Yngwie Malmsteen in 1996 who came to Japan with the No. 1 singer of all time recognized by everyone. The first public recording that conveys the scene is newly discovered. Introducing a press 2CD that permanently preserves the shining sound of the original DAT master.
This week, four original recordings of “INSPIRATION Tour” and “FACING THE ANIMAL Tour” will appear for the first time, but this work is the former’s masterpiece. It is the best audience recording of “November 5, 1996: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall”. At the time, he was in the middle of the “INSPIRATION Tour” with the strongest singer: Mark Balls. This is Yngwie Malmsteen in the “INSPIRATION” era. Although the show was held several times in South America / North America from the summer, the main part of the tour after the album numbering started from Japan. This work is earlier than “MALMO 1996” and “TILBURG 1996”. Speaking of coming to Japan in 1996, “INSPIRATION JAPAN TOUR 1996 (Shades 1370)” is a staple at our shop, and “NAGOYA 1996 DAT MASTER (Shades 1620)” will be released at the same time this week. A total of 5 performances. At that time, it was at the peak of popularity in Japan, but because “INSPIRATION” was a cover album, the visit to Japan was small and only in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. In Tokyo, two places and three performances were held in Shinjuku (Welfare Pension Hall) and Nakano (Sun Plaza), and this work is the former. It was also a concert right in the middle of the entire visit to Japan.
This work, vacuum-packed from such a show, is truly a masterpiece. Actually, it is the first appearance recording brought by the same original route as “NAGOYA 1996 DAT MASTER” and “INSPIRATION JAPAN TOUR 1996 (Osaka)”, but this work is the best masterpiece. It is furiously clear and direct, and a vivid performance tail sound like a laser beam flutters in the crystal-clear atmosphere, and each grain of the rapid-fire guitar stands out beautifully. Even if Yngwie knocks down with all his might, the beauty does not shake. If you listen carefully with headphones, you can feel a slight hall noise component, but it is at the same level as the official edition “LIVE !!”. It does not cause turbidity or cloudiness, but rather makes Mark’s singing voice more operatic and even majestic.
A full show with the No. 1 singer, who is both talented and popular, is depicted with a beautiful direct sound that can be called “just like an official.” This tour is all about valuable cover songs, so let’s check the original story and organize it.

On the first day in Tokyo, instead of “You Don’t Remember, I’ll Never Forget” and “Rising Force”, they performed “Icarus’ Dream Suite Op.4”, which they haven’t performed in other performances. It would have been better if there were more songs because it was marked, but even so, the variety of famous songs is more colorful than usual. Unlike the “ALCHEMY Tour” and “WAR TO END ALL WARS Tour”, which were heavy on new songs, there are many well-known songs, both classics and covers, which are really fun. The other day, the revisited album “OSAKA 2001 DAT MASTER (Zodiac 521)” with Mark was also very popular, but only three songs were covered with that press masterpiece. If you focus on Mark’s vocal songs, everything is different except “I’ll See the Light Tonight”.

これが[『INSPIRATION』時代のイングヴェイ・マルムスティーン。夏場から南米／北米で何回かショウを行っていたものの、アルバム発番後のツアー本編は日本からスタート。本作は『MALMO 1996』『TILBURG 1996』よりも初期にあたります。また1996年の来日と言えば、当店では『INSPIRATION JAPAN TOUR 1996（Shades 1370）』が定番で、今週は『NAGOYA 1996 DAT MASTER（Shades 1620）』も同時リリース。ここでジャパン・ツアーにズームしてみましょう。

以上、全５公演。当時は日本人気の絶頂にあったわけですが、『INSPIRATION』がカバーアルバムだったせいか来日は小規模で東名阪のみでした。東京では新宿（厚生年金会館）と中野（サンプラザ）の２ヶ所・３公演が行われ、本作は前者。来日全体のちょうどド真ん中にあたるコンサートでもありました。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、まさに極上の銘品。実は『NAGOYA 1996 DAT MASTER』『INSPIRATION JAPAN TOUR 1996（の大阪）』と同じ独自ルートでもたらされた初登場録音なのですが、本作こそが最高傑作。猛烈にクリア＆ダイレクトでして、クリスタル・クリアに透き通った空気感の中をレーザー光線のように鮮やかな演奏尾音が飛び交い、速射ギターの１粒１粒が綺麗に切り立つ。イングヴェイが全力で弾き倒しても美しさが揺るがないのです。ヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませるとほんのりわずかにホール鳴り成分も感じられるのですが、それとて公式盤『LIVE!!』と同レベル。濁りも曇りも起こさず、むしろマークの歌声を一層オペラティックに響かせ、荘厳ですらあるのです。
「まるでオフィシャル」と呼びたい美麗ダイレクト・サウンドで描かれるのは、実力／人気ともに絶大なNo.1シンガーとのフルショウ。このツアーは何と言っても貴重なカバー曲がポイントですので、元ネタもチェックしつつ整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。東京初日は「You Don’t Remember, I’ll Never Forget」や「Rising Force」がない代わりに、他公演では演奏していない「Icarus’ Dream Suite Op.4」を披露。せっかくのマーク入りですから歌物が多い方が良かったのですが、そうは言ってもこれだけ多彩な名曲群はいつも以上にカラフル。新曲偏重だった“ALCHEMY Tour”・“WAR TO END ALL WARS Tour”とは違ってクラシックスもカバーもお馴染みの名尾曲が多くて実に楽しい。先日はマークとの再来日アルバム『OSAKA 2001 DAT MASTER（Zodiac 521）』も大好評を博しましたが、あのプレス名盤との被りは３曲だけ。マークのヴォーカル曲に絞れば「I’ll See the Light Tonight」以外は全部異なるのです。

The main press 2CD is a new excavation live album that will be the best masterpiece of the first visit to Japan with the No. 1 singer of all time: Mark Balls. As I mentioned in the commentary, the next day’s performance also left a masterpiece video that represented that time. Therefore, it is also decided to include a special bonus video work that makes you imagine the “other side” of the main press 2CD.
This work was filmed at the audience shot of the performance “November 6, 1996: Nakano Sun Plaza” the day after the main press 2CD. The quality is just superb. I’m shooting from the rear stand seat looking at the center of the stage in front, but there is no obstruction to block the view. You can see all the points of the stage as much as you want. Moreover, the bold zoom is also amazing. If you pull it all the way, the whole stage will fit in your field of view, and if you approach from there, the screen will be filled with Mark and Yngwie’s waist up.
The sound is as wonderful as the superb view. As expected, it does not reach the main press 2CD, and although the stereo feeling may be disturbed in some places, the core that reaches straight is like a laser beam. Crisp and vivid, the hall sound amplifies the dynamism and does not hide the details. Both Yngwie’s light speed passage and Mark’s transcendent vibrato are thoroughly bathed.
Such superb recordings and scenic shots depict a full show that is similar to, but different from, the main press 2CD. Let’s organize them by comparing them here.

… and it looks like this. What makes me happy is “You Don’t Remember, I’ll Never Forget” and “Rising Force”. Both are standard songs, but for some reason they weren’t played on the main press 2CD (first day in Tokyo), even though they came to Japan with Mark. Especially the best is the encore last “Rising Force”. It’s one of the most famous songs with a catchy melody that is classically driven, but when Mark sings it, the balance between “catchy” and “classical” is reversed. A strict and solemn mood is pushed out to the front, and from that, many textures and hooks come to the fore. It will show off a masterpiece that expands the possibilities of the major songs by force.
Yngwie has discovered many famous singers, but when it comes to the strongest and best partner, there is no one other than Mark Boles. It is an audience set that allows you to experience the best of the two performances of the Japanese scene where the mark’s singing was roaring for the first time. The true value of the ultimate combination of neo-classical metal, please enjoy the two works together to your heart’s content.
本編プレス２CDは、歴代No.1シンガー：マーク・ボールズとの初来日の最高傑作となる新発掘ライヴアルバムです。その解説でも触れましたが、翌日公演は当時を代表する傑作映像も残されました。そこで、本編プレス２CDの”向こう側”をイメージさせてくれる映像作の特別ボー^ナス付属も決定です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは、本編プレス２CDの翌日「1996年11月６日：中野サンプラザ」公演のオーディエンス・ショットです。そのクオリティは、まさに絶景。ステージ中央を正面に見すえた後方スタンド席から撮影しているのですが、視界を遮る遮蔽物が一切なし。ステージのありとあらゆるポイントを見放題なのです。しかも果敢なズームも凄い。思いっきり引くとステージ全部が丸ごと視界に収まりつつ、そこから迫りまくるとマークやイングヴェイのウェストアップで画面が埋まるのです。
その超絶景に負けないサウンドも素晴らしい。さすがに本編プレス２CDには及びませんし、ところどころステレオ感が乱れる事もあるものの、真っ直ぐ届く芯はレーザー光線のよう。キリッと鮮やかでホール鳴りもダイナミズムを増幅させつつディテールを隠さない。イングヴェイの光速パッセージも、マークの超絶ヴィヴラートも細やかにたっぷりと浴びられるのです。
そんな極上録音＆絶景ショットで描かれるのは、本編プレス２CDとは似て非なるフルショウ。ここで比較しながら整理しておきましょう。
