Bernie Marsden Trio / Marne La Ballee 2018 /1CDR / Uxbridge Billy Bob’s, Marne-la-Vallee, France 18th February 2018 Click Image To Enlarge 自伝『WHERE’S MY GUITAR』やギター・コレクション本『TALES OF TONE AND VOLUME』を上梓するなど、キャリアの総括に入っていた2018年のバーニー・マースデン。そんな彼のブルース・ロックを現場体験できる新名盤が登場です。 そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2018年２月18日マルヌ＝ラ＝ヴァレ公演」。その極上オーディエンス録音です。2005年にM3が解散した後のバーニーはソロに戻り、悠々自適な活動に終始。趣味的にブルースロックを追究し、ライヴと言えば大規模なツアーと言うより散発的なクラブ・ギグ。当時の資料はかなり曖昧（このショウも「２月18日」説と「２月23日」説があったりします）なので整理するのは止めておきますが、そんなキャリアでも2014年ー2019年はわりと活発にステージも行っていたようです。 本作は、そんなクラブ・ギグの現場を真空パックしたライヴアルバム。そのサウンドは、まさに極上の密室感。空気感を含んだオーディエンスらしいサウンドではあるのですが、物理的に狭いクラブだけに間近感も絶大。バーニーが目の前で歌い、ギターを弾いているのは肌感覚で味わえるのです。そして彼を支えるリズム隊もくっきり・はっきり。この日は『TALES OF TONE AND VOLUME』の付属CDでも共演したトリオ編成（盟友ニール・マーレイと元MAGNUMのミッキー・バーカー）で、シンプルなアンサンブルの１音１音が輪郭まで鮮やか。それぞれの演奏が絡み合って１本の荒縄を編んでいくのがよく分かります。 そんな秘匿の密室サウンドで描かれるのは、バーニー流ブルースロックの極地。WHITESNAKEの名曲も交えつつ、ブルースのクラシックスも盛りだくさん。ここで、その内容を整理してみましょう。 ●ホワイトスネイク（４曲） ・Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues／Fool For Your Loving／Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City／Here I Go Again ●その他（９曲＋α） ・フリートウッド・マック：Black ...

Brian Wilson & Jeff Beck / Greek Theatre 2013 Definitive Master / 2CD / Wardour Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, CA, USA 20th October 2013 Click Image To Enlarge   　今からちょうど10年前、アメリカだけで敢行されたブライアン・ウィルソンとジェフ・ベックのジョイントツアー。当時は米英ビッグネームの異種格闘技戦のように映り、大きな話題を呼んだ一方で「これぞ」というようなアイテムがリリースされず、せっかくのユニークなツアーの実態が掴みづらかった。しかしベックが鬼籍に入った今となっては、非常に貴重なライブ共演の機会。おまけにリアタイでリリースされたCD-Rアイテムなど今や忘れ去られたも同然。むしろマニアの間でも見過ごされた感のあるツアーという印象が否めません。 　それに輪をかけてプレスCDに見合う極上音源が現れなかったというのも事実。ところが今回、海外コレクターから提供された2013年10月20日のグリーク・シアターは驚愕のハイクオリティ・オーディエンス。とにかく音像が近くてクリアネスも完璧。これぞ「まるでサウンドボード」という表現がピッタリ当てはまる傑作録音。バンドの出音がまったく違うブライアンセット、ベックセットそれぞれをこれほどまで完璧な状態で捉えてくれたとは。 　なるほどリアタイでここまで秀でたオーディエンス録音が流通しなかったからこそ、当時は貴重なジョイントツアーがCD-Rリリースだけでお茶を濁されてのでしょう。ビッグバンドのブライアン、ソリッドなベックそれぞれのステージを文句なしに完璧な音質で捉えてくれている。これほど抜きんでたクオリティを誇るオーディエンス録音は限定プレスCDでリリースしないと罰が当たるというもの。   　そんな圧巻の音質だけでもファンからマニアまで幅広い世代に胸をはって推せる極上オーディエンス・アルバムなのですが、内容がまた素晴らしい。ブライアンセットは稀代の名盤『PET SOUNDS』全曲セットという伝家の宝刀にビーチボーイズ・クラシックを散りばめた極めつけの凝縮セットとなっており、当時盤石を誇ったブライアン・バンドの演奏は申し分ない。またアル・ジャーディンだけでなく前年のビーチ・ボーイズ、フルメンバー集結の名残からデヴィッド・マークスまで加わっているのですが、彼が一切関与しなかったアルバム『PET SOUNDS』においてもタイトル曲でギターソロを弾くなど見せ場が設けられている。 　一方ベックの方はバイオリニスト、リジー・ボールとベースのロンダ・スミスというバンドに女性メンバーが初めて二人加わったという点で後の『LOUD HAILER』を予見させるものがありました。このフレッシュな編成に加えて当時頻繁に演奏していたジミヘン・カバーの「Little Wing」の素晴らしいインスト・アレンジ、さらに「Yemin」以降におけるリジーが弾くバイオリンの活躍ぶりなど、今となっては2013年のベック・バンドだけでしか味わえなかったサウンドとプレイが満載で、彼女たちをバックにベックが気持ち良さそうに弾いている様が伝わってきます。 　そして二組のジョイント・ステージではベックが「Surf’s Up」のメロディを弾いたかと思えば、「Brush With the Blues」ではブライアン・バンドのメンバーがコーラス・ハーモニーを付けるなど、こうしたジョイントならではのレア場面が続出。もちろん「Barbara Ann」ではベックがギターソロを弾いており、彼が亡くなられた今となっては単なる異種格闘技戦には留まらないジョイントならではの演奏がたっぷりと繰り広げられていたのだと思い知らされます。何より音質が非常に良いので、なおさらの幻のようなジョイントツアーの忘れ去られた魅力を満載した最高のオーディエンス・アルバム。この音の良さには驚き！   Exactly 10 years ago, Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck’s joint tour was held exclusively ...
