Sex Pistols / Budokan 1996 1st Night: Dat Master / 1CDR + 1Bonus DVDR / Uxbridge
Live at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 4th November 1996 + 1Bonus DVDR “BUDOKAN 1996: TV BROADCAST”
First visit to Japan of the reunion SEX PISTOLS legend realized in 1996. Introducing the first public original recording that allows you to experience the best of the scene.
The performance of “November 4, 1996: Nippon Budokan” is imbued in this work. It is a superb audience recording that completely recorded the whole picture. Speaking of “Pistols’ Budokan”, the professional shot that became the official work “FILTHY LUCRE TOUR LIVE IN JAPAN” is a symbol, but this work is a completely different performance. In order to grasp the situation around that, let’s first look back from the historical Japan tour schedule.

・October 29: Club Citta Kawasaki

・November 19: Club Citta Kawasaki
・November 21: Hokkaido Welfare Pension Hall
・November 23: Sendai Sun Plaza
A total of 18 performances over a period of about a month. I thought it would be useless to line up too much, but this scale is a sense of history. I dared to arrange them. If the number of performances is overwhelming, the breadth of the archipelago from Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south is also amazing. It is impossible for any outside sauce now, and it is a strange Japan tour that was possible only because of SEX PISTOLS even in the golden 90s. Among them, the highlight was the 3 performances at Nippon Budokan, and it was the final day of the Budokan that became the TV broadcast and the official work “FILTHY LUCRE TOUR LIVE IN JAPAN” (the 14th performance in the whole visit to Japan). On the other hand, this work was recorded on the first day of the Budokan, which is the 6th performance of the tour.
This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, is a superb recording with “super”. It is a DAT master excavated by its own route, but this is just amazing, saying “audience !?” “Really Budokan?” The on core is clear and powerful, and there is no sense of distance even though it is a Budokan. The air that the core penetrates is crystal clear, and the details are clearly drawn down to the smallest details. Compared to the sound board sound of TV broadcasting, there is also a natural audience-likeness, but if you analyze each element one by one, it is not inferior to the sound board at all.
What’s even more strange is the distance of the loud cheers. Even if you look back at the schedule, it is tremendously popular, and the excitement that reflects it is certainly sucked in. However, they are so far away that they cannot be understood, and do not come in between the thick and thick performance sounds and vocals. Where in that octagonal space was such a superb sound …? The more you think about it, the more mysteriously wonderful the sound world is.
A full show with such a superlative sound that spreads the legend before your eyes. Frankly speaking, the set is the same as “FILTHY LUCRE TOUR LIVE IN JAPAN”, but let’s organize it here as well.
Do whatever you want!! (12 songs)

* Note: “★” marks are songs that were not played in the 2008 return visit to Japan.
… and it looks like this. Net about 63 minutes. It was an unprecedented short performance for a major act at the Budokan. This work is not incomplete, but this is the truth of the day. On the last day of the Budokan, there is no 2nd encore “Road Runner” played, and the final announcement that flows ruthlessly is completely recorded.
A legend, including its shortness. This work is a new excavation live album that allows you to fully experience such a scene with the finest sound. It is “another FILTHY LUCRE TOUR LIVE IN JAPAN” and is a 100% trial board. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content as it is nothing more than a cultural heritage.
“November 4, 1996: Nippon Budokan” performance super superb audience recording. It is an original DAT master recorded at a performance different from the official video, and the on-core is clear and powerful, and there is no sense of distance even though it is the Budokan. The air that the core penetrates is crystal clear, and the details are clearly drawn down to the smallest details. It is a piece that is nothing but a cultural heritage that allows you to fully experience the legendary scene with superb quality.
★★Special project
★ New masterpiece “BUDOKAN 1996 1ST NIGHT: DAT MASTER” where you can experience the legendary first visit to Japan with the finest original DAT sound. Only for the first delivery, the best professional shot “BUDOKAN 1996: TV BROADCAST”, which is also a symbol of the first visit to Japan, will be specially attached.
The main live album is a superb full live album where you can experience the legendary Nippon Budokan performance on site. Nothing more than a cultural heritage born from the original DAT. As I mentioned in the commentary, speaking of Nippon Budokan for the first time in Japan, the best professional shot reigns as a symbol. Therefore, as a bonus to celebrate the birth of the new name board sound, a special version of the large standard video is also specially included.
This work was filmed at the “November 16, 1996: Nippon Budokan” performance. It is the multi-camera pro shot. As mentioned in the commentary of the main part, this video is also famous for being officially released as “FILTHY LUCRE TOUR LIVE IN JAPAN”. This work is a copy of such an official product. . . not. On this day, there was also a live broadcast by a certain satellite broadcasting station, which was made into a DVD from the highest peak master. It is a definitive edition that covers the songs and parts that were cut in the official version.
Of course, it’s not just a broadcast version, it’s also the highest quality. In our shop, we have archived a number of music programs from the best masters of core recording enthusiasts, and this work is one of them. The image quality recorded with high-end equipment in each era is exactly the highest peak, and there is no dubbing or noise because it is directly converted to DVD from the original master. That is the beauty of the image as if it was caused by the Japanese version of the laser disc at that time.
Even if the quality is laserdisc grade, the content is definitely broadcast live. There are logos here and there, but more than that, you can also watch the songs that were cut in the product version and the special video that was broadcast to adjust the time of the live broadcast. Let’s check the contents here.

… and it looks like this. No cut only live broadcast. In the main live album (first day of Budokan), you can fully witness “Road Runner”, which was not chlorine. That alone is a treasure, but in this broadcast, a number of bonus images were also played. A longer frame was reserved for live broadcasting, and it seems that clips and excerpts from the movie “The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle” were inserted before and after the performance. In this work, it is summarized after the main live so that it is easy to see, but you can enjoy all the broadcasted images. Let’s check the contents.
[Bonus video] ●Clip・Anarchy In The U.K./God Save The Queen/Pretty Vacant/Pretty Vacant
The movie The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle
・Holidays In The Sun/Belsen Was A Gas/No Fun
Since this is a bonus unique to broadcasting, it is of course not included in the full “FILTHY LUCRE TOUR LIVE IN JAPAN”. Everything is nostalgic, including the joy that has been realized after 20 years of formation, and Johnny Rotten, whose appearance has changed. It is a video work that allows you to experience the night of Nippon Budokan, where every moment has become a legend, with a real-time sensation unique to live broadcasting. Together with the main live album of 100% real life experience, it is exactly the highest quality cultural heritage set. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
