The absolute soundboard album that has been called “True WORLD WIDE LIVE” has been brushed up. SCORPIONS will be released in a press 2CD that will leave the brilliance of the climax forever.
What is engraved on this work is “April 28, 1984 Costa Mesa Performance”. It is the super best stereo sound board recording. The “LOVE AT FIRST STING” era was at its peak. Not only was the album a huge hit, but they also took the world by storm on the biggest tour of their career. This is also a good opportunity, so let’s take a look back at that glorious moment in full view.

This is an overview of activities from 1984 to 1986. In addition to the length of 2 years and 9 months, the number of events held at over 180 parks is without a doubt the best in my career. You can clearly see how the world was looking for SCORPIONS. The official live work “WORLD WIDE LIVE” is a symbol of such a climax tour, but it was also a compilation work assembled from multiple live performances. Which live show was used? The Costa Mesa performance of this work is one of the six performances listed above. Unlike the official version, it is a “true WORLD WIDE LIVE” that was only performed once. Moreover, the sound is superb. It’s on par with the official “WORLD WIDE LIVE”…or in a sense, it’s even better. The official masterpiece was overdubbed with loud cheers, perhaps aiming for a sense of scale, and the echoes were also outstanding. Although it was typical of the 80’s, it also felt a bit fake and artificial. However, this work is different. Although loud cheers were recorded, it has a more natural balance than the official one, and the crisp performance sound is tight. If you have the official high-quality sound in your head, it may feel like it’s a direct-to-console system, but if you listen closely, you’ll notice that the mix is carefully arranged and the feel of the work is perfect.
Furthermore, this work is the highest peak updated version that has raised the “top” of such apex soundboard. It has always been super high quality, but when I analyzed the band, there was room for perfect balance. Adjust the bass to make it beautiful and emphasize the mids and highs. Of course, this was not a meaningless change, but this improved the clarity and stereo feeling. Furthermore, the level of perfection as a musical work has increased.
What is depicted with such an upgraded sound is exactly the “real WORLD WIDE LIVE”. Let’s organize the set while also checking out the songs that have been officially adopted.

…and it looks like this. Unfortunately, there is no reprise part of “Can’t Get Enough”, so technically it’s not a full show, but you can also hear a drum solo that is not officially available. Regardless of whether or not the solo itself is a masterpiece, it is created as a “song” in which the whole band plays the riff before and after it. Also, the above “★” and “☆” are based on verification by overseas enthusiasts. The official version and this work have quite a different sound feel, and there also seem to be overdubs, so some songs may not match exactly even if they have markings.
In any case, the rawness of an uncensored live show and the experience of a full live show. This is a soundboard album that conveys the “true golden age” that is different from the over-produced official “WORLD WIDE LIVE”. An absolute masterpiece that rivals “LOVE AT FIRST STING: DEMOS & REHEARSALS (Shades 490)”, its highest peak updated edition. Please enjoy it anytime and forever with the permanent preservation press 2CD.

★Superb stereo soundboard recording of “April 28, 1984 Costa Mesa Performance”. This is a live long soundboard that was also used in the official “WORLD WIDE LIVE”, and the sound is equal to or better than the official one. The official version was heavily processed with overdubs and echo processing, but this work is ultra-realistic with the real live performance exposed. What’s more, this is a top-of-the-line updated album that has been polished through careful mastering and has an improved sense of balance that is unique to the work. This is an absolute work that will truly become a “true WORLD WIDE LIVE.”

これが1984年ー1986年の活動概要。２年９ヶ月に及ぶ長さもさることながら、180公園を越える場数は文句なくキャリアNo.1。いかに世界中がSCORPIONSを求めていたのかがよく分かります。公式ライヴ作『WORLD WIDE LIVE』はそんな絶頂ツアーの象徴なわけですが、複数ライヴから組み上げられた編集作品でもありました。一体どのライヴが使われたのか。良い機会なのでここでチェックしてみましょう。

以上の６公演で、本作のコスタメサ公演はその中の１つ。オフィシャルとは違って１回のライヴだけで通された「真のWORLD WIDE LIVE」なのです。しかも、サウンドまで超極上。公式『WORLD WIDE LIVE』と同等……と言いますか、ある意味でそれ以上。オフィシャル名盤はスケール感を狙ったのか大歓声が豪快にオーバーダブされ、エコーもばりばり。それも80年代らしさではありますが、ややウソっぽい作り物感もありました。しかし、本作は違う。大歓声も記録されつつ、オフィシャルよりも自然なバランスですし、キリッと引き締まった演奏音はタイト。公式の盛り盛りサウンドが脳裏にあると卓直結系のようにも感じますが、しっかり聴き込むとミックスも丁寧に整っていて作品感もばっちりなのです。
さらに本作はそんな頂点サウンドボードの「てっぺん」をグイッと引き上げた最高峰更新盤。従来から超極上ではあったのですが、帯域分析してみるとバランスに完全の余地があった。低音を調整して美しく整え、中高音を心持ち強調。もちろん無意味に変えたのではなく、これによってヌケとステレオ感が向上。さらに音楽作品としての完成度が高まったのです。
そんなアップグレード・サウンドで描かれるのは、まさに「本物のWORLD WIDE LIVE」。オフィシャルに採用された曲もチェックしつつ、セットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。残念ながら「Can’t Get Enough」のリプライズ・パートがないので厳密にはフルショウではないものの、公式にはないドラム・ソロも聴ける。ソロが自体が名演かどうかはさておき、その前後はバンド全体でリフを刻む「曲」として作られています。また、上記の「★」「☆」は海外マニアの検証によるもの。公式盤と本作はかなりサウンドの感触が違う上にオーバーダブもあるようなので、印があっても完全一致しない曲もあります。
ともあれ無修正ライブの生々しさと、通しライヴの体験感。作りすぎていた公式『WORLD WIDE LIVE』とは違う「真の黄金時代」をの味噌に流し込んでくれるサウンドボード・アルバムです。『LOVE AT FIRST STING: DEMOS & REHEARSALS（Shades 490）』と並ぶ絶対作、その最高峰更新盤。どうぞ、永久保存プレス２CDでいつでも、いつまでもお楽しみください。
