とはいえ、あれだけ優秀な音質を更に超えるなどあり得るのでしょうか。御存知の通り『A GENERATION’S LEGACY (※以降” 既発盤 “とします)』は、大元の音源であるカセットからデジタル変換されたDATをマスター使用していました。一見、この過程のどこにも音の劣化を招く要因は無さそうですが、今回登場する音源は大元の音源であるカセットから直接デジタル化しており、DATを経由していないのです。僅かこれだけの差ではあるのですが、しかしこれが凄まじいアッパー感の根幹となっており、記録された生の原音力が直接剥き出しになるという驚異のアップデートを実現しているのです。音域全体に充満する音の濃密感と響きの色鮮やかさはまるで透明な海中に陽が射した海底の様で、音色ひとつひとつに本来あった信じ難い重量感、静謐で深い透明度はその先の深海の神秘を見る様です。また幅広さと奥行きを実感させる立体的で活きた音の振幅はアホウドリの鳴き声が頭上に木霊する夜の無人海辺の如くであり、これに接すると既発盤はDAT複製された事によって音が蒸発して軽く細くなっていた事や、海底に生物が居るのは分かるものの、それが正確に何かまでは分からない程度の解像度であった事など、マスター本来の原音情報がかなり失われていた事を認めざるを得ないのです(※ 今回のカセットマスター直の音質と音の情報量を100とすると、あれほど音質良好な既発盤でも80程度だったと気付かされる筈です)。これを余すところ無く世界初ディスク化したのがこの最新作という訳ですが、今回は音痩せした既発盤と違って本物のマスターカセット直のデジタル化、しかも7年前とは違う現代の最新機材を使用しての最高級デジタル・トランスファーですから、これはもうコピーというよりはマスターサウンドと何ら変わらないクローンと申し上げて良いでしょう。これこそ究極のアップグレード、遂に登場した真の同音源決定版となっているのです!!

ディスク2『狂気』全曲再現では導入「Speak To Me」で既にアッパー感があり、ヘッドホンで聴かずともSEの中にある細かい音の描写力や中音域の立体感が更に増しているのを実感される筈です。「Breathe」も音の塊の中から跳ね上がるエレキピアノの煌きが一層眩しくなり、当日の熱狂と演奏の鋭さがひと皮もふた皮も剥けたサウンドで迫ってきますし、「On The Run」も既発盤で驚かされたあのサウンドが更にグレードアップ。濃密感と鋭さを増した姿で甦り、サラウンド効果の様なあの音像がますます精緻で立体的なサウンドで出てくるのです。「Time」では場内に木霊して拡散するリックの単音が非常に眩しく、両雄の歌声の近さやバックに入る女性ボーカルもこれまで以上にハッキリ聴こえ、音の輪郭がグッと増しているのが分かると思います。中盤のギターソロもジリジリと照り付ける様な灼熱の音色で出ていて、後半でリックが歌詞を間違えて吹き出してしまう例の箇所も生々しさが断然違っているのです。「The Great Gig In The Sky」は鮮やかさと伸びの良さが更に際立つのですが、注目したいのは音色の艶が高濃度・高密度で広がってゆく点です。これは既発盤をお持ちであれば是非聴き比べて戴きたいのですが、DATを経由した事で音がどの様に肉痩せしたサウンドに変容するかが、多重コーラスとピアノの響きの中で大変良く判るシーンとなっています。「Money」は一層マッシヴになった音像が魅力で、サックスの唸るような響きとギターソロがマスター本来の精悍な音色で甦りますし、これが「Us And Them」になるとその高精度な質感の補強が誰の耳にもハッキリ現れる様になるのです。そしてこれが「Any Colour You Like」で極みに達するのですが、その女性コーラスの鮮やかな多層感、鋭く瑞々しいシンバルの刻み、音と音の間隙に生まれる雄弁さなど、この日10分超えする演奏から私達はまだまだ多くを受け取れる事に気付かされるのです。「Brain Damage」もロジャーの声が近く太くなり、響きが本来の奥行きを取り戻した事で演奏音本来の大きな視野・視点・展望が掴み易く、ここから「Eclipse」へ向かう音像も演奏から放たれる知の解放がソース史上最強の高水準な響きで全方位に拡散する様子に誰もが言葉を無くすでしょう。

最後にもう一押し、そもそも何故この録音ソースはこんなに良い音で残っているのかについて、本ソースの歴史と共に触れておきましょう。このソースの原録音はテーパーが当日の会場にSONY製のTC-152SD(※ 初代デンスケの海外版)を持ち込み、マクセルのUDカセット120分をドルビーBオンで録音した事が判明しています。デジタル・トランスファーは2009年に別の人物が担当していますが、驚くのは原音に惚れ込んだそのエンジニアがかの超高性能再生機” ナカミチドラゴン “をここで使用している事で、オーディオ・ファンなら何故この再生音がこれほど高解像でブレが無く、芯の太いハイグレードな質の高さを持っているのかがこれで御理解戴けるでしょう。これを更に別のエンジニアがデジタル・リマスターとクリーンアップを施しているのですが、元々中音域で信号が誇張されていたという原音像もナカミチで甦った極上の再生音を元にデジタル変換・リマスターした事で明瞭度、深さ、音の威力のハーモニック・バランスがより完璧に整えられており、これが最高値のリスニング体験に結び付いているのです。念の為ですが、これのDATコピーをマスターにした『A GENERATION’S LEGACY』が決してダメだったのではありません。DATを経由しないだけで音の情報量や密度、スケール感にこれほど違いが発見出来るのはあれが高音質盤であったからこそですし、それは本作でこの日の演奏からより多くの情報を掴み取れる特権の礎ともなっているのです。フロイド専門レーベルSigmaだからこそ出来た世界最速・初音盤化にして究極のプレス盤、どうぞ今週末はこの頂点突き抜けるアッパー感を存分にお愉しみ下さい!!
