The precious video that conveys the scene of “GOING FOR THE ONE Tour” is an upgrade. Introducing a DVD that fully transfers the visual beauty of 8mm film.
Such a valuable image is drawn by “October 27, 1977 London performance”. Audience shots taken at the traditional venue “Empire Pool (now Wembley Arena)”. This video itself has been known for a long time, but recently it was discovered by a master who has significantly upgraded. In response to Alan White’s obituary, it was released in mourning. Before the quality you care about, first of all, the position of the show. Let’s look back at the big picture of the world tour where the “five golden people” have reunited.
<< July 15 “Ultimate” release >>
・ July 30-September 3: North America # 1 (32 performances)
・ September 17th-October 9th: North America # 2 (21 performances)
・ October 24-November 8: UK (12 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ November 11-December 6: Europe (22 performances)
This is YES in 1977. With an extremely simple structure of “America → Europe”, 1/3 of the European edition is from the home country of England. The beginning was Wembley’s 6 consecutive performances, and what was sealed in this work was the concert that corresponds to the 4th performance.
8mm filmed at such a show has long been familiar to collectors. Initially, it was monochrome and dubbed into video, but in 2015, a color master was discovered. It has been loved as a 3-disc set “WEMBLEY ARENA 1977 4TH NIGHT (Amity 329)” with full live at our shop. Of course, since it is 8 mm, it is a collection of short cuts, but even so, one cut and one cut are taken longer by the 70’s standard, and it is overwhelming that it is a few meters from the members. As of 2015, it was a masterpiece that surpassed the “common sense of 8mm in the 70’s” in terms of both video quality and shooting skill.
However, this time the master has transcended even that finest quality. The key to the upgrade is the technology of 2022. The film itself is (probably) the same as it was in 2015, but this time it has been re-transferred and further refined by digital mastering. The result is amazing. In the 2015 transfer, fine dust and small scratches were scattered as black spots peculiar to the film. Of course, until now it was thought that it was a film, so it was natural, but this edition does not have it. Fresh, glossy and smooth from one end of the screen to the other. Even if I stare at John Anderson’s costume that floats in white, I can’t find any of the black dots.
Moreover, it is bright. As expected, the lighting technology of 1977 is not as modern as it is today, but its light beam is sharper and sharper than the 2015 version, and the amount of light itself is strong. This seems to be a mastering effect, but the point is that it’s not just the highlights that are emphasized and the details are crushed, it’s just natural. It is a natural beauty as if the performance of the on-site light 45 years ago was improved. Furthermore, the sound has been upgraded to a clear sound with plenty of stereo feeling. The 2022 archive technology is a finish that makes you wonder if it has evolved so far.
As mentioned above, it takes about 27 minutes in total length by collecting short films. The set analysis is meaningless, so I will omit it, but the rich satisfaction of the powerfully upgraded visual beauty cannot be replaced by anything. It was a few years ago that 8mm film was never looked at and was discovered as a “historical material”. However, nowadays, it has come to the point where it can be established as “entertainment”. The brave appearances of Alain and Chris Squire make me excited, but more than that, I can immerse myself in a “beautiful video work”. One piece that is a vintage of 1977 and is also the most advanced in 2022. Please enjoy it carefully.
