TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND, the “strongest live band of our time,” is coming to Japan for the first time in four years. A special video that allows you to experience the scene will be released as a gift.
This work was filmed at the “October 22, 2023: Tokyo Dome City Hall” performance. This is the spectacular audience shot. This week, the 2 big set titles “TOKYO 2023 THE VIDEO: RECORDER 1 (Uxbridge 2047)” and “RECORDER 2 (Uxbridge 2048)”, which complete the 4 performances in Tokyo, will also be released normally, but this work is different from any of them. Another shot. So, which show was this film filmed at? First, let’s check the schedule for coming to Japan.
・October 18: Tokyo Dome City Hall
・October 20th: Tokyo Dome City Hall
・October 21st: Tokyo Dome City Hall
・October 22: Tokyo Dome City Hall ←★This work★
・October 24th: Zepp Nagoya
・October 25th: Amashin Archaic Hall
All 6 performances above. This work was the 4th day of the concert, which was also an additional performance of 4 consecutive performances at Tokyo Dome City Hall.
This work is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, and it is a spectacular video that is very easy to see close to the stage. Judging from the sharp angle, it looks like the photo was taken from the arena seats (fourth row?) to the left of the stage, but that’s a high vantage point. The stage, which was captured passing directly over the heads of the audience in front, was completely unobstructed. The stage occupies your field of view, and you can enjoy the spectacular view as if you had the show all to yourself.
The superb sound is not lost on the spectacular view. It’s the type that goes by like a so-called “soundboard”, and it’s a waste of time as an accompaniment to the video. We have already introduced the top-quality audience recording “TOKYO 2023 3RD & 4TH NIGHTS (Uxbridge 2042)”, so we will not release it individually now, but even a live album with only audio is enough to be called a “master recording”. It’s about quality.
Although it is such a masterpiece video, the only drawback (though it’s not really a drawback) is the final song “Sing A Simple Song / I Want to Take You Higher.” The focus here was a little out of focus, probably because there was something wrong with the equipment or because the lens was dirty. Even if a movie has been of the highest quality so far, if it doesn’t wrap up at the very end, you won’t feel good after watching it. Therefore, in this work, it is supplemented with another video with a similar angle. Now you can enjoy the full show with clear and vivid sound.
What is depicted with such beautiful visuals and beautiful sounds is a full show that makes the 4-day Tokyo event a success. The final Osaka performance has already ended, and we also know the limited songs for each day. Here, let’s organize the set while paying attention to “songs only available on the 4th day in Tokyo.”
●I Am the Moon (4 songs)
・II・Ascension:Playing With My Emotions/Ain’t That Something
・IV Farewell: D’Gary (★)/Soul Sweet Song
●Others (8 songs)
・Made Up Mind: Part Of Me/Made Up Mind
・Others: Life Is Crazy (★) / Looking for Answers (★) / Get What You Deserve (★) / Swamp Raga / Midnight In Harlem / I Want More
●Cover (6 songs)
・Statesboro Blues (★: Blind Willie McTell) / Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad? (DEREK AND THE DOMINOS) / I Pity the Fool (★: Bobby Bland) / Beck’s Bolero (Jeff Beck) / Sing A Simple Song (★: SLY & THE FAMILY STONE) / I Want to Take You Higher (★: SLY & THE FAMILY STONE)
*Note: Songs marked with “★” were played on the first day (DISC 1), and songs marked with “*” were played on the second day (DISC 2).
…and it looks like this. On the first, second, and third days, all songs were replaced, but on the fourth day, there were duplicates. At first, some people said, “We’ve run out of repertoire,” but by the end of the tour, there were days when there were especially many limited edition songs. Most of them are covers, but some of the members’ repertoire was included, such as Derek’s “Get What You Deserve,” Susan’s “Looking for Answers,” and Mike Mattison’s “Life Is Crazy.”
The huge set “TOKYO 2023 THE VIDEO: RECORDER 1” and “RECORDER 2”, which are usually released by the Uxbridge label, have a sense of unity throughout the four performances by the same photographer. Therefore, this work, which only had one performance, was not selected, but in terms of quality it has not lost at all…or rather, it has even surpassed it. This video masterpiece is recommended not only for completers, but also for those who are not concerned about the same photographer, or those who want to easily experience the latest arrivals to Japan. Please enjoy the true value of “the strongest live band of our time” with this work.
★Full video of the 4th day in Tokyo is a gift release. Although it is a different video from the huge set “TOKYO 2023 THE VIDEO: RECORDER 1” and “RECORDER 2”, it is a masterpiece that is not inferior in terms of quality.
