides that, the cut is about 95 minutes of “near full video”. Moreover, the master freshness is outstanding. No dubbing traces or aging deterioration can be seen, and if the details are vivid, the colors are vivid and beautiful. Its vividness is clearly derived from the master, not something that was forced up by digital mastering. As a matter of fact, it may be more beautiful than the tour No.1 video “DETROIT 1986” ….
“What’s even better is the voice.” Of course, it does not reach the main press 2CD, but it is sufficiently clear and thick. There is little immediate audience noise, and it is suitable to call it a name recording even with voice alone. In fact, there are some strange noises here and there, but they are all momentary, and the total is about 10 seconds. The remaining 99% can be immersed in a wonderful sound world. In fact, it is a name recording that was used to supplement the main press 2CD.
What is drawn with such quality is the “real scene” itself that spreads out on the other side of the main press 2CD. It is shot from the stand seat on the left side of the stage (Keith Emerson side), and only the stage spreads to the full field of view without any obstructions. Although it does not use as much zoom as the traditional video “DETROIT 1986”, it is perfectly possible to make contact with the gaze and pointing of the three people. The vividness of the ensemble, which is precisely intertwined with the contact, changes the expression in an instant. This is the real thrill that can only be understood through video.
Of course, Cozy’s drum solo, which is the biggest highlight, is also beautiful and powerful. A band ensemble with Keith and Greg, which is different from the WHITESNAKE version “Mars” backed by an orchestra tape, and an elaborate composition using even synth drums can be clearly witnessed. Above all, because of the oblique angle that overlooks the whole, you can overlook the large-scale light show in total, and the huge scale feeling surpasses even “DETROIT 1986”.
A video that allows you to take a peek at the “other side” of the famous press 2CD “MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1986″… It’s a video masterpiece that can’t be helped. A piece that can stare at a precious show with superb quality while having a different viewpoint from “DETROIT 1986”. というわけで、本作が撮影されたのは本編プレス２CDと同じ「1986年９月20日マディソン・スクエア・ガーデン」公演。その絶景オーディエンス・ショットです。録音だけでも貴重なEL&POWELLにとって映像は極めて限られており、ぶっちゃけた話が本作と『DETROIT 1986』しかありません。本編解説ではプレスCDのコレクション整理をしましたので、ここでは映像作をツアー日程に照らしてみましょう。

これがEL&POWELLが実施した全44公演。全米ツアー１本だけでしたが、細かく見ると１週間の休みを挟んで３セクションに大別できる。大定番の『DETROIT 1986』は終盤「北米#3」の記録でしたが、本作のMSG公演は、その約１ヶ月前。「北米#2」の９公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを目撃できる本作は、ただの「同公演映像」ではない。クオリティも凄まじく素晴らしいのです。実のところ、「The Score」にわずかながら欠けや撮影ミスがあるために「フル映像」ではないのですが、それ以外にカットは約95分に渡る「ニア・フル映像」。しかも、マスター鮮度がズバ抜けている。ダビング痕・経年劣化は微塵も見られず、ディテールまで鮮やかなら発色もビビッドで美しい。そのビビッドさは、デジタル・マスタリングでムリヤリ引き上げたものではなく、明らかにマスター由来。実のところ、ツアーNo.1映像の『DETROIT 1986』よりも美しいかも知れない……。
さらに素晴らしいのは音声。もちろん、本編プレス２CDには及びませんが、十二分にクリアで骨太。間近なオーディエンス・ノイズも少なく、音声だけでも名録音と呼ぶに相応しいのです。実のところ、ところどころ奇妙なノイズが入ったりもするのですが、それも瞬間的なものばかりで合計でも10秒あるかどうか。残り99％は素晴らしい音世界に浸りきれるのです。実際、本編プレス２CDの補完にも使用されたほどの名録音なのです。
それほどのクオリティで描かれるのは、本編プレス２CDの向こう側に広がっている“現実の光景”そのもの。ステージ左側（キース・エマーソン側）スタンド席から撮影されており、遮蔽物なしにステージだけが視界いっぱいに広がる。伝統映像『DETROIT 1986』ほどズームを多用してはおりませんが、その分３人の視線や指さしでコンタクトを取る姿までばっちり。そのコンタクトで精緻に絡み合うアンサンブルが一瞬にして表情を変える鮮やかさ……。これは映像でしか分からない醍醐味です。
もちろん、最大の見どころであるコージーのドラムソロも美しくド迫力。オーケストラ・テープをバックにしていたWHITESNAKE版「Mars」とは違うキースやグレッグとのバンド・アンサンブル、シンセドラムまで使った凝った構成もはっきり目撃できる。何より、全体を見渡せる斜めアングルのために大掛かりなライト・ショウもトータルで俯瞰でき、巨大なスケール感は『DETROIT 1986』さえも凌ぐのです。
