The 1998 performance that was provided this time, the first appearance sound source on the 4th day of Tokyo Dome is also an audience recording with excellent sound quality. Compared to the third day, Mick’s singing voice is a distant sound image, but Keith’s sound is still close on this day. This was a fact that was often overlooked at the time, but it was also the attraction of the Babylon Tour that it pushed out the sound of Keith’s guitar more than before on the tour after the restart of Stones. In addition, this sound source has an interesting stereo feeling centered on Mick’s sound image, and when you listen with headphones, you will feel the unique expanse of the reverberation of the singing voice returning from the right. In that respect, it may be said that this sound source is in a recording state for headphones compared to the third day.
Since this is also the first appearance and an original sound source, the disc is also used for the atmosphere of the venue before the appearance of Stones. Under such circumstances, the voice of a woman selling drinks passes by, which makes me smile as if it were before the start of the Tokyo Dome concert. The day before was such a maniac number night, so I wondered what kind of song would be played today … The maniac who was excited by her expectations would bring back memories of the day.

Also on this day, the performances of the Stones and below Mick are wonderful. When I listened to it in this way, I was reminded of how “TOKYO 1998 2ND NIGHT” became a flash point in the 1998 performance in Japan, and the performance is also vigorous on this day. On the contrary, all of the new songs show excellent performance, as if to show the active feeling unique to Stones at that time. “Flip The Switch”, which was wonderful even the day before, has a higher tension, and it is because of the recording state of this sound source that Keith plays a phrase that makes Keith attack after the song part is over.
“Anybody Seen My Baby?”, Which is also included in “BRIDGES TO BABYLON” and was played every day as the first single at the beginning of the tour, is because it was difficult to reproduce the atmosphere of the song that was in the album version on the stage. In 1998, the number of performances decreased, and this was the second time that it was performed in Japan. At first, it was the second day of Mick’s best performance in Tokyo, but here you can hear his song with even higher tension. From here as well, it is a masterpiece that clearly shows that Mick and Stones maintained their strong performance.

In this way, it was a day when the past numbers were surprisingly different from the day before, and I felt a flash in the new song group, but even so, the song selection of the repertoire of yesteryear was practically “BLACK AND BLUE” night. It was also a day that pleased the enthusiasts in that they turned into. That was the “Memory Motel” that was chosen as the voting number. It was a masterpiece that had already been performed in Japan in 1995, but the excitement is not comparable to that time. It’s because 1998 when enthusiasts who love Stones gathered in the dome.
However, the ultimate in “BLACK AND BLUE” night is “Crazy Mama”! At the time of writing this sentence, El Mocambo was released in 1977, which is a sunny and holy grail, but it seems as if this song was played on the B stage and it became a space like “Petit Mocambo”. But now that El Mocambo has finally been released. In other words, the meaning of the performance at this time has changed in a good way. In the first place, this song was not played frequently on the Babylon Tour, and even more so, many enthusiasts were delighted with the performance of the day.
Even if it wasn’t, the El Mocambo item released at that time was in a state where the recording was interrupted when Mick started singing in this song, so such a frustrating state and the mania that overlapped the performance here Should not have been few. In addition, the sound image of this sound source becomes closer to the B stage, and it also has the great appeal that the only “Crazy Mama” that has been shown in Japan until now is heard with powerful sound quality. As a result, the releases at the perfect time will overlap. It’s still fun to compare El Mocambo’s take, which enthusiasts from all over the world have been waiting for, with “Crazy Mama”, which was unveiled in Japan in 1998!
