The Who, who had released a masterpiece album called “WHO” in 2019, stopped working due to the corona wreck that broke out the following year. However, in 2022, the tour in the United States was finally announced from spring. In addition, the annual “TEENAGE CANCER TRUST” concert at the Royal Albert Hall with Roger’s support, which was also suspended due to Corona, has finally resumed.
The latest concert that was just held on March 22nd was made into a DVD. It is an audience shot taken from the seat next to the stage of Albert Hall, but the angle is effective and it is a very easy-to-see live image.
Originally, a tour to promote “WHO” should be held in 2020, and an acoustic show was held in February, before Corona became a pandemic. This time it was an unplugged show by the members and band formation at that time, and like the upcoming American tour, it was also a show that did something that could not be done two years ago.

As has already been talked about, the early stages of the live are repeated replays. It seemed that this was due to the stage after a long time (and old Roger and Pete), but it seems likely that Roger’s earmoni was occasionally complaining about something wrong.
Moreover, the redo happenings in “Squeeze Box” and “The Kids Are Alright” are extremely peaceful and the audience is rather excited. Whatever you say, the exchange between Roger and Pete here is completely comical.
And in “Break The News”, even if Roger stopped singing in the middle due to the problem of unpleasantness, the author and Pete’s younger brother Simon sang to the end, and again full chorus singing again, this time Roger also sings to the end. It’s a development, and it’s interesting because it’s showing excitement again.
What’s more, the performance of the scene where the songs recorded in “WHO” centering on the same song are shown together is a finish that can not help raising expectations for the tour. In addition to the song that was played on the acoustic gig two years ago, this time the album “Beads on One String” was premiered live and dedicated to the Ukrainian people.

The conventional numbers are also unplugged but very powerful, and the atmosphere of the past is revived wonderfully in “Tattoo” and so on. Even more surprising is the new approach that Roger sang to Pete’s lead vocal “Eminence Front” and even to his solo album “Let My Love Open The Door”. It will be something that makes us expect the development of.
And at the end, the photographer’s exquisite angle captures Roger and Pete from the exquisite angle to the point where they get off the stage. A superb audience shot where you can thoroughly enjoy the latest unplugged live that you can’t help but expect the activities of The Who in the future!

2019年に「WHO」という大傑作アルバムをリリースしておきながら、翌年に勃発したコロナ禍によって活動が停止してしまったザ・フー。しかし2022年を迎え、春から遂にアメリカでのツアーがアナウンスされました。さらに毎年恒例でありながら、これまたコロナのせいで中断していたロジャー支援によるロイヤル・アルバート・ホールでのイベント「TEENAGE CANCER TRUST」コンサートも遂に再開。
3月22日に行われたばかりの最新コンサートをさっそくDVD化しました。アルバート・ホールのステージ横の席から敢行されたオーディエンスショットなのですが、そのアングルが功を奏して大変に見やすいライブ映像となっています。
本来であれば2020年に「WHO」をプロモートするツアーが行われるはずで、まだコロナがパンデミック化する前だった2月にアコースティック・ショーが行われていました。今回はその時のメンバーかつバンドフォーメーションによるアンプラグド・ショーとなっていて、これから始まるアメリカ・ツアーと同様、二年前にできなかったことを行ったショーでもありました。

既に話題となっているように、ライブの序盤は演奏のやり直しを繰り返しています。これが久々のステージ（しかも高齢なロジャーとピート）ということが要因かと思われたのですが、どうやらロジャーのイヤモニがときおり不調を訴えていた可能性が高いようです。
しかも「Squeeze Box」や「The Kids Are Alright」でのやり直しハプニングが極めて和やかな雰囲気で観客もむしろ盛り上がっている。こう言っては何ですが、ここでのロジャーとピートのやり取りは完全に漫才の域。
そして「Break The News」ではイヤモニの問題からロジャーが途中で歌うのをやめてもなお、作者でピートの弟サイモンが最後まで歌い切った挙句、もう一度フルコーラス歌い直して今度はロジャーも最後まで歌うという展開となり、これがまた盛り上がりを見せているから面白い。
それに何と言っても同曲を中心とした「WHO」収録曲をまとめて披露する場面の演奏はどれもツアーへの期待が膨らまずにはいられない仕上がり。二年前のアコースティック・ギグで演奏されていた曲に加え、今回は同アルバムから「Beads on One String」がライブ初披露され、それをウクライナの人たちに捧げています。

従来のナンバーに関してもアンプラグドながら非常に力強く、「Tattoo」などは往年の雰囲気が見事に蘇っている。さらに驚かされるのが、ピートのリードボーカルで歌われていた「Eminence Front」さらには彼のソロアルバムに入っていた「Let My Love Open The Door」までロジャーが歌ってみせたという新たなアプローチも今後の展開を期待させてくれるものでしょう。
そして最後は撮影者の絶妙なアングルでロジャーとピートがステージを降りるところまで絶妙なアングルで捉えられています。これからのザ・フーの活動を期待せずにはいられない最新のアンプラグド・ライブをじっくり楽しめる極上オーディエンスショット！
