It’s been 10 years since the revival of “PERMANENT VACATION”. In 1997, AEROSMITH returned from the gorgeous GEFFEN to the old nest COLUMBIA and sent the new work “NINE LIVES” to No. 1 in the United States. Introducing a sound board and pro shot set that oozes its heyday.
Two performances are included in this work, the stereo sound board recording of “May 17, 1997 ROCK AM RING” is on disc 1, and the next day “May 18 ROCK IM PARK” multi-camera pro. A 2-disc set with shots on disc 2. A gorgeous set that won Germany’s leading brother festivals “ROCK AM RING” and “ROCK IM PARK”.
In the GEFFEN era, AEROSMITH had a huge success, which was said to be “the best in the world” at that time, but the momentum stopped once in 1994. The announcement of “NINE LIVES” and the start of the tour showed a strange excitement due to the restart of the super big game, partly because of the label transfer problem and the silence for about 3 years. First of all, let’s check the position of the show from the schedule at that time.

This is 1997 AEROSMITH. It’s a simple but imposing world tour with 83 performances … I think it’s actually less than half. The schedule was added after the addition, and in the end, the “Nine Lives Tour” became a huge tour with a total of 204 performances until July 1999. Under such circumstances, the two performances of this work are in the early stages. It was the 5th / 6th performance of the “Europe” leg at the beginning.
“ROCK AM RING” and “ROCK IM PARK”, which appeared in the midst of such a restart, are broadcast on radio and TV because they are very famous festivals. It has become a staple that has produced many existing cases. This work is also such a broadcast sound board / professional shot, but it is a set of the highest peak master. The FM broadcast (disc 1) of “ROCK AM RING” is a vivid mix that seems to be broadcast, and even the bass of Tom Hamilton is slamming. With the sound board’s unique sense of direct connection and a colorful stereo mix, the five members of AEROSMITH rush into their brains with their feet.
The TV broadcast (disc 2) of “ROCK IM PARK” instead has a light audio mix, but the multi-camera pro shots are spectacular and the master freshness is also excellent. I can’t deny the analog feel of the times, but I can’t find any tape twist, white line noise, or distortion. Even the oldest Steven Tyler can fully enjoy the energetic performance that was still in his 40s.
The two performances drawn with such quality show off the classics of the 70’s, as well as a lot of hit songs from the GEFFEN era and delicious “NINE LIVES” numbers. The contents will differ between the two performances, so let’s organize them together here.

『PERMANENT VACATION』の復活劇から10年。絢爛のGEFFENから古巣のCOLUMBIAに戻り、新作『NINE LIVES』を全米１位に送り込んだ1997年のAEROSMITH。その最盛の超大物ぶりが滲むサウンドボード＆プロショット・セットが登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは２公演で「1997年５月17日ROCK AM RING」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音をディスク１に、翌日「５月18日ROCK IM PARK」のマルチカメラ・プロショットをディスク２に配した２枚組。ドイツを代表する兄弟フェス“ROCK AM RING”・“ROCK IM PARK”を制覇した豪華セットです。
GEFFEN時代のAEROSMITHは破竹の快進撃で当時「世界一」とも言われた巨大な成功を収めたわけですが、その勢いは1994年に一度ストップ。レーベルの移籍問題もあって３年ほど沈黙したせいもあって『NINE LIVES』の発表とツアーの開始は、超大物の再始動とあって異様な盛り上がりを見せました。まずは、そんな当時のスケジュールからショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

そんな再始動に湧く中で出演した“ROCK AM RING”・“ROCK IM PARK”は、超有名フェスという事もあってラジオやTVでも放送。数々の既発を生む定番となってきました。本作もそんな放送サウンドボード／プロショットなわけですが、その最高峰マスターをセットしたものです。“ROCK AM RING”のFM放送（ディスク１）はいかにも放送らしい生々しいミックスで、トム・ハミルトンのベースまでゴリッゴリ。サウンドボード特有のド直結感と極彩色なステレオ・ミックスでAEROSMITHの５人が土足で脳内にズカズカ上がり込んでくる。
代わっての“ROCK IM PARK”のTV放送（ディスク２）は音声ミックスこそ淡泊なものの、マルチカメラ・プロショットの見応えが絶大でマスター鮮度も絶品。時代柄アナログ感触は否めませんが、テープヨレや白線ノイズ、歪みの類がまるで見当たらない。最年長のスティーヴン・タイラーでさえまだ40代だったエネルギッシュなパフォーマンスをたっぷりと楽しめるのです。
そんなクオリティで描かれる２公演は、70年代クラシックスも披露しつつ、GEFFEN時代の大ヒット曲と美味しい『NINE LIVES』ナンバーも盛りだくさん。２公演で内容が異なりますので、ここで併せて整理しておきましょう。
