Bryan Adams’ performance in Japan, which was his first in six years, is still fresh in his memory. Introducing an ear monitor album where you can play the latest stage in your head.
What is recorded in this work is “Vancouver performance on August 12, 2023.” This is the IEM matrix sound source. This show was not a regular concert, but a charity performance held for a food bank in Vancouver. It was a special event with double headliners Adams and BLONDIE, as well as appearances by INHALER, Belinda Carlyle, and DEAR ROUGE. However, Adams is currently in the middle of the “SO HAPPY IT HURTS Tour”, and this show is also part of the tour schedule. First, let’s take a look at his current status with his schedule and check his position in this work.

This is the schedule for 2023 that has been announced so far. It has already been more than half a year since our performance in Japan, which feels like just yesterday. Plans for next year have not been announced yet, but they are currently on an ambitious tour that will take them not only to North America but also to Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa. Under such circumstances, the Vancouver performance of this work was the main leg “North America #3”. This was the final concert.
This work conveys such a show with an extremely vivid matrix sound. In fact, this sound source is also distributed as a sound board, but it is actually an IEM recording intercepted at the scene. However, it is not just an ear monitor sound source, but a luxury product that uses three types of IEM sound sources and is even matrixed with audience recording. Moreover, the main character is IEM. The specific contents of the matrix have not been made public, but judging by the sound alone, audience recording is probably only used for applause between songs and call and response. The extremely thick and close performance sound and vocals dominate the entire song, and you can feel the cheers without getting too obvious.
And the sound is super vivid. Even though it is matrixed, it does not have the polished feel of an official work, and the excitement of live performance is not lost in the slightest. The nuance is similar to a live broadcast where the mix and release are performed at the same time as the performance. For this reason, it’s hard to call it “official grade!”, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. In the first place, there is nothing that can compete with audience recording for the on-site experience of a concert, and rather the strength of soundboards and IEMs lies in the sense of synchronization that allows your whole body to become one with the live performance. This work is full of flavor. That’s what gives you the immersive feeling of hearing Adams singing in your head.
What is depicted with such immersive sound is a full show that flashes back to that wonderful performance in Japan. In Japan, the set changed every day, so let’s keep an eye on the fixed songs and daily songs.

At our store, we have archived all four performances in Japan with original recordings, but among them, “BUDOKAN 2023 (Uxbridge 1860)” was the closest to the set of this work. However, it is still not the same, and in this work “Please Forgive Me”, which was not performed at Nippon Budokan, is also performed.
Even at the age of 63, Bryan Adams continues to captivate the world with his passionate singing. This is an IEM album that will directly feed that singing voice into his brain. Apparently, he recommended himself to Ritchie Blackmore by saying, “I want to go to Japan as the singer of RAINBOW,” but this is a new album that I’m really looking forward to. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

６年ぶりだった日本公演も記憶に新しいブライアン・アダムス。その最新ステージが脳内再生されるイヤモニ・アルバムが登場です。
そんな本作に記録されているのは「2023年８月12日バンクーバー公演」。そのIEMマトリクス音源です。このショウは通常コンサートではなく、バンクーバーのフードバンクのために開催されたチャリティ公演。アダムスとBLONDIEをダブル・ヘッドライナーを務めつつ、INHALERやベリンダ・カーライル、DEAR ROUGEも出演する特別イベントでした。とは言え、アダムスは現在“SO HAPPY IT HURTS Tour”の真っ最中であり、このショウもスケジュール的にはツアーの一部でもある。まずは、そんな彼の近況をスケジュールでおさらいし、本作のポジションも確かめてみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2023年のスケジュール。つい昨日のように感じられる来日公演も、もう半年以上が経ってしまいました。来年の予定はまだ発表されていませんが、北米だけでなく欧州や中東、南アフリカまで巡る意欲的なツアーを行っています。そんな中で本作のバンクーバー公演があったのは、メイン・レッグである「北米#3」。その最終公演にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを伝える本作は、極めて鮮烈なマトリクス・サウンド。実のところ、この音源はサウンドボードとしても流通していたりするのですが、実際には現場で傍受されたIEM録音です。しかし、ただのイヤモニ音源ではなく、IEM音源が３種も使用されており、さらにオーディエンス録音までマトリクスされた贅沢品。しかも、主役はIEM。具体的なマトリクス内容は公開されていないのですが、音だけで判断するなら恐らくオーディエンス録音は曲間の喝采やコール＆レスポンス程度にしか使われていない。極太・ド直近な演奏音とヴォーカルが全編を支配しており、白々しくならない程度に歓声も感じられるのです。
そして、そのサウンドは超生々しい。マトリクスされているとは言ってもオフィシャル作品のような磨き込み感はなく、生演奏のムキ出し感は少しも損なわれていない。ちょうど演奏と同時にミックスと公開を同時に行う生中継に近いニュアンスです。そのため「オフィシャル級！」とは喧伝しがたいものの、それが悪いわけでもない。そもそもコンサート現場の現場体験ではオーディエンス録音に敵うものはないわけで、むしろサウンドボードやIEMの強みは生演奏と全身が一体化するシンクロ感にある。本作は、その旨みが全開。それこそ頭の中でアダムスが歌っているような没入感を味わえるのです。
そんな没入サウンドで描かれるのは、あの素晴らしき来日公演がフラッシュ・バックするフルショウ。日本でも毎日セットが変わっていましたので、ここでも固定曲と日替わり曲に注目しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。当店では来日４公演をすべてオリジナル録音でアーカイヴしておりますが、その中で本作のセットと一番近かったのは『BUDOKAN 2023（Uxbridge 1860）』でした。ただしそれでも同一ではなく、本作では日本武道館で演奏しなかった「Please Forgive Me」も披露されています。
63歳を迎え、なお熱い歌い込みで世界を魅了しているブライアン・アダムス。その歌声を脳みそに直接流し込んでくれるIEMアルバムです。リッチー・ブラックモアに「RAINBOWのシンガーとして日本に行きたい」と自己推薦したそうですが、それさえ本気で楽しみにしたくなる新名盤。どうぞ、存分にご堪能ください。
