The big festival “DAY ON THE GREEN” that appeared in the middle of the big heyday. The complete live album is now available on Permanent Preservation Press 2CD.
Of course, what is engraved in this work is “August 31, 1985 Auckland performance”. That stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of the “LOVE AT FIRST STING” era, not only was the album shining in multi-platinum, but “WORLD WIDE LIVE” was also a hit, and it was a heyday when two visits to Japan were realized. This is SCORPIONS from 1984 to 1986. In 1984, along with 1991 in the “CRAZY WORLD” era, he played the most live performances in his career, but he added it the following year and the year after next. Moreover, there were a series of appearances at historic festivals such as Japan’s SUPER ROCK ’84, the 1st ROCK IN RIO, and Knebworth festival, and it was a climax. And “DAY ON THE GREEN” should be called the North American version of such a huge festival. The first day of the two days was “Heavy Metal Day”, and SCORPIONS acted as a bird with awesome men such as METALLICA, RATT, Y & T, Yngwie Malmsteen, and VICTORY (by the way, the second day was pop).・ On the day, WHAM !, THE POINTER SISTERS, and KATRINA AND THE WAVES appeared).
And this stage is historic even if the best professional record was left. METALLICA, which is partly formalized, is also famous, but the biggest impact is still the bird’s SCORPIONS. In 2013, a 70-minute long professional shot appeared, and we are reigning on the press DVD “DAY ON THE GREEN 1985”. But this pro shot wasn’t perfect either. The drum solo and the following two songs “Another Piece Of Meat” and “Dynamite” are not recorded, and the final “Can’t Get Enough” is also cut by the guitar solo “Six Strings Sting”. Only the decisive quality left “a little more” teeth.
This work is a complete version that clears such teeth. It is a live album that complements the 2 songs + α that were missing on the sound board with the best audience recording, and you can enjoy the full show on the day (strictly speaking, the audience recording also lacks only the last “Jean!” (About 3 seconds?) And what is surprising is the best of the supplementary audience recording that does not impair the natural flow. If you’ve seen the pro shots of this show, you probably know the direct connection with the bare core and the strong and unrivaled direct feeling, but it doesn’t change even if it is switched to audience recording. Of course, I don’t know if I’m waiting with headphones saying “It’s about to change” … It’s exaggerated, but if I play it normally with speakers, it feels like “Oh? It seems that the PA sound is picked up directly with zero echo only at the outdoor festival, but the real sound board is connected with a “sound board” close-up recording.
SCORPIONS who lost the genius Uli Jon Roth and also cut the god Michael Schenker. Why could they overcome the handicap of being from Germany and become a world-class giant? Is it because the sound is jarring? There were so many bands all over the world that the scorpions were prominent among them, but it was a live performance. The “LOVE AT FIRST STING” era, which swept huge festivals around the world and climbed to the icon of HR / HM. This work is a live album where you can fully experience “DAY ON THE GREEN Night” which was one of the highlights.
