Cyndi Lauper’s first Japan tour realized while the sensation of releasing “TRUE COLORS” was taking place. A new mysterious first public soundboard album that conveys the scene is unearthed. Introducing the permanent storage press 2CD.
What is recorded in this work is … Actually, it is unknown. This is really mysterious, but the only thing that the cassette master excavated this time knows is the “sound board for Japan performances”. Other than that, it is wrapped in a mysterious veil. However, some reasoning can be made from a small amount of information and recorded voice. To explain that, let’s first look back at Cindy’s first Japan tour schedule.

The venue is unknown, but this is just the beginning. In fact, the real mystery is yet to come. What was recorded on the Nazo cassette master was an excellent stereo sound board recording. However, the sound is super unique. When you hear “stereo sound board”, you usually think of an official live album, FM broadcast, or a sound board directly connected to a mix table, but this work is different from any of them. First of all, it is the enthusiasm of the strangely vivid field that regenerates and flows out. You can clearly hear “Shindy!” And “Kya !!” by Western girls. You might think “Oh, the audience” here, but as soon as the live starts, a beautifully separated, extra-thick, close-knit performance sound and singing voice will flow out.
With this alone, it still seems like “Is it a super-superb audience?”, But occasionally the guitar and synth pan cleanly to the left and right. If this is a spatial recording, the sounds output from the PAs on the left and right of the venue will be mixed and the bread will not be beautiful. And it is the origin of the mystery master that is not good. In fact, it was leaked from the people involved at that time. Not only Cindy’s singing voice, but also Rick Derringer & Aldo Nova’s Super Twin and David Rosensal’s synths are full of the real thrill of being poured directly into the brain. Isn’t it a mix of “SBD directly connected to the table + cheers by an ambient microphone” that was put into storage while assuming a broadcast or something? [A panoramic live album that surpasses the standard professional shots] Although the theory has become long, the true value of this work lies in the best show drawn with super vivid sound. As mentioned above, TV broadcast professional shots are left for the first performance in Japan, but this work is much longer than that. Let’s organize the set while comparing here.

… And it looks like this. Except for “The Goonies’R’Good Enough”, which was the theme of the movie “The Goonies”, all the initial two repertoires. “+ Α” indicates songs that are difficult to count, such as medley arrangements and “True Colors” sung twice. The volume is much easier to “what you are removing” than “what you are singing”, “TRUE COLORS” is all songs, and even “SHE’S SO UNUSUAL” is “When You Were” Everything except “Mine” and “Witness”. It’s exactly “live performance version SHE’S SO UNUSUAL + TRUE COLORS”, but in the meantime, a fresh Japanese MC was also shown. The intervals between the songs have been cut in several places (this is also the same as the leaked master), but you can also enjoy Cindy’s voice saying “Genki Desuka”, “Ai Shitemasu” and “Cute Inet!”

そんな本作に記録されているのは……実は、不明。ここが本当にミステリアスなのですが、今回発掘されたカセット・マスターで分かっているのは「日本公演のサウンドボード」ということだけ。それ以外はナゾのベールに包まれているのです。とは言え、わずかな情報や記録されていた音声からある程度の推理も成り立つ。それをご説明するためにも、まずはシンディ初のジャパン・ツアーのスケジュールから振り返ってみましょう。

【謎が謎を呼ぶ全世界初公開のサウンドボード・マスター】
以上、全９公演。公演数だけでなく、各地の代表的な名会場を押さえた堂々たるツアーでした。その最終日はテレビ放送もされたことで有名ですが、本作はそれとは異なる。演奏がまったく別なのです。ただし、それ以上は本当に不明。会場を特定できるコールもなければ、MCも見当たらない。時折聞こえてくる訛りのない声援や喝采から察するに、恐らくは日本武道館。TV放送された最終日とは違うので、冒頭４公演のいずれかではないかと考えられるのです。今後、本作を契機としてオーディエンス録音の発掘でも進めば将来的には判明するかも知れませんが、現時点では「たぶん武道館」が限界なのです。
そんな会場不明の本作ですが、この程度は序の口。実は本当のミステリーはこれからです。ナゾのカセット・マスターに記録されていたのは、絶品なステレオ・サウンドボード録音でした。ただし、そのサウンドは超個性的。普通「ステレオ・サウンドボード」と聞くと公式ライヴアルバムやFM放送、あるいはミックス卓直結サウンドボードを思い浮かべると思いますが、本作はそのどれとも異なるのです。まず、再生して流れ出るのは異様に生々しい現場の熱狂。洋楽女子たちによる「しんでぃー！」「きゃー!!」もはっきり聞こえるのです。ここで「あ、オーディエンス」と思われるかも知れませんが、ライヴが始まるや綺麗にセパレートした極太・ド密着な演奏音と歌声が流れ出てくるのです。
これだけならまだ「超・極上のオーディエンスでは？」とも思えるのですが、時折ギターやシンセが左右に綺麗にパンする。もし、これが空間録音だったら会場左右のＰＡから出力された音声が混じって綺麗なパンにはならない。そして、ダメ押しなのが謎マスターの出自。実は当時の関係者から流出したものなのです。シンディの歌声はもちろん、リック・デリンジャー＆アルド・ノヴァというスーパー・ツインやデヴィッド・ローゼンサルのシンセも脳みそに直接流し込まれる醍醐味がいっぱい。放送か何かを想定しながらお蔵入りにでもなった「卓直結SBD＋アンビエント・マイクによる歓声」ミックスなのではないでしょうか。
【大定番プロショットを超える全景ライヴアルバム】
やたら小理屈が長くなってしまいましたが、本作の真価は超ビビッド・サウンドで描かれる最高のショウにある。前述のように初来日公演にはTV放送プロショットも残されているわけですが、本作はそれより遙かに長尺。ここで比較しながらセットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。映画『グーニーズ』のテーマだった「The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough」以外はすべて初期２枚のレパートリー。「＋α」というのはメドレーアレンジや２度歌われた「True Colors」など、カウントしづらい曲を示しています。そのボリュームは「何を歌っているか」よりも「何を外しているか」の方が遙かにカンタンで、『TRUE COLORS』はズバリ全曲ですし、『SHE’S SO UNUSUAL』にしても「When You Were Mine」「Witness」以外の全部です。まさに「生演奏版SHE’S SO UNUSUAL＋TRUE COLORS」なわけですが、その合間には初々しい日本語MCも披露。何ヶ所かの曲間がカットされています（これも流出マスターそのままです）が、「元気デスカ」「愛シテマス」「可愛イネッ！」と語りかけるシンディの声もサウンドボードでしっかりと楽しめるのです。
親日家の代表のようにも語られるシンディ・ローパー初のジャパン・ツアー。そのショウを関係者流出のサウンドボード・マスターで楽しめるライヴアルバムの大傑作です。ミステリアスな謎を多く残しつつも、それ以上に若々しい歌声と全盛の勢い、そして洋楽女子たちの熱狂が眩しい。まさに文化遺産級の１本。この輝きを永久に残すプレス２CDで存分にお楽しみください。

★関係者経由で登場した完全初登場サウンドボード。曲間はアンビエントマイクを大き目にミックス。テレビ放送された最終日に向けての武道館のラフ・レコーディング？（曲間のカット（テープマスターから）は数曲ごとにありますが楽曲は、ほぼ完全に収録されています。）シンディの日本語MCもテレビ放送の22日最終日のようには、まだ、こなれてない。

The main press 2CD is a sound board album that details Cindy’s first performance in Japan. It is a new masterpiece that can be said to be a treasure in the history of Japanese Western music. This is the only way to celebrate its birth. The multi-camera pro shot, which has reigned as a symbol of the first visit to Japan, will be included as a special bonus.
As mentioned in the commentary on the main story, the performance of “September 22, 1986: Nippon Budokan” is included in this work. It is the TV broadcast professional shot. Since the video era, we have created a group of various Genes that have been created for many years, but this work is the highest master. Anyway, it is beautiful, the master freshness with no dubbing marks is dazzling, and the coloring and details are super clear. Of course, there is also the texture of analog photography with the era, but I would like to call it “completely official class” even for the modern eyes of the digital heyday. Vivid and fresher than PARIS. It makes me wonder, “Huh? Did it appear on the official DVD?”

… And it looks like this. I feel the richness of the initial set again, but her action that makes you younger has a stronger impact than that. She’s always full of energy, but this time she’s really fresh, spinning around without stopping for a second. The performance is familiar in “IN PARIS”, but it is even more powerful if it is this work with vivid video and audio. The vocalization of full pitching can be fully enjoyed in the main press 2CD, but that singing voice often comes out with such intense action.
Cindy encouraged Japan with her words and actions even in the event of repeated disasters. It was in 1986 that she first met Japanese fans in person.
