Japan tour of the 45th anniversary of the debut that was finally completed. A superb live set that conveys the highlight performance is now available.
The highlight performance was held on “July 21, 2023: Nippon Budokan”. It is an audience 3-disc set with the super-superb original recording on DISC 1-2 and the superb view shot on DISC 3. We have already introduced the first report album “OSAKA 2023 (Uxbridge 1968)” at our shop, and this week the valuable board “NAGOYA 2023 IEM MATRIX (Uxbridge 1975)” also appeared. First of all, let’s check the positional relationship of each in the schedule of arrival to Japan.

All 8 performances above. While “OSAKA 2023” released the day before was just the turning point, this work’s Nippon Budokan is the final day. It was just a big stage to decorate the end. This work is the highest peak set of such a scene with a full live album and video. Let’s introduce each one individually.

[DISC 1-2: Quality and reality of official works] The first thing to appear is the main full live album of this work. It is an original master only for this work recorded from “Arena B3 Block”, but this is a ridiculously beautiful recording. There is only a highlight, and a famous recording artist who represents Japan participates. We also offer various masterpiece recordings at our shop, but this work is No. 1 among them, and it is actually the finest quality with “super”. I can judge that it is an audience recording when I listen to the clapping that spreads vividly, but I do not think that the essential performance sound and vocals are customer recordings. The dense and thick core has no dust such as a sense of distance, and the details are super delicate. Even the overlapping chorus work does not mix, and you can feel the voice quality and tune of each person.
And the hall rumble is too exquisite. The coating itself is so faint that you can barely notice it when you listen carefully with headphones, but the coating power is tremendous. The guitar shines lustrously, and if the vocals are terrattera, the synths pour down. I have lined up only onomatopoeia, but the point is that the voice has a “light” that should not be there. Of course, it would be ruined if the edges were rounded or muddy due to the ringing, but rather the ringing made it feel more transparent. A visual analogy is a wine glass. Optically, an empty glass should be the most transparent, but you can feel the brilliance when you pour wine into it. In the same way, the ringing makes each note shine, making it feel even more crystal clear.

[DISC 3: Stunning video that monopolizes the stage] The next DISC 3 is the video version. It is shot looking down from the stand seat on the right side of the stage, but this is a tremendous view. After all, far from there being no shadows from the front seats, the audience was barely visible, and only the stage occupied the field of view. However, since we carefully select and introduce superb view images in our shop, even if you repeat the superb view / superb view, you may think that it is “the usual feeling”, but the thoroughness of this work is not normal. A few times after Hong, the arena customers in front of the stage enter the frame, so you can tell it’s a live performance, but even if you say, “Actually, it’s a rehearsal with no audience,” it’s “only the stage video”.
What’s more, the camera work is skillful. The zoom is not so bold, and while using the full view of the stage, it focuses on “entanglement between members” rather than “each person’s expression”. This is also an exquisite experience. Zooming and scrolling are smooth and smooth, with zero blurring, so you can follow the highlights with the naked eye, just like the concentration of a human being.

Toto has visited Japan 18 times in 43 years since his legendary first visit. The highlight was the 13th Nippon Budokan. This work is a 3-disc set that spells out the whole story with a transcendental original recording and a superb view image of the naked eye. Definitely the masterpiece of the Japan tour … No, considering that the North American tour was a short set with JOURNEY, this work may be “2023 TOTO’s masterpiece”. A new masterpiece from Japan that stands on such a horizon. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

★ A 3-disc audience set with super-superb original recordings of “July 21, 2023: Nippon Budokan” + scenic shots. The main full recording (DISC 1-2) is a ridiculously beautiful recording, and the strength of the core and the fine details are official works. The video version (DISC 3) is also a superb view where you can monopolize the stage with zero obstructions, and you can fully experience the highlight performance.

ついに完遂されたデビュー45周年のジャパン・ツアー。そのハイライト公演を伝える極上ライヴセットが登場です。
そのハイライト公演が行われたのは「2023年７月21日：日本武道館」。その超極上オリジナル録音をDISC 1-2に、絶景ショットをDISC 3に配したオーディエンス３枚組です。当店ではすでに第一報アルバム『OSAKA 2023（Uxbridge 1968）』をご紹介していますし、今週は貴重盤『NAGOYA 2023 IEM MATRIX（Uxbridge 1975）』も登場。まずは、来日スケジュールでそれぞれの位置関係を確認してみましょう。

以上の全８公演。前日リリースの『OSAKA 2023』はちょうど折り返し地点だったのに対し、本作の日本武道館は最終日。まさに最後を飾る大舞台だったわけです。本作は、そんな現場をフル・ライヴアルバムと映像の最高峰セット。それでは、それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。

【DISC 1-2：公式作品ばりのクオリティとリアリティ】
まず登場するのは、本作のメインとなるフル・ライヴアルバム。「アリーナＢ３ブロック」から録音された本作だけのオリジナル・マスターなのですが、これがとんでもない美録音なのです。ハイライトだけあって日本を代表するような名録音家が参加。当店にも様々な傑作録音をご提供頂いておりますが、本作はその中でもズバ抜けたNo.1でして、実際「超」付きの極上クオリティ。生々しく広がる手拍子を聴くとオーディエンス録音だと判断はできるのですが、肝心要の演奏音とヴォーカルは客録とは思えない。密度たっぷりで極太な芯には距離感など微塵もなく、ディテールも超繊細。幾重にも重なるコーラスワークでさえ混じり合わず、１人ひとりの声質や節回しまで感じ取れるほどです。
そして絶品すぎるのがホール鳴り。それ自体はヘッドフォンで耳を澄ませてやっと気づくくらいうっすらとしているのですが、そのコーティング力は絶大。ギターは艶っ艶に輝き、ヴォーカルもテラッテラならシンセはキラキラと降り注ぐ。オノマトペばかり並べてしまいましたが、要は音声には本来ないはずの「光」を宿らせている。もちろん、鳴りによってエッジが丸くなったり濁ったりしたら台無しなのですが、むしろ鳴りのお陰で透明感が増して感じられる。視覚的に喩えるならワイングラス。光学的には空のグラスが最も透明なはずですが、ワインを注いだ方が輝きを実感できる。それと同じように、鳴りによって１音１音に輝きが宿り、より一層クリスタル・クリアに感じられるのです。

【DISC 3：ステージを独り占めする絶景映像】
続くDISC 3は映像篇。ステージ右側のスタンド席から見下ろし気味に撮影されているのですが、これがもの凄い絶景。何しろ前方席の影が一切ないどころか、観客の姿がほとんど映らず、ステージだけが視界を占領する。もっとも、当店では絶景映像を厳選してご紹介しているので絶景・絶景と繰り返しても「いつもの感じ」と思われてしまうかも知れませんが、本作の徹底ぶりは普通じゃない。ホンの数回、ステージ前のアリーナ客がちろっとフレームに入るので本番ライヴだと分かるものの、「実は無観客のリハーサルだよ」と言われても信じてしまいそうなほど「ステージだけ映像」なのです。
しかも、カメラワークも巧み。ズームはそれほど果敢ではなく、ステージ全景を多用しつつ「１人ひとりの表情」よりも「メンバー同士の絡み」を中心に押さえている。これが絶妙な体験感覚でもある。ズームもスクロールもじんわり、ヌルッとした滑らかさでブレがゼロなので、ちょうど人間の集中力に近い肉眼感覚で見どころを追ってくれるのです。

伝説の初来日から43年で18回の来日を果たしたTOTO。そのハイライトは、13度目となる日本武道館でした。本作は、その一部始終を超絶級のオリジナル録音と肉眼感覚の絶景映像で綴った３枚組です。間違いなくジャパン・ツアーの最高傑作……いや、北米ツアーがJOURNEYとのカップリングでショート・セットだった事考え合わせると、本作は「2023年TOTOの最高傑作」となるのかも知れません。そんな地平に立つ日本発の新名盤。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分に味わい尽くしてください。
