1985 ECHO & THE BUNNY MEN was in the middle of the heyday with consecutive hits of “PORCUPINE” and “OCEAN RAIN”. Introducing a soundboard album where you can experience the stage.
What is recorded in this work is “April 25, 1985 Gothenburg performance”. That stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of 1985, the year after the release of “OCEAN RAIN”. This is ECHO & THE BUNNY MEN in 1984/1985. It was in 1984 that the two performances in Japan were realized. The so-called “OCEAN RAIN Tour” ended there, but in 1985, when the year changed, sporadic mini tours were also organized. The Gothenburg performance of this work was the fourth performance of “Europe # 2”.
This work recorded at such a show is a clear and vivid FM sound board. In modern times where the standards are strict, the lines may be a little thin to advertise “Official grade!”, But if it is the standard at that time, it can be said enough. Above all, the edge of the performance sound that stands out in the clear and clear is sharp, and each sound is separated sharply. It is based on the air check at that time, but there is almost no cloudiness or distortion due to dubbing, probably because the master freshness is young. It’s a brilliant sound board with brilliant treble that stretches straight.

…… And it looks like this. Actually, this tour consists of 2 sets, and in the first half set, only 10 songs are played on the cover. In the latter half of the set, we had a regular concert mainly based on the original. Since this work is an FM broadcast, it is re-edited by mixing from both sets. Covers were placed on the first song and the last two songs of the program, and 10 original songs were broadcast in the meantime. “Gods Will Be Gods” and “The Back of Love” are also valuable, but the point is still the cover. The first song was Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour” and the last two songs were Doors’ “Soul Kitchen” and Stones’ “Paint It Black”. The Doors and Stones aren’t perfect because they’re anomalous styles that sandwich interviews with members, but most of them are still enjoyable on the soundboard.
It is a sound board album that you can enjoy the irregular tour with clear sound because it is the heyday. It’s a pity that it’s not a full show, but it’s a broadcast, so it can’t be helped. That said, it’s too wasteful to miss it. New excavation of such FM master. Please enjoy it carefully.

『PORCUPINE』『OCEAN RAIN』の連続ヒットで全盛期の真っ直中にいた1985年のECHO & THE BUNNYMEN。そのステージを体験できるサウンドボード・アルバムが登場です。
そんな本作に記録されているのは「1985年４月25日ヨーテボリ公演」。そのステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。1985年と言えば、『OCEAN RAIN』リリースの翌年。当時は来日公演も実現するなど、私たちにも思い出深い時期でした。まずは、その概要を俯瞰しつつ、ショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが1984年／1985年のECHO & THE BUNNYMEN。二度の来日公演が実現したのは1984年のこと。いわゆる“OCEAN RAIN Tour”はそこで終了したのですが、年の改まった1985年も散発的なミニ・ツアーも組まれた。本作のヨーテボリ公演は、そんな「欧州#2」の４公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録されたの本作は、クリア＆ビビッドなFMサウンドボード。基準の厳しい現代ですと「オフィシャル級！」と喧伝するにはやや線が細かったりもするのですが、当時基準であれば十分に言える。何よりも透き通ったクリアさに浮き立つ演奏音のエッジが鋭く、１音１音がキリッとセパレートしている。当時のエアチェックを元にしているのですが、マスター鮮度が若いのかダビングによる曇りや歪みもほとんど見られない。キラキラと輝くような高音が真っ直ぐに伸びる輝きのサウンドボードなのです。
そのビリリアント・サウンドで描かれるのは、ツアー本編だった1984年とも趣の違うショウ。“OCEAN RAIN Tour”と言えば、当店では『NEW YORK 1984（Uxbridge 1591）』も記憶に新しいところ。ここで比較しながらセットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。実は、このツアーでは２セット構成になっており、前半セットではカバーばかり10曲を演奏。後半セットでオリジナル主体の通常コンサートを行っていました。本作はFM放送ですので、両セットから混合で再編集。番組の冒頭１曲と最後２曲にカバーを配し、その間に10曲のオリジナル10曲分が放送されました。「Gods Will Be Gods」「The Back of Love」といった辺りも貴重ではありますが、やはりポイントなのはカバー。冒頭１曲はウィルソン・ピケットの「In The Midnight Hour」で、最後の２曲はドアーズの「Soul Kitchen」とストーンズの「Paint It Black」でした。ドアーズとストーンズはメンバーへのインタビューを挟み込む変則スタイルなので完全形ではないのですが、それでも大部分はしっかりとサウンドボードで楽しめます。
全盛時代だからこその変則ツアーをクリア・サウンドで味わえるサウンドボード・アルバムです。返す返すもフルショウでないのが残念ですが、放送なのですから仕方ない。だからと言って聞き逃すのはもったいなさ過ぎる。そんなFMマスターの新発掘。どうぞ、じっくりとご堪能ください。
