「Visions Of The Emerald Beyond」リリース後、1975年5月3日ボストンはミュージック・ホールでの公演を オーディエンス録音(ランピンスキー・マスター)で収録。ナラダを核に、見事にグルーブするアンサンブルをリアルに体感できる、これ以上はない理想的なサウンドで収録されています！（残念なことにLila’s Dance 14:10でカット、Vision Is A Naked Sword 7:10～8:00で不規則なノイズ有）この日のライヴは、第2期から第3期に移行する過渡期にあたり、おなじみ第1期の、Jan Hammer、Jerry Goodman、Rick Laird、Billy Cobhamでのアンサンブルとはかなりかけ離れたものになっており、本来のスタイルとは違う管楽器の、スティーヴ・キンドラー（元ヤン・ハマー・グループ）、キャロル・シャイヴ（マクラフリン他、チック・コリア、アル・ディ・メオラ等々、数多くのセッションに参加）、ノーマ・ジーン・ベル（トミー・ボーリンやフランク・ザッパのバンドのほか、Pファンク・オールスターズにも参加）、プレミック・ラッセル・タブズ（サンタナやホイットニー・ヒューストンのレコーディングに参加）が参加している事により、この時期ならではの独特のアンサンブルを創りあげています。このゲイル・モラン脱退後（リターン・トゥ・フォーエヴァーに参加「Musicmagic」をリリース）ですがその頃のRTFがホーンをフィーチャーしたビッグ・バンド編成であった為、モラン脱退後となるこの時期、少なからずその影響を受けていたのかもしれません。時代的にもクロスオーヴァーからフュージョンへと呼び名が変わる時期であり、ロックも大仰なプログレから徐々にパンクやニューウェーヴの時代へと向かっていく状況だったりするので、マクラフリン自身もいろいろ試行錯誤を重ねていたと思われます。（ちなみにラルフ・アームストロングはマハヴィシュヌのあとジャン＝リュック・ポンティのグループに参加）殆ど1コードで繰り広げられ、絶妙なインター・プレイ満載のYou Know, You Knowを筆頭に、「Birds Of Fire」からSanctuary、「Apocalypse」からVision Is A Naked Sword、「Visions Of The Emerald Beyond」からEternity’s Breath、Lila’s Dance、「Electric Guitarist」からMy Foolish Heartと満遍なく取り上げた理想的なセットで繰り広げられる唯一無二のプレイの数々は全てが聴きどころになっています。まさに向かうべき方向が定まってないマハビシュヌの、究極にスリリングなアンサンンブルを貴重なラインナップで味わえる、ファン必携のアイテムがGravy Trainレーベルよりリリース決定です！

東海岸のテーパーとして名を馳せたDan Lampinskiが録音した、Mahavishnu Orchestraの1975年のBoston公演がリリースされた。テープカット（「Lila’s Dance」）やノイズ（「Vision Is A Naked Sword」）があるが上質なオーディエンス音源であり、すでにtorrentサイトで入手された方も多いだろう。アルバム『Visions Of The Emerald Beyond』リリース後のツアーで、編成としては第二期から第三期への移行期。従って、Jean-Luc Pontyは不在で、代わりに2人のバイオリニストと2人のサックス奏者を加えた、バンド史上最も大所帯でのステージとなっている。『Visions Of The Emerald Beyond』では、JazzやFusionというよりも「Lounge Music」風の清清しさや爽やかさを併せ持つ、透明感溢れるサウンドが印象的だった。しかし本公演はまったく逆で、Narada Michael Waldenの激しいリズムを中心としたサウンドで、例えるなら1973年頃のZappaバンドのようにも聞こえる。空間が音の洪水で満たされ、あまりにスリリングで息苦しいほどだ。結局、Mahavishnu Orchestraは1975年をピークに崩壊、John McLaughlinは1976年かは始めた「Shakti」へ傾倒していくことになる。
