エリック・クラプトン、1991年のロイヤル・アルバート・ホール24夜連続公演から、第３のバンド・フォーマットとなった「ブルース・ナイト」３月１日の最終日をオリジナル・マスターから完全収録した３枚組です。以前、Uxbridgeレーベルよりリリースされていた、オリジナル音源使用のファン必聴盤。音質も優れており、ここまで優良な内容ならば、プレスCDで出し直してほしい！というリクエストの声も多い、音質・内容、最高グレードの逸品です。この音源がどれほど素晴らしいかを、多くのクラプトンファンに知っていただきたく、今回、史上初となる1991年 9ピースバンド全公演収録盤セットのボックスリリースを記念して、91年RAH24ナイツのピークポイントの一つであるブルース・ナイトの最終公演盤を豪華3枚組でギフト・リリース致します！この音源の登場以前にブルース・ナイト公演の音源は既発盤が存在しましたが、それらはすべて他日のものでした。この日の音源はUxbridge盤リリース前は未発表でした（ですので、プレス３CDでのリリースが望まれているのです！）。当時、独自のルートにより、この日の優良マスターを発掘、本タイトルにより、遂にこの日が日の目を見た上に、この優れた音質ゆえに、リリースと同時に決定版に躍り出ました。イギリスの録音者から直々に入手したこのマスターは、僅かに粗めの音質ながら、それがかえってワイルドな迫力を備えた、クリアで音圧のある良好バランスのステレオ・オーディエンス録音となっています。全編を通して録音時のトラブルはなく、ゲストのブルース・ジャイアンツを迎えた濃密なステージがたっぷり３枚に渡り収録されています。

「ブルース・ナイト」は、クラプトンが先輩ブルースマン、同胞アーティストを迎え、ブルースの魅力に気づいてもらおうという意図で開催したものでした。「ブルース伝道師」たるクラプトンは中心的役割を担いながら、立てるべき先輩をきちんとケアし、トータルのプレイ・クオリティを引き上げるという重責を見事に果たしています。ハウス・バンドは、74年のカムバック以降、クラプトンをサポートしたジェイミー・オールデイカーや93年にビル・ワイマンの後任として、ローリング・ストーンズ加入の候補にも挙がったジョーイ・スパンピナート、70年代にはマディ・ウォータースのバンドに在籍したジェリー・ポートノイ、オールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドのチャック・リベル、そしてファビュラス・サンダーバーズのジミー・ヴォーンなど、腕利きミュージシャンで固められていました。そしてここにクラプトンの大先輩にあたるブルースマンがゲストとして加わる形がとられました。オープニング～Wee Wee Babyまではハウス・バンドのみの演奏、Wee Wee Babyでは盟友ジミー・ヴォーンがボーカル・フィーチャーされています。TanquerayとJohnnie’s Boogieで、チャック・ベリーの盟友ピアニスト、故ジョニー・ジョンソンをフィーチャー、Travelin’ South～Black Cat Boneまでは故アルバート・コリンズを、I’ve Been Abused～Stranger Bluesまではロバート・クレイを、聴きごたえたっぷりのBlues Medleyではバディ・ガイをフィーチャーし、ラスト・ナンバーは出演者全員でのジャムとなっています。Blues Medley中でのクラプトンとバディ・ガイの速弾きによる「早口ギタートーク」風ジャムは聴きものです。また、Black Cat Boneの終了後に、クラプトンが勘違いしてアルバート・コリンズを「Robert Cray!」とコールし、次のゲストを「Buddy Guy!」と紹介してしまい、あわてて「Wrong! Robert Cray!(間違っちゃった！次がロバート・クレイです！)」と言い直す面白いシーンもあります。ここには、今日の「クロスロード・ギター・フェスティバル」の原点はこのショーにあったと言っても過言ではない、クラプトンがやりたくて仕方がなかった趣向が存分に展開されています。ゲストのフィーチャリング・ナンバーではクラプトンは控えめのバッキングに徹し、ここぞというソロのタイミングではキレ捲りの流麗なプレイを披露しています。最終日だけに、クラプトンと出演者の気合もさぞや入っていたと感じられる充実のステージです。故人となった御大ブルースマンの冴え渡るプレイにも耳を傾けていただき音源です。Travelin’ South は他日公演ではLeavin’ Town 、Lights Are On But Nobody’s Home はI Can See You Light On、I’ve Been AbusedはI Feel so Gladなどとクレジットされていますが、同じ曲です。クラプトン・ファン、ブルース・ファンならこの日ははずせないでしょう。プレス盤じゃないから・・・と購入のタイミングを逃してしまっていたファンには朗報の今回のギフト・リリース。改めての、2014年のプレス盤リリースを期待しながら、どうか、この音源の素晴らしさをこの機会にご堪能下さい！
