While embodying the dreams of progressive rock fans, the existence itself was a magnificent experiment, “8 people YES”. Introducing the Nippon Broadcasting System Pro Shot, which is a special version of the representative video.
This work was shot at “May 9, 1991 Denver Performance”. That multi-camera pro shot. Speaking of “UNION TOUR” pro shots, the mountain view performance, also known as the official work “UNION LIVE”, is the symbol, but the Denver performance is second only. It has been officially announced as a bonus DVD for the limited edition of “UNION LIVE”, and the broadcast version “DENVER 1991” was very well received at our shop. This work is also the same Denver performance, but the contents are completely different. It is a separate edited version in which completely different angles pop out one after another. Before the content that interests me, first of all, the position of the show. Let’s look back on the whole picture of the world tour of the century together with the symbolic mountain view performance.

This is the real image of “8 people YES” that actually existed in 1991/1992. The official “UNION LIVE” was also performed in the United States, but the timing is quite different. The Denver performance of this work was the sixth performance of “North America # 1b” immediately after the release of the album “Crystal”.
Well, the main subject. This show has become a big standard for full pro shots that were broadcast on TV, but a different edited version was broadcast as a special program “‘ROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DATES” of a certain satellite broadcasting station. This work is a DVD version of the other broadcast version. And this broadcast was partly regarded as a “mysterious treasure”. The reason is the content. I couldn’t mention the place name or time in the program, but it was a video that even people who knew Denver Pro Shot had never seen. If you compare the two types of broadcasts closely, they will have the same performance, and the same cut will appear, but that is only a few. Normally, even if it is called a separate editing pro shot, the switching timing is different and the undisclosed angle is inserted a little, but this broadcast is completely different. I haven’t measured the time, but I feel that about 3/4 is a different angle. It was such a “separate work” that it wouldn’t be strange to have a maniac who was enthusiastic about “Isn’t it Denver !?”
This work is a DVD version of another version, but another point is quality. As was the case with our “DENVER 1991”, it was hard to say that the Denver Pro Shot so far was the best in terms of image quality. However, this work can be proudly declared as “completely official class!”. As usual, it is digitized directly from the finest master by a core recording enthusiast, but the clear image quality and freshness in every corner are images as if they were caused from an official laser disc. It’s beauty.
It is a historical heritage that should be permanently preserved and pressed in terms of quality, editing, and value, but the only disappointing thing is the recording time. I recorded the broadcast without leaking it, but the broadcast frame itself was as short as about 1 hour and 25 minutes, and it was not a full show. This will change the story if it is a completely different performance from Denver, but even if it is a different angle, it is difficult to press it if there is a complete version of the same show that lasts more than 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Anyway, there is no doubt that this work is the highest quality professional shot after the official work “UNION LIVE”. Even though it is short, 1 hour and 25 minutes is usually a full live size, and the completeness of the separate editing and the super high quality visual beauty are better than “DENVER 1991”. Originally, this work should have been the centerpiece of the official box “UNION 30 LIVE”. A masterpiece pro shot so far. Please enjoy it carefully.

The show has traditionally become a major standard for TV broadcast professional shots, but this work is a separate edited version in which completely different angles pop out one after another. The difference is not a hamper, but the same angle is just a little. It is another work called an angle that differs by about 3/4 depending on the experience. Moreover, the video quality is completely official. Unlike the conventional version, it was incompletely recorded, so I missed the press, but the 1 hour and 25 minutes is still more than enough. It is a masterpiece with all the editing quality, visual beauty, and preciousness.

プログレ・ファンの夢を一身に体現しつつ、存在自体が壮大な実験でもあった“８人YES”。その代表映像の特別版となる日本放送プロショットが登場です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「1991年５月９日デンバー公演」。そのマルチカメラ・プロショットです。“UNION TOUR”のプロショットと言えば、何と言ってもオフィシャル作品『UNION LIVE』としても知られるマウンテン・ビュー公演こそが象徴ですが、デンバー公演はそれに次ぐもの。『UNION LIVE』限定盤のボーナスDVDとして公式化されたこともありますし、当店でも放送版『DENVER 1991』が大好評を博しました。本作もまた同じデンバー公演ではあるのですが、中身はまるで違う。まったく違うアングルが次々と飛び出す別編集版なのです。その気になる内容の前に、まずはショウのポジション。象徴マウンテン・ビュー公演とも併せ、世紀のワールド・ツアーの全体像から振り返ってみましょう。

これが1991年／1992年に実在していた“８人YES”の実像。公式『UNION LIVE』もアメリカ公演だったわけですが、時期はだいぶ異なる。本作のデンバー公演はアルバム『結晶』発売直後となる「北米#1b」の６公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
さて、本題。このショウはテレビ放送されたフル・プロショットが大定番となってきたわけですが、それとは異なる別編集版が某衛星放送局の特番“’ROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DATES”として放送された。本作は、その別放送バージョンをDVD化したものなのです。そして、この放送は一部で“謎の秘宝”ともされていました。その理由は内容。番組内で地名も時期も触れられなかったのもありますが、それ以上にデンバー・プロショットを知っている人でも観た事のない映像だったのです。２種の放送をよくよく比べてみると同じ演奏ですし、同じカットも出てくるのですが、それはわずか。普通、別編集プロショットと言ってもスイッチングのタイミングが違ったり、未公開アングルがちょっと差し込まれるくらいなのですが、この放送は全然違う。時間を計ったわけではありませんが、体感で３／４くらいが別アングル。「デンバーじゃない!?」「第３のプロショットなのか！」と色めき立つマニアがいてもおかしくないくらい「別作品」だったのです。
本作はその別バージョンをDVD化しているわけですが、もう１つのポイントがクオリティ。当店の『DENVER 1991』でもそうでしたが、これまでのデンバー・プロショットは画質的に極上都は言いがたかった。しかし、本作は堂々と胸を張って「完全オフィシャル級！」と断言できる。いつものように、コアな記録マニアによる極上マスターからダイレクトにデジタル化されているのですが、その隅々まで鮮明な画質も、瑞々しい鮮度も、まるで公式レーザー・ディスクから起こしたかのような映像美なのです。
クオリティ的にも、編集的にも、貴重度からも永久保存プレス化すべき歴史遺産なのですが、たった１つだけ残念だったのが収録時間。放送を漏らさず記録してはいるのですが、その放送枠自体が約１時間25分と短く、フルショウではなかったのです。これでデンバーとはまったく違う別公演なら話も変わるのですが、別アングルとは言え、２時間40分以上に及ぶ同じショウの完全版が存在するとなるとプレス化は難しい……。
ともあれ、本作がオフィシャル作品『UNION LIVE』に次ぐプロショットの最高級品なのは間違いありません。短いとは言っても１時間25分は普通でしたらフルライヴ・サイズですし、別編集の完成度と超ハイクオリティな映像美による見応えは『DENVER 1991』よりの上を行く。本来であれば、本作こそが公式ボックス『UNION 30 LIVE』の目玉になるべきだった。それほどまでの大傑作プロショット。どうぞ、じっくりとご堪能ください。
