l It can only be said that it was fortunate that David Crosby, who sadly passed away the other day, stepped on the soil of Japan as a member of Crosby, Stills & Nash. Three visits to Japan have been realized since 1991, but for the first visit to Japan in 1991, there is a professional shot video that was broadcast on BS at that time. Above all, regarding the last visit to Japan, there is a masterpiece of limited press CD called “CROSBY STILLS & NASH TOKYO 2015 2ND NIGHT”.
Under such circumstances, his visit to Japan in 1995 was completely overlooked. After all, let alone broadcasting, items will not be released at all even in real tie. The fact of coming to Japan itself may be forgotten.
It is true that CSN at that time released a studio album “AFTER THE STORM” a year ago, but it did not become a big hit (rather, it became their lowest selling album). The memory of his visit to Japan is still fresh… I think the timing has diluted the impact.
Reflecting this situation, the 1995 visit to Japan was limited to hall-class venues. However, ironically, only enthusiastic fans gathered on that day, and the day after day was a great success.

These two titles are epoch-making releases that convey such forgotten excitement to future generations and also realize the meaning of commemorating Crosby. The first is the second day of the performance in Japan, but the venue is the nostalgic Yu-Port. It can be said that the fact that such a venue was used also clearly tells the position at the time of CSN, but that is why the excitement of the day was hot.
The audience on the day literally held their breath as they watched CSN, who visited the venue at the level of a public hall. It is no wonder even if it was released on the press CD anymore.
And now, what makes me most happy is that this sound source captures a balanced sound image centered on Crosby’s singing voice. I can’t think of a superb audience recording that is so suitable for remembering his unabated singing voice now.

As I said earlier, the first day of the performance in Japan was very exciting, and the members, who must have felt better about it, were clearly relaxed as they challenged the stage. Among them, Crosby and Nash are real, and the singing voice echoes from the opening.
On the other hand, Stills was a little tired in the first half of the live, probably because they had too much excitement the day before. Actually, I can’t deny the feeling that the lead guitar of “Deja Vu” is lacking in vividness, but I feel that the cheerful Crosby & Nash covers it.
Such Stills also switched on after showing “As I Come Of Age” which was not shown in Japan in 1991 or 2015, but more than that he released in his 1975 solo album There must have been quite a few maniacs who were moved to tears by the fact that they were able to listen to a well-known song live in Japan, which had been performed on the CSNY stage for a long time.
The best part is that before “Our House”, when Nash playfully tries to sing BJ Thomas’ “Even if I get wet in the rain”, Crosby immediately stops him.
In this way, the fact that the 1995 Japan tour was such a happy stage is enough to surprise fans not only in Japan but around the world. Now that Crosby has passed away, please enjoy this forgotten performance in Japan with an amazing audience to your heart’s content!

l　先日惜しまれつつ亡くなられたデヴィッド・クロスビーがクロスビー・スティルス＆ナッシュの一員として日本の土を踏んでくれたこと、それは今となっては幸運だったとしか言いようがありません。1991年から三回の来日が実現してくれましたが、まず初来日であった91年に関しては当時BSで放送されたプロショット映像が存在します。何より最後の来日に関しては『CROSBY STILLS & NASH TOKYO 2015 2ND NIGHT』という限定プレスCDの名作がある。
そうした状況の中で完全に見過ごされてしまったのが1995年の来日。何しろ放送はおろか、アイテムがリアタイでも一切リリースされずじまい。もはや来日の事実自体が忘れ去られつつあるかもしれません。
確かに当時のCSNには一年前にスタジオ・アルバム『AFTER THE STORM』がリリースされたものの、さしたるヒットにもならず（むしろ彼らの一番売れないアルバムとなってしまった）おまけに91年の来日の記憶がまだ新しい…という中でのタイミングもインパクトを薄めてしまったように思えます。
そうした状況を反映し、95年の来日はホール・クラスの会場ばかりとなりました。ところが皮肉なことに当日は熱心なファンばかりが集まり、なおかつ連日が大盛況となっていたのでした。

そんな忘れられた盛り上がりを後世に伝え、なおかつクロスビーを追悼する意味で実現する画期的なリリースが今回の二タイトル。最初は来日公演二日目なのですが、その会場は懐かしのゆうぽうと。このような会場が使われたことがまたCSN当時の立場を如実に物語っていると言えるのでしょうが、だからこそ当日の盛り上がりはアツかった。
市民ホールレベルの会場に見参したCSNを当日の観客は文字通り固唾を飲んで見守っており、それを物語るように今回リリースされる独自入手のオーディエンス録音の音質は絶品。もはやプレスCDでリリースされたとしても何ら不思議はないレベル。
それに今となっては何よりも嬉しいのが、この音源はクロスビーの歌声を中心としたバランスの音像で捉えてくれているのです。今は亡き彼の衰え知らずだった歌声を偲ぶのにこれほど相応しい極上オーディエンス録音は考えられません。

先にも申しましたように、この時の来日公演は初日から大いに盛り上がっており、それに気を良くしたであろうメンバーは明らかにリラックスしてステージに挑んでいる。中でもクロスビーとナッシュはそれが如実で、オープニングから伸びやかに歌声を響かせる。
その反面スティルスは前日に盛り上がりすぎたからか、ライブ前半はちょっとお疲れ気味。実際に「Deja Vu」のリードギターなどは精彩を欠いてしまっている感が否めませんが、その分も陽気なクロスビー＆ナッシュがカバーしてくれている感が。
そんなスティルスも91年や2015年の来日では披露されなかった「As I Come Of Age」を披露してからはスイッチが入ったのですが、それ以上に彼が1975年のソロアルバムでリリースする前からCSNYのステージで披露して広く知られていた佳曲を日本でも生で聞けただなんて…と感涙にむせたマニアは少なくなかったはず。
極めつけは「Our House」の前にナッシュがふざけてBJ・トーマスの「雨にぬれても」を歌い出そうとするところ、すかさずクロスビーが止めるという漫才まがいな場面が何とも微笑ましい。
このように95年の来日公演がこれほどまでご機嫌なステージであったということは日本のみならず、世界中のファンを驚かせるに十分なリリース。クロスビーが亡くなられた今こそ、この忘れ去られた来日公演を驚きの極上オーディエンスにて心ゆくまでお楽しみください！
