The masterpieces “DAMN THE TORPEDOES” and “HARD PROMISES” shined on platinum albums in quick succession, and Tom Petty & THE HEARTBREAKERS in 1981 enjoyed the heyday of the wind. The original master of the legendary master Mike Millard who tells the scene is excavated.
What is recorded in this work is “June 30, 1981 Inglewood Performance” with Stevie Nicks as a guest. It is the best audience recording. Mirrored’s Tom Petty recording is the second work after “COSTA MESA 1990 (Zion-162)”, but this time it is even more delicious in the early 80’s. Let’s immediately look back on the schedule at that time and check from the position of the show.

《May 5th release of “HARD PROMISES”》
・ June 7-July 8: North America # 1 (18 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ July 16-August 18: North America # 2 (24 performances)
・ September 6: Sacramento performance
・ September 15th-October 8th: North America # 3 (15 performances)

This is Tom Petty in 1981. In 1980, the year before, he visited Europe and Oceania, including the legendary first visit to Japan, but in 1981 it changed. It wasn’t a world tour, it was limited to North America, and I was on the circuit for about 4 months. The Inglewood performance of this work is the beginning of that. It was the 14th performance of “North America # 1”.
This work recorded at such a show is truly an excellent audience recording. As expected, the strength of the core centered on the guitar and the delicate details down to the fine parts are truly wonderful. However, the taste is a little different from the usual mirrored work. The cause seems to have been the setup of the venue. Speaking of “THE FORUM”, it’s the main battlefield for Millard, and it’s like a garden at home where every band / artist has made masterpieces. The ticket for the day was in the 4th row, and it was about “Isn’t it a bit of a sweet spot?”, But I was surprised when I entered. The front two rows were crushed to expand the stage, and it was in the second row.
Usually close and lucky! However, it was too close for a particular recording artist. The biggest problem is that it is too close to security, not to mention the wraparound of the response. It seems that the early 80’s was a tough time for recording, and it was a cold sweat that Millard, who was a 100-year-old warrior, would also be arrested. Moreover, PA is immediately overhead. He couldn’t point in the direction of PA with the microphone hidden, and he picked up the wraparound.
The above process is the testimony of Jim R, who was watching with Millard. If you ask me, it certainly sounds like that, but it’s because it’s a mirrored standard that is said to be “miracle and natural” and “more than a sound board for the time being”. If you are an ordinary recording person, it is the highest level of masterpiece whether you can record one in a few years, but rather it is a beautiful recording that is so fresh that you can sigh “Is this sound not satisfied?” is.
What is drawn with such a beautiful sound is a full show that gives you confidence and momentum as a platinum artist. Speaking of Tom in the 80’s, it is customary to refer to the traditional official board “PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!” (Although it may be a little difficult). As always, let’s compare and organize.

● SHELTER era (4 songs)
・ American Girl: American Girl / Breakdown
・ Your Gonna Get It! : Listen To Her Heart (★) / I Need to Know
● BACKSTREET / MCA era (9 songs)
・ Destruction: Here Comes My Girl (★) / Don’t Do Me Like That (★) / Even The Losers (★) / Refugee
・ Hard Promise: A Thing About You (★) / The Waiting / A Woman in Love (It’s Not Me) (★) / Insider (co-starring Stevie Nicks) / Kings Road (★)
● Other covers (5 songs)
・ Cry To Me (★) / Don’t Bring Me Down / Needles and Pins (co-starring Stevie Nicks) / Shout
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official edition “PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!”.

… And it looks like this. Although it is widely selected, the axis is clearly the concentration and reduction of the two blockbuster works “DAMN THE TORPEDOES” and “HARD PROMISES”. Not only the representative songs that became standard after that, but also “A Thing About You” and “Kings Road” unique to the 1980s, “Insider” that will be sealed for the next 25 years, and Solomon Burke’s super rare cover “Cry Delicious numbers such as “To Me” are also studded.
And a surprise that adds glamor to such a set is Stevie Nicks who participated as a guest! Speaking of Stevie in 1981, Tom’s solo debut work “BELLA DONNA” made a monster hit, but this work was one month before that. Of course, already a big star of FLEETWOOD MAC, she was greeted with great enthusiasm and listened to her wonderful duet with her two songs “Insider” and “Needles and Pins”.
It is a famous live album of the legendary master Millard who captured Tom Petty who was enjoying the golden age. Great sound, precious masterpieces, and a gorgeous competition with Stevie Nicks …. A 2-disc set that is endless to listen to at every point. Please enjoy it carefully.

★ The best audience recording of “June 30, 1981 Inglewood Performance”. It is a brand that was directly digitized from the legendary master Mike Millard’s Omoto Master, and it is a beautiful recording with the strength of the core centered on the guitar and the delicate details down to the fine parts. The show is a style in which the two blockbuster works “DAMN THE TORPEDOES” and “HARD PROMISES” are concentrated and reduced, and delicious covers are studded. Stevie Nicks will be a guest on “Insider” and “Needles and Pins” to listen to a great duet.

American Girl/Breakdown
Listen To Her Heart(★)/I Need to Know
Here Comes My Girl(★)/Don’t Do Me Like That(★)/Even The Losers(★)/Refugee
A Thing About You(★)/The Waiting/A Woman in Love (It’s Not Me)(★)/Insider(スティーヴィー・ニックス共演)/Kings Road(★)
・Cry To Me(★)/Don’t Bring Me Down/Needles and Pins(スティーヴィー・ニックス共演)/Shout
※注:「★」印は公式盤『PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!』
