A coupling tour with Glenn Hughes has also been announced, and Yngwie Malmsteen is suddenly attracting attention. A masterpiece video that allows you to witness the ongoing tour is now available.
This work was filmed on “July 20, 2022: Tilburg Performance (Netherlands)”. It is the superb view audience shot. Although it was last year’s show, the video itself is the latest thing that was released recently. Yngwie is currently in the middle of the “PARABELLUM Tour”. It’s been a while since the last report, “GLENSIDE 2021 (Shades 1437)”, and in order to explain the tour with Glen I introduced at the beginning, let’s review the whole activity (slightly wider).

This work, which vacuum-packed such a precious scene, is an eye-opening sight. Although it is a one-camera captured from the back of the venue, the field of view is ever-changing while looking straight ahead at the center of the stage. If you pull it all the way, you can see the whole stage view, and if you zoom in, Yngwie’s waist up will be drawn full screen.
What’s more, the camera work is terrifyingly skillful. As you know, Yngwie rampages the entire stage with his own face, moving violently from the right end to the left end and knocking it down. This work continues to pursue him while keeping him in the center of the screen. This looks like a matter of course, but it is a tremendously difficult task. In order to fit it in the center of the screen, it is impossible to read “how to move next”, but Yngwie’s action is not only intense but also capricious. Guitar phrases are often referred to as “finger habits”, but I wonder if the photographer of this work is familiar with “action habits” …
The skillful camerawork on a different dimension, the spectacular view of the first-floor arena audience below, and the miraculous position of being directly in front of the center of the stage. Furthermore, even the clear and direct sound that is suitable for such a transcendent scene … I can’t affirm because the details are not transmitted, but maybe it is a “shot of the people involved” rather than an audience. [A rare European performance in recent years] “It’s an amazing video, but it’s amazing because the content of the show is actually as good as it is.” First of all, as a major premise, this work is a band live. Recent Yngwie recital performances playing back recordings are not uncommon, but this work follows a regular band exactly. And the performance itself is in great shape. Year by year Yngwie’s performance has become more hit and miss, but this work is a big hit. Of course, the precise graininess of the 80’s is not required, but the rapid-fire momentum is tremendous, and the phrases flow smoothly without stagnation. How long has it been since you played so well? I’m doing well as I thought.
And the atmosphere of the venue that injects energy into Yngwie is also wonderful. “Poppodium 013”, which was the site, is a hall with a capacity of 3,000 people, which in Japan would be equivalent to TOKYO DOME CITY HALL, Grand Cube Osaka, or Nagoya Century Hall. The audience that can be seen from this work is at the shadow level under the eyes, but the density that is packed tightly in the box and the excitement that swings the arm to Yngwie’s every move is also transmitted. Apparently it looks like Yngwie’s solo performance, but it’s as exciting as a very popular festival.
A superb view that far surpasses that of an ordinary audience, camera work that you wouldn’t expect from an ordinary person, powerful direct sound… and a ferociously enthusiastic performance. The more you look at it, the hotter it gets, and the more you think about it, the more clever it is. Yngwie in recent years … No, I would like people who are lamenting that they have not been able to listen to good neo-classical music recently to touch it. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
★ Spectacular audience shot of “July 20, 2022: Tilburg performance”. A miraculous position where the center of the stage is directly in front of the spectacular view of the first floor arena audience while watching from the back of the venue. Moreover, the camera work that keeps Yngwie, who is bold and moves violently in the middle of the zoom, can only be thought of as a shot of a stakeholder. Yngwie’s own guitar is also clear, and the shooting and performance are rare video masterpieces in recent years.
グレン・ヒューズとのカップリング・ツアーも発表となり、にわかに注目が集まっているイングヴェイ・マルムスティーン。現在進行中のツアーを目撃できる傑作映像が登場です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2022年７月20日：ティルブルフ公演（オランダ）」。その絶景オーディエンス・ショットです。去年のショウではありますが、映像自体は最近になって公開された最新モノです。現在もイングヴェイは“PARABELLUM Tour”の真っ最中。前回レポート『GLENSIDE 2021（Shades 1437）』から間も開いていますし、冒頭でご紹介したグレンとのツアーをご説明するためにも（やや広めに）活動全景をおさらいしてみましょう。

【関係者ショットとしか思えない理想的な絶景映像】
これが現在までに公表されている2021年以降のスケジュール。つまり、新型コロナ・パンデミック以降の活動全景で、話題となっているグレンとのカップリング・ツアーは「北米#6」です。イングヴェイと言えばヨーロッパHRのイメージもありますが、現在の活動は北米偏重。欧州でのショウは2021年のセルビア、2022年のオランダ（本作）、それに今年の英国２公演くらいで他はすべて南北米。アジアやオセアニアもないという状況です。本作のティルブルフ公演は、2022年でもたった１回だけ実現した欧州公演でもあったわけです。
そんな貴重な現場を真空パックした本作は、目も醒める絶景。会場の後方から捉えたワンカメですが、ステージ中央を真っ正面に見すえつつ、その視界は変幻自在。思いっきり引くとステージ全景をすべて視界に収められ、ズームで迫るとイングヴェイのウェストアップが画面いっぱいに画かれるのです。
しかも、カメラワークが恐ろしく巧み。ご存知の通りイングヴェイはステージ全部を我が物顔で暴れ回り、右端から左端まで激しく移動しては弾き倒す。本作は、そんな彼を画面中央に据えたまま、ずーっと追い続けている。これは当たり前のように見えて、凄まじい至難の業。画面中央に収めるには「次にどう動くか」が読めていないと出来ないわけですが、イングヴェイのアクションは激しいだけではなく気紛れ。よくギターフレーズを「指グセ」と言いますが、まさか本作の撮影者は「アクション癖」まで熟知しているというのでしょうか……。
その異次元レベルに巧みなカメラワーク、１階アリーナ客が眼下に広がる絶景、ステージ中央が真っ正面という奇跡のポジション。さらに言えば、そんな超絶な光景に相応しいクリア＆ダイレクトな音声に至るまで……詳細が伝わっていないので断言は出来ませんが、もしかしたらオーディエンスと言うより「関係者ショット」なのかも知れません。
【貴重な欧州公演にして、近年希に見る名演】
何とも凄まじい映像ですが、実はショウ内容も負けていないからスゴい。まず大前提として、本作はバンド・ライヴ。最近のイングヴェイは録音をバックに弾き倒すリサイタル公演も珍しくありませんが、本作はきっちりレギュラーバンドを従えています。そして、演奏そのものが絶好調。年々イングヴェイの演奏は当たり外れが大きくなってきましたが、本作は大当たり。もちろん80年代の精密な粒立ちは求められないものの、速射の勢いは凄まじく、フレーズも淀みなく滑らかに溢れ出す。ここまでしっかり弾いてるのは何年ぶり？と思うほど好調です。
そして、そんなイングヴェイにエネルギーを注入する会場の雰囲気も素晴らしい。現場となった“Poppodium 013”は3,000人規模のホールで、日本で言うならTOKYO DOME CITY HALLやグランキューブ大阪、名古屋センチュリーホールくらいの会場。本作からうかがえる観客は眼下の影レベルではあるのですが、箱にビッシリと詰まった密度もイングヴェイの一挙手一投足に腕を振り上げる盛り上がりも伝わってくる。どうやらイングヴェイの単独公演のようですが、まるで大人気のフェスかのような盛り上がりなのです。
普通の客席を遙かに超える絶景、一般人とは思えない匠のカメラワーク、ド迫力のダイレクト・サウンド……そして、猛烈な弾きっぷりの大熱演。見れば見るほど熱くなり、考えれば考えるほど巧みな映像傑作です。近年のイングヴェイ……いや、最近は良いネオクラを聴けてないとお嘆きの方にこそ触れていただきたいズバ抜けた１枚。どうぞ、存分にお楽しみください。
