SAXON is the strongest live band of NWOBHM who has released his live masterpiece “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED 40 LIVE” for his 40th anniversary. The latest professional shot is here.
This is the performance of “August 3, 2019 Wacken Open Air” performance. It is a super multi-camera pro shot with all the details. SAXON is a world-famous metal band, but Japan has not been around for a long time. First, let’s check the show position from the 2019 activity summary in order to know their recent situation.

This is SAXON in 2019. Last year, the 22nd studio work “THUNDERBOLT” was released. I am currently traveling around the summer European festival at my own pace. And this Wacken performance was also a concert the day after the release of “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED 40 LIVE”.
This work that recorded such a show is the best professional shot that is no exaggeration to say that it is the best in the world. SAXON is still very popular around the world, but it is undoubtedly Germany that has received great support. Since “DENIM AND LEATHER” in 1981, all albums have been on the German charts, and the latest “THUNDERBOLT” is the fifth highest ever. This achievement far surpasses the home country of England, and in Germany it is not a former glory, but it is a super big game that makes the moment. They stood in the land of German pride “Wacken” that celebrated its 30th anniversary.
The magnificent stage is perfect for image quality and sound quality. Of course, the camera work peculiar to Wacken, which is specially regarded by metal players all over the world, is also fully opened. As I wrote in the ANTHRAX edition released at the same time, the camera work is not only active, but creative and extremely dynamic. The tricky movement that strikes the intention is also used a lot, but since it is familiar with the song and music, there is no sense of incongruity. The scale is much larger than that of ANTHRAX, and it is a prowessed pro shot.

Although there is no room to select from all 22 albums, the 90’s and 2000’s are unmissable. It is a historical show that is unique to Germany, which has continued to love the world’s best SAXON. Of course, the performance of such a set is overwhelming. Black coat Bif Byford disperses the charisma of Rob Halford, and his partner Paul Quinn and Nigel Glockler’s groove are the king’s personality. The boogie they play as a whole reminds us of the era when AC / DC and MOTORHEAD were scraped off, and the heavy melody overflows with the spirit of SAXON.

It ’s the champion ’s show. Its stale heavy metal and charismatic appearance, and the “SAXON is SAXON” attitude is comparable to MOTORHEAD. そんな本作に刻まれているのは「2019年８月３日ヴァッケン・オープン・エア」公演。その一部始終を収めた超極上マルチカメラ・プロショットです。大御所メタルバンドとして世界的な人気を誇るSAXONですが、こと日本は久しくご無沙汰。そんな彼らの近況を知る意味でも、まずは2019年の活動概要からショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これが2019年のSAXON。昨年、22枚目のスタジオ作『THUNDERBOLT』をリリースしましたが、そのツアー本編は今年の春先までで一段落。現在はマイペースに夏の欧州フェスを巡っています。そして、本作のヴァッケン公演は『THE EAGLE HAS LANDED 40 LIVE』発売の翌日にあたるコンサートでもありました。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、まさに世界一と言っても過言ではない極上プロショット。SAXONは今なお世界的な人気を誇っていますが、絶大な支持を寄せているのは紛れもなくドイツ。1981年の『DENIM AND LEATHER』以来、すべてのアルバムが独チャート入りを果たしており、特に最新作『THUNDERBOLT』も歴代最高となる５位をマーク。この実績は母国イギリスを遙かに凌駕しており、ドイツではかつての栄光でも何でもなく、今をときめく超大物なのです。そんな彼らが30周年を迎えたドイツの誇り“ヴァッケン”の地に立ったわけです。
