The legendary recording of the absolute master who loved YES has been upgraded! Press 2CD that permanently preserves the sound reborn by the newly excavated Omoto Master is now available.
The legendary recording recorded “October 6, 1978 Inglewood performance”. It is the transcendental audience recording. Speaking of YES, along with ZEP and Stones, it is Mike Millard’s favorite band, and he left many masterpieces at this time as well. Speaking of the “TORMATO” era, Millard’s masterpiece “LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT (Virtuoso 464/465)”, which symbolizes the end of the 70’s, also reigns. This work is a new masterpiece that can be said to be its sister work. To explain the meaning, let’s first unravel the schedule at that time and confirm each other’s positions.

This is YES in 1978/1979. There was only one studio work, “TORMATO”, but the tour was divided into a regular album tour “TORMATO Tour” and a 10th anniversary tour “TEN TRUE SUMMERS Tour”. “LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT” was a masterpiece of the latter, but this work is the masterpiece of the former. It was the 8th performance of “North America # 1b” right after the album was released.

[Representative recording of the Tormato era is greatly upgraded by Omoto Master] As some of you may have noticed, this day’s mirrored recording is not the first time. Known as one of the best masterpieces on the tour for a long time, “Amity 389” has been loved as a staple in our shop. However, the highest number of existing ones so far is 1st Gene. This work is the ultimate Gene product that has been digitized directly from Mirrored’s Omoto Master Cassette. First, the longest record in terms of scale. The ending scene is 13 seconds long, and the greeting of the end of the performance and the BGM of the venue are well recorded. On the contrary, the start scene was 3 seconds shorter (probably the start timing at the time of transfer), but that was complemented by the existing one. This work is the longest record that is longer than any version.
Of course, no matter how long it is, it’s just a bonus. The truly important value of this work lies in the sound itself that goes through the whole story. This is a wonderful thing that the eyes are already eye-opening and the scales fall from the ears. If you already have “Amity 389”, please compare it. The air of the sound of the hall clears up quickly and is transparent to the crystal clear, and the details of the fine parts are shining. The core also extends straight like a laser beam, and the edges are clear. Furthermore, the sense of stability is another class. No dubbing mistakes were seen in the previous version, but it is also built up by the fact that a slight flutter occurred when listening to this work after experiencing it. To be honest, there is no point in giving each and every detail in this way. Roughly speaking in total, if the conventional version is “the best audience”, this work is “completely official class”. It’s so different that it will change in just one generation.

[A beautiful sister work that concludes the golden 70’s] The only possible rival for this sound was “LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT”. In 1978, there were also the finest soundboard albums “WEMBLEY 1978 FINAL NIGHT (Virtuoso 379/380)” and “DEFINITIVE RICHFIELD 1978 (Virtuoso 387/388)”. “Mirrored Magic” is only for the absolute masters.

その伝説録音に記録されていたのは「1978年10月６日イングルウッド公演」。その超絶級オーディエンス録音です。YESと言えば、ZEPやストーンズと並んでマイク・ミラードのフェイバリット・バンドであり、この時期も数多くの名作を残しました。特に『TORMATO』時代と言えば、70年代末期を象徴するミラードの名作『LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT（Virtuoso 464/465）』も君臨。本作は、その姉妹作と言っても良い新名盤なのです。その意味をご説明するためにも、まずは当時のスケジュールを紐解き、互いのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが1978年／1979年のYES。スタジオ作品としては『TORMATO』一作のみでしたが、ツアーは通常アルバム・ツアーの“TORMATO Tour”と、10周年ツアー“TEN TRUE SUMMERS Tour”に分かれていました。『LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT』は後者の代表作だったわけですが、それに対して本作は前者の最高傑作。アルバム発売直後となる「北米#1b」の８公演目にあたるコンサートでした。

【トーマト時代の代表録音が大元マスターで大幅アップグレード】
もうお気づきの方もいらっしゃると思いますが、この日のミラード録音は初出ではない。古くからツアー屈指の名作として知られ、当店でも『Amity 389』が定番として愛されてきました。しかし、これまでの既発は最高でも1stジェネ。本作は、ミラードの大元マスター・カセットからダイレクトにデジタル化された究極ジェネの銘品なのです。まず、尺からして過去最長を更新。エンディング・シーンが13秒長く、終演の挨拶や会場BGMまでしっかりと記録されています。逆に開演シーンは３秒短かった（恐らくトランスファーの際の開始タイミングでしょう）のですが、そこは既発で補完。本作はどのバージョンよりも長い最長記録です。
もちろん、いかに最長であってもそれはあくまでオマケ。真に重大な本作の価値は、全編を貫くサウンドそのものにあります。これがもう、目を見張り、耳からウロコが落ちる素晴らしさ。既発『Amity 389』をお持ちの方はぜひ比較して頂きたい。ホール鳴りの空気感がサッと晴れ渡ってクリスタル・クリアに透き通り、微細部のディテールまでキラッキラ。芯もレーザー光線のようにまっすぐ伸び、エッジもクッキリとしている。さらに安定感も別物級。従来盤も決してダビング・ミスは見られなかったのですが、本作を体験した後では聴くとわずかなフラッターが発生していた事にも築かされる。正直言って、こうして細かな点を１つひとつ挙げていってもキリがない。ざっくりトータルで表現しますと、従来盤が「極上オーディエンス」だとするなら、本作は「完全オフィシャル級」。わずか１世代でこうも変わるのかというほどに違うのです。

【黄金の70年代を締めくくる絶世の美姉妹作】
このサウンドのライバルになり得るとすれば、やはり『LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT』しかない。1978年には極上サウンドボード・アルバム『WEMBLEY 1978 FINAL NIGHT（Virtuoso 379/380）』や『DEFINITIVE RICHFIELD 1978（Virtuoso 387/388）』もあるわけですが、ライン的ではありつつ同時に客録ならではの美も湛えた「ミラード・マジック」は、絶対名手だけのものなのです。
そうなると、気になるのは『LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT』とは似て非なる1978年版のセット。ここで比較しながら整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。基本的には『LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT』に酷似しており、中盤には約26分の“THE BIG MEDLEY”も繰り出されます。異なるのはメドレーの後でして、10周年ツアーで取り上げられていた大曲「And You And I」はなく、代わり（？）に当時の新曲「Don’t Kill The Whale」「Madrigal」「On The Silent Wings Of Freedom」を披露。特に後者２曲は当時ならではのレパートリーであり、いかにも新作アルバム・ツアーらしいカラーが美味しいのです。
ひと繋がりで語られる事の多い“TORMATO Tour”と“TEN TRUE SUMMERS Tour”。本作と『LONG BEACH ARENA 1979 1ST NIGHT』は、そんな２つのツアーを象徴する絶世の美姉妹なのです。これまでもツアー屈指と謳われた名録音が大元マスターによって大幅アップグレードを果たし、最高傑作へと登り詰めた新名盤。絶対名手のマジカル・サウンドを永久に残すプレス２CDで存分にご堪能ください。
