これが2022年のシェリル。ドキュメンタリー公開前後の５月までは単発ステージばかりでしたが、６月からツアーを開始、本作はそんな「北米#2」の６公演目にあたる。この日はコロンバスのダウンタウン開発公社とCAPA（コロンバス舞台芸術協会）が主催したフリー・コンサートでもあり、SOUTHERN AVENUEとケブ・モを従えてのトリ出演でした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、まさに「超」付きの極上オーディエンス録音……です、たぶん。いや、録音者本人が公開したマスターなので確実にオーディエンスなのですが、そのサウンドは完全オフィシャル級。それも発掘物などではなく、レギュラー・リリースの名盤級サウンドなのです。現場は壁のないオープン・スペースだけに反響ゼロなのは想像していましたが、それだけでは説明が付かない。極太な芯のド密着感、空間感覚ゼロな超克明ディテール、鮮やかにもほどがあるセパレート感……どこをどう聴いても客録とは思えない。
特に凄いのは、やはりシェリルのヴォーカル。演奏陣も完璧にオフィシャル作品級なのですが、その上で踊る歌声は肉声の生々しさに目も醒める。優しい歌声は耳元で囁くようにこそばゆく、伸びやかな歌い上げは天翔る高揚感に満ちている。サウンド・クオリティ的にはオフィシャル風ではあるものの、やはりこの生々しさはオーディエンス録音の成せる業なのかと改めて納得する。2022年の技術はここまで凄い……そんな人類の進歩にまで想いを馳せてしまう脅威のサウンド体験なのです。
