THIN LIZZY in 1983 was running toward the end with John Sykes. Introducing a new excavation live album where you can experience the final stage.
It is “Kaiserslautern performance on September 3, 1983” that is imbued with such a work. It is a powerful audience recording. Speaking of the Sykes era, there are many official archives such as the official album “LIFE”, the live album “BBC RADIO ONE”, the hitchin performance “ROCK MASTERS”, and the Dublin performance “THUNDER AND LIGHTNING TOUR”. First, let’s look back on the schedule at that time and check the position of this work.

● 1982
《September: Joined John Sykes》
● 1983
・ January 26-March 3: UK # 1 (21 performances) ← * Hitchin video
“March 4th” THUNDER AND LIGHTNING “released”
・ March 6-April 10: UK # 2 (24 performances) ← * LIFE / Dublin video
・ April 27-May 4: Europe (6 performances)
・ May 17-23: Japan (5 performances)
《Tour ends once》
・ August 28: Reading festival appearance ← * BBC RADIO ONE
・ September / February: Dortmund performance (MOR)
・ September / March: Kaiserslautern performance (MOR) ← ★ This work ★
・ September / April: Nuremberg performance (MOR)

This is the process from joining Sykes to THIN LIZZY. Until August 1982, I was touring with Snowy White, and there was another solo performance by Phil Lynott, but I omitted it for the sake of clarity. The “THUNDER AND LIGHTNING Tour” was completed once by May 1983, and its final destination was Japan. Originally it was supposed to be disbanded there, but summer European festival 4 performances (Reading x 1 performance + West Germany MONSTERS OF ROCK x 3 performances) have been added. The reading festival on the first day is the official excavation board “BBC RADIO ONE LIVE IN CONCERT”, and the Kaiserslautern performance of this work is the second performance of the West German version of MONSTERS OF ROCK.
This work recorded at such a show is a powerful audience recording with a lot of direct feeling. This is the latest recording of “GMann”, which has become the hottest topic for HR / HM collectors in 2021, and this is the first new recording. Moreover, the sound is really wonderful, and the tight recording that a powerful and thick core is struck in front of you. The site, “VFR Fussballstadion,” is an outdoor soccer stadium with no sound-reflecting walls or ceiling. It sucks in the sound that is emitted from the PA as it is.
Moreover, even if it is so powerful, it does not make a roaring sound, so it is amazing. Although it seems that it was not recorded by “GMann” himself, it was digitized from the 1st Gene Cassette, but the sound is clear to the finest parts and there is no chattering at the peak. As a matter of fact, Phil’s singing voice may be rubbing due to the fate of late LIZZY, but even that singing voice is as clear as whispering in his ear.
The super direct sound was drawn with exhaustion, and the final THIN LIZZY was on the verge of collapse. Actually, it is an incomplete recording where the recording ends in the middle, but even in a short time of about 40 minutes, masterpieces that are a bit different from other live works are condensed. Let’s organize it while comparing it with “BBC RADIO ONE LIVE IN CONCERT” which is the closest in terms of time.

・ Nightlife: Still in Love With You
・ Jailbreak: Jailbreak / Emerald / The Boys Are Back in Town
・ Live & Dangerous: Are You Ready / Baby Drives Me Crazy (★)
・ Thunder and Lightning: Thunder and Lightning / Cold Sweat (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official version “BBC RADIO ONE LIVE IN CONCERT”.

… And it looks like this. Roughly speaking, it is an abbreviation of “BBC RADIO ONE”, but the last one played is “Baby Drives Me Crazy” which is not included in the studio album. It’s a shame that the recording ends in the middle, but you can still enjoy the precious Sykes version for more than 5 minutes.
Actually, the biggest listening point of this work is Sykes. At that time, the 24-year-old played like a fiery fire was also enjoyed in “BBC RADIO ONE”, but this work is also real of the enthusiasm of the audience knocked out by the rapid fire. Recently, the best recordings of the Gary Moore era have been discovered, but the degree of dyeing of each song is higher in Sykes. The balance that Scott Gorham is clearly on the side makes me feel complicated, but I can’t help but get hot with the overjoyed audience … It’s such a scorching live album.
After this work, after one performance in Nuremberg, “Phil Lynott’s THIN LIZZY” fell asleep forever. It is a marvelous new excavation that allows you to experience the final stage with super direct sound. If the tape does not stop on the way, it is definitely the best one that has been made into a permanent storage press. Hero THIN LIZZY The last brilliance, please experience it carefully with this work.

★ A powerful audience recording of “Kaiserslautern performance on September 3, 1983”, which is one before the final performance. Anyway, the direct feeling is strong, and the super tight recording that a powerful and thick core is struck in front of you. Perhaps because the site is an outdoor soccer stadium, the sound emitted from the PA is sucked in as it is with zero echo. The show was a huge performance by the 24-year-old Sykes at the time, and you can also enjoy the precious Sykes version of “Baby Drives Me Crazy”.

《3月4日『THUNDER AND LIGHTNING』発売》
BBC RADIO ONE

Still in Love With You
Jailbreak/Emerald/The Boys Are Back in Town
Are You Ready/Baby Drives Me Crazy(★)
Thunder and Lightning/Cold Sweat(★)
