UxbridgeからのRUSHの新作がリリースされた。今回は、今年が30周年である『Signals』に伴うワールドツアーから、終盤に行われた英国ツアーの２日目、Birmingham公演のオーディエンス音源だ。今の音に慣れた耳で聞くと、こもっているし分離も今ひとつだが、30年前の音としては決して悪くない。特に、『Signals World Tour』はサウンドボード音源が未だ陽の目を見ておらず、また全体を通しても高音質なオーディエンス音源は少ないので、現状ではこのクラスが最高レベルの音質となる。冒頭は少々音が揺れるものの、その後は安定してバンドの音を捉えており、安心して演奏を楽しむことができるだろう。セットリストは、英国公演用の短縮版。厳密には、オランダを除くヨーロッパ大陸公演で北米のセットから「Chemistry」と「The Camera Eye」が落ち、この英国で後者が再度復活したという経緯になる。「Chemistry」は演奏されていないのが残念だが、ツアーの様子は良くわかると思う。冒頭の縒?縟での畳み掛けから『Signals』の楽曲へ行く部分、70年代の曲を短くアレンジしながら随所に盛り込む演出等、非常に聴き応えがある。また、英国の観客の盛り上がり、合唱も聴け、会場の熱い雰囲気も追体験できるだろう。なお、この音源はファン・レーベルより『Suite Signals』というタイトルでリリースされているものと同じ録音だった。但し、冒頭の処理の違い等から、コピー盤ではなく今回新たにマスタリングされたものと思われる。マスター直という『Suite Signals』と基本的な音質は同等なので、こちらもマスターをソースとしているのだろう。両者に大きな違いはないが、新装版として興味深いタイトルだ。
