30 years ago, the super unit COVERDALE-PAGE made the dreams of British rock fans a reality. A name recording that conveys that too precious live performance will be reprinted and released as a renewal artwork.
Engraved on this work is the “December 15, 1993: Nippon Budokan” performance. It is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packed the whole story. As anyone who has read this article knows, COVERDALE-PAGE’s live performance was only held in Japan. Of course, at our shop, we have archived as many masterpieces as possible from valuable stages all over the world. First, check out the collection along with the historic tour schedule.

That’s all for 7 performances at 4 venues. Nippon Budokan is a symbolic venue where both Coverdale and Paige have performed the most live performances in Japan. This work was not only the second day, but also the second day concert of COVERDALE-PAGE itself.
This vacuum-packed version of such a show is a famous recording that caused a sensation several years ago. The live itself was 30 years ago, but this recording suddenly appeared in 2016 instead of being known from that time. It is the 1st Gene Master announced by the prestigious excavation “krw_co”. Of course, if it’s just a new excavation, it won’t be a sensation. The shock was the sound quality, it was a furiously clear name recording.
In fact, the sound is vivid. The dense on-core density extends straight like a laser beam, and the sharp contours and details are clear to the smallest details. Furthermore, because it is the 1st generation, there is almost no hiss, and the depth of the silent part creates a wonderful separate feeling. Although it is not mistaken for a sound board in terms of timbre, each element is high spec like line recording.
And its brilliance continues to be vivid even now. Actually, remastering was also tried at the time of this release, but there was no room for upgrade. Of course, I could have re-released it with a different version that only slightly changed the nuances, but if it wasn’t an improvement, I would only be self-satisfied. In that case, it was decided to permanently preserve the truth of the master again (the basic processing applied at the time of its first appearance, such as pitch correction and removal of fine noise, is utilized).
The legendary Budokan night is depicted with that clear and beautiful sound. The ZEP songs dyed with deep voice, the white snake number spelled out by Paige in return, and the original songs that fuse the essence of both are wonderful. Let’s organize that legendary set here.

… and it looks like this. The tour itself was only 7 performances, so it was basically the same set. And the performance is really fresh. As expected, it is not enough to have plenty of room only for the second performance, but that does not mean that I am nervous and stiff. Rather, they are excited about the stage that has finally been realized, especially Cavadair, who is having a lot of fun with Japanese MCs. The high tension that seems to be fun is also shown in the performance of the song, and the forward feeling is comfortable.
For both men who boast glorious careers, COVERDALE-PAGE was by no means a hugely successful project. On the other hand, they still talk about those days with pride. Even though a large-scale world tour was not realized, why is it a good memory? It is “musical
It was fun,” was the pure reason. At that time, Nippon Budokan was a strange tension witnessing the sight of the two legendary people acting as a sound, but in fact both men on the stage were the same. This work is a live album where you can feel the joy and fun of it. A press 2CD that permanently preserves the clear sound of the 1st Gene that surprised collectors around the world. 今を去ること30年前、英国ロック・ファンの夢を現実のものにしたスーパー・ユニットCOVERDALE-PAGE。その貴重すぎる生演奏を伝える名録音がリニューアル・アートワークで復刻リリース決定です。
そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1993年12月15日：日本武道館」公演。その一部始終を真空パックした極上オーディエンス録音です。本稿に目を留められた方ならご存知と思いますが、COVERDALE-PAGEのライヴが実現したのは日本のみ。もちろん、当店では全世界的に貴重なステージを可能な限りの名作群でアーカイヴしてきました。まずは、歴史的なツアースケジュールと併せてコレクションをチェックしてみましょう。

以上、全４会場の７公演。日本武道館はカヴァデール／ペイジ両雄にとって日本で一番多くのライヴを行ってきた象徴の会場。本作はその２日目と言うだけでなく、COVERDALE-PAGE自体の２日目コンサートでもありました。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、数年前にセンセーションを巻き起こした名録音。ライヴ自体は30年前になるわけですが、この録音は当時から知られていたのではなく2016年になって突如として登場。発掘の名門「krw_co」によって公表された1stジェネ・マスターなのです。もちろん、単に新発掘なだけならセンセーションにはならない。衝撃だったのはサウンド・クオリティでして、猛烈にクリアな名録音だったのです。
実際、そのサウンドは鮮烈。密度の高いオンな芯の密度はレーザー光線のように真っ直ぐ伸び、くっきりとした輪郭とディテールも微細部まで鮮明。さらに1stジェネだからこそヒスもほとんどなく、無音部の深みが見事なセパレート感まで演出してくれる。音色的にサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、要素の１つひとつはライン録音ばりにハイスペックなのです。
そして、その輝きは今なお鮮烈であり続けている。実は今回リリースに際してリマスターも試されたのですが、アップグレードの余地がなかった。もちろん、微妙にニュアンスを変えただけの別バージョンで再リリースする事もできたのですが、向上でないなら自己満足にしかならない。それならば、再びマスターの真実をそのまま永久保存することになったのです（ピッチ補正や微細ノイズの削除など、初登場時に施された基礎処理は活かされています）。
そのクリアな美音で画かれるのは、今や伝説として語られる武道館ナイト。ディープ・ヴォイスで染め変えられたZEP曲、返礼のようにペイジが綴る白蛇ナンバー、そして両者のエッセンスが融合したオリジナル曲の数々が素晴らしい。ここでその伝説セットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。ツアー自体がわずか７公演ということもあり、基本的に同一セットでした。そして、その演奏ぶりは実に瑞々しい。さすがに２公演目だけに余裕たっぷりとはいかないわけですが、だからと言って緊張でガチガチというわけでもない。むしろ、遂に実現したステージに発奮しており、特にカヴァデールは日本語MCも連発してはしゃぎまくっている。その楽しそうなハイテンションは楽曲の演奏にも現れており、前のめりなノリが心地良いのです。
栄光のキャリアを誇る両雄にとっては、決して大成功を収めたプロジェクトでもなかったCOVERDALE-PAGE。その一方で、今でも２人は当時を誇らしく語ってもいます。大規模なワールドツアーも実現しなかったのに、なぜ良い想い出なのか。それは「音楽的に
楽しかった」という純粋な理由だったのではないでしょうか。当時の日本武道館は伝説の２人が音を兼ねる光景を目の当たりにして異様なテンションでしたが、実はステージ上の両雄も同じだった。本作は、その喜びと楽しさを肌感覚で味わえるライヴアルバムなのです。世界中のコレクターを驚かせた1stジェネのクリア・サウンドを永久保存したプレス２CD。ここに堂々の復刻です。

A COVERDALE-PAGE live that was realized only in Japan in the whole world. The main press 2CD is a cultural heritage album that permanently preserves the full show at the symbolic venue “Nippon Budokan”. For the reprint release, we have prepared a video work that allows you to witness the “dream scene”.
This work contains three concerts, sound checks, and rehearsals. The video of COVERDALE-PAGE is valuable, but among them, you can enjoy the 8mm video collection by the people involved for about 2 hours. Let’s take a closer look at each.

Unknown date: STUDIO REHEARSALS
The first to appear are two studio rehearsal songs with an unknown date and time. “Wanton Song / Feeling Hot” ends quickly with an instrumental, but the delicious point is “In My Time Of Dying”. This is a full performance including Coverdale. It’s amazing just to say that Coverdale sings a ZEP song in the studio, but you can see the two men playing facing each other with the score (lyrics?) In between the shots of the officials … It’s a luxurious sight.

● December 15: Nippon Budokan (second day)
Next is the second day of Nippon Budokan, the same as the main press 2CD. It is the sound check and live 5 songs. The live spectacle that spreads beyond the main press 2CD is also wonderful, but the valuable thing is still the sound check. It was taken by the staff from the audience seats, and Paige stood on the stage and checked it with the jam and “The Ocean / Wanton Song / Feeling Hot” medley. You can hear the singing voice in “Feeling Hot”, but the focus is on Paige. You can clearly see the stage set, which was difficult to understand in the live shot, and you can also clearly see the mechanism that the huge light tower shines brightly.

● December 21: Osaka-jo Hall (second day)
The third video is the second day in Osaka at the end of the tour. Here are the 7 songs from the live performance, which were taken by the parties from the side of Denny Carmassi’s drum kit (this is the same for the Nippon Budokan above). Because it is a perspective like a so-called pro shot drum angle, the two main characters are from behind, but the distance is extremely close. To be honest, it is an image that is not suitable for remembering live performances, but conversely, you can feel like you are a member of the project. In fact, the staff at that time would have been excited just by being on the scene with the two legendary people, and that’s why they wanted to leave behind their backs. It is a scene that sympathizes with the feelings of the photographer, such as zooming in the scene where the shoulders are pressed together.

● December 22: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium (last day of the tour)
The final performance will be the Nagoya performance on the final day. Sound check of “Whole Lotta Love” and 6 live songs are recorded. Unlike Nippon Budokan, the sound check was filmed from the stage, and there is also a feeling that it is only the last day. But the singer singing here is Coverdale??
And the live shots were taken with a fixed camera set up at the venue. Although it is a little distant view, it captures the stage from the front with a full view, and unlike Nippon Budokan and Osaka Castle, you can see the state of the show well. Also, the live shots so far were picking up each part of the show, but this Nagoya seamlessly shot the beginning of the show from the opening at “Absolution Blues”. You can enjoy the last night of the legendary project that has been spent several years.

These are the 4 types of treasured footage of 1 hour and 58 minutes. Even though it is a rare shot of concerned parties, it is even more so if the main character is COVERDALE-PAGE. It is one that approaches the back side of the gorgeous big game coalescence project that you are interested in. The true face of COVERDALE-PAGE, which is different from PV and audience shots of on-site concerts. And a masterpiece video collection that even the joy of the staff blurs. 全世界でも日本でのみ実現した、COVERDALE-PAGEのライヴ。本編プレス２CDは象徴会場「日本武道館」でのフルショウを永久保存した文化遺産アルバムです。その復刻リリースには「夢の光景」を目撃できる映像作をご用意しました。
そんな本作に収められているのは、３つのコンサートとサウンドチェック、それにリハーサルの模様。COVERDALE-PAGEの映像というだけで貴重ですが、その中でも関係者による８ミリビデオ撮影コレクションが約２時間に渡って楽しめるのです。それぞれ詳しく見ていきましょう。

●日付不明：STUDIO REHEARSALS
まず登場するのは、日時不明のスタジオ・リハーサル２曲。「Wanton Song / Feeling Hot」はインストでさらっとすぐに終わりますが、美味しいポイントは「In My Time Of Dying」。こちらはカヴァデールを含めたフル演奏。カヴァデールがZEPソングを歌うスタジオ・テイクというだけでも凄いのですが、楽譜（歌詞？）を挟んで両雄が向き合って演奏する姿を関係者ショットで観られる……なんとも贅沢な光景です。

●12月15日：日本武道館（２日目）
続くは、本編プレス２CDと同じ日本武道館２日目。そのサウンドチェックとライヴ５曲です。本編プレス２CDの向こう側に広がるライヴ光景も素晴らしいですが、貴重なのはやはりサウンドチェック。観客席からスタッフが撮影したもので、ペイジがステージに立ち、ジャムと「The Ocean / Wanton Song / Feeling Hot」メドレーで確認していく。「Feeling Hot」では歌声も聞こえますが、視点はペイジに集中。ライヴ・ショットでは分かりづらかったステージセットもハッキリと見え、巨大なライト塔が目映く光る仕掛けもばっちり分かります。

●12月21日：大阪城ホール（２日目）
３つ目の映像は、ツアー終盤の大阪２日目。こちらは本番ライヴ７曲で、関係者がデニー・カーマッシのドラムキット脇から関係者が撮影したものです（これは上記の日本武道館も同じです）。いわゆるプロショットのドラム・アングルのような視点なので、主役の２人は後ろ姿ではありますが、距離は激近です。正直なところ、ライヴを思い出すには不向きな映像なのですが、逆に言えばプロジェクトの一員になった気分に浸れる。実際、当時のスタッフも伝説の２人と現場に居合わせているだけで興奮したでしょうし、だからこそ後ろ姿でも残しておきたかったのでしょう。肩を寄せ合うシーンでズームにするなど、撮影者の気持ちに共感してしまう光景なのです。

●12月22日：愛知県体育館（ツアー最終日）
最後に登場するのは、最終日の名古屋公演。「Whole Lotta Love」のサウンドチェックと本番ライヴ６曲が収録されています。サウンドチェックは日本武道館と違ってステージ上から撮影されており、最終日だけあって手慣れた感もあります。しかし、ここで歌っているシンガーはカヴァデール??
そして、ライヴは会場設営の固定カメラによるショット。やや遠景ではありますが、ステージを真っ正面から全景で捉えており、日本武道館や大阪城とは違ってショウの様子がよく分かります。また、ここまでのライヴ・ショットはショウの各パートをつまみ食いしたものでしたが、この名古屋は「Absolution Blues」での開演からシームレスにショウ序盤を撮影。数年を費やしてきた伝説プロジェクト最後の夜をじっくりと楽しめます。

以上の４種・１時間58分に及ぶ秘宝映像です。ただでさえ珍しい関係者ショットですが、その主役がCOVERDALE-PAGEとなればなおさら。気になる豪華な大物合体プロジェクトの裏側に迫れる１本です。PVや現場コンサートのオーディエンス・ショットとはまた違ったCOVERDALE-PAGEの素顔。そして、スタッフの喜びまでもが滲む傑作映像集。どうぞ、本編プレス２CDと共に存分にお楽しみください。
