Nearly 10 years ago, there was a large-scale behavior of the Rolling Stones stereo soundboard recording at the nostalgic “Wolfgang” site. The great thing about them was that although it was a rough mix, only stereo sound boards with multitrack recording were released.
Currently, the “Wolfgang” site has been renamed to “CONCERT VAULT”, but the sound source originally owned by the legendary promoter Bill Graham will be released. However, this site, Tokyo Dome in 1990, which has nothing to do with Graham, and even the live sound source of Stones performed after his death were released, and at that time, enthusiasts all over the world drooled. It is a hanging one.
The best example is Tampa in 1994. A sound source that made enthusiasts all over the world surprise as a shocking multi-track sound board in November 1994, when there were no items recorded by the audience. The masterpiece that showed it on a press CD with haste was “TAMPA 1994″, and it was also a masterpiece that sold out in a blink of an eye in 2013. Eight years have passed since then, and with many requests for recurrence, the renewal version will finally be released this week.

Since the original was multitrack recording, the stereo separation of each instrument was wonderful, and on top of that, the cheers echoed firmly between the songs in stereo. The overall feel is dry as no work has been done for the release, but the stereo feel that sets it apart from the dead feel of performance and presence like a PA-out sound board. It’s great enough to hear now.
The main part that was reworked for this release was to first raise the volume of the left channel to adjust the stereo balance. The most important fix is ​​”Far Away Eyes,” which was the highlight of the day. In the latter half of that, there was a happening that the sequencer for “Sympathy For The Devil” malfunctioned, but at the time of release in 2013, I misunderstood that this was a transfer of tape or something and cut it, and then another chorus of the song I was patching the part. As pointed out in the research magazine, Mick made a mistake in singing the chorus on this day, but by diverting the wrong part as a patch staff, it is a misedited version that makes two mistakes. It is said that it had become.
Therefore, this time, I went back to the original sound source and did not fix the problematic part, recorded it in the original state and solved the biggest drawback of the previous version. Moreover, since the balance of the left channel has been adjusted, there is also the advantage of being able to hear more clearly about the relevant part. Certainly, this was a malfunction of the sequencer, and it was also a happening like the 1994 tour, which was also a technology tour.

And speaking of the biggest attraction of this sound source, on the stage at the time when it was not strange to say that there was too much support in addition to technology, the sound of the horn section could not be heard at all, instead it was the original point of Stones. The guitars of Keith and Ronnie that can be said would have sounded clearly from the left and right. Certainly, the balance is different from the sound image of the actual tour, but the balance where Keith’s sound can be heard firmly is unthinkable in the official live album where the whole sound is arranged, and it is unique to the rough state. something like.
For example, in “I Go Wild” etc., I hear wonderful cutting everywhere that I want to call Keith’s section fully open, and I am deeply moved that Keith was Keith even on the tour where the gorgeous sound reached the peak. .. As I said earlier, I adjusted the left and right stereo balance for this release, so I think that you can enjoy the two more Stones-like guitar sounds in a realistic way.
And I’m grateful that the horn section, which has become almost wiped out, sounds properly in an indispensable song like “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo”. Keith’s “The Worst” replay, which became a hot topic in 2013, and Mick’s introduction scene called “Risha Fisher”, which is not Lisa, are interesting enough to laugh at now. In every sense, the precious multi-track soundboard that gave us a glimpse of the other side of the 1994 “VOODOO LOUNGE” tour has been revived with a version upgrade!

今から10年近く前、懐かしの「ウォルフガング」サイトにてローリング・ストーンズのステレオ・サウンドボード録音の大盤振る舞いがありました。それらの凄いところは、ラフミックスでありながらもマルチトラック録音のステレオ・サウンドボードばかりが公開されたという事だったのです。
現在は「CONCERT VAULT」に名前を変えた「ウォルフガング」サイトですが、元は伝説のプロモーター、ビル・グレアムが所有していた音源を公開するというもの。ところがこのサイト、グレアムの関りがない1990年の東京ドーム、さらには彼の没後に行われたストーンズのライブ音源まで公開してくれており、当時はあまりの量に世界中のマニアがよだれを垂らしたものです。
その最たる例が1994年のタンパ。オーディエンス録音のアイテムすら皆無の94年アメリカ・ツアー11月において衝撃のマルチトラック・サウンドボードとして世界中のマニアをアッと言わせた音源。それを速攻でプレスCDリリースしてみせた名盤が「TAMPA 1994」であり、2013年当時にはあっという間に売り切れてしまった名作でもありました。あれから8年の歳月が経過し、さらには再発のリクエストを多数受けていた中で今週遂にリニューアル版のリリースが実現します。

元がマルチトラック録音ですので各楽器のステレオ・セパレーションなどは素晴らしいものがあり、その上で歓声もステレオでしっかりと曲間に響き渡る。リリースに向けての作業が施されていない状態ですので全体的にドライな質感ですが、PAアウトのサウンドボードのような演奏も臨場感もデッドな質感とは一線を画すステレオ感。それは今聞いても十分に素晴らしいもの。
今回のリリースに際して手直しを加えた主な部分としては、まず左チャンネルの音量を上げてステレオのバランスを整えました。もっとも重要な修正点としては、この日の目玉であった「Far Away Eyes」です。それの後半では「Sympathy For The Devil」用シーケンサーが誤作動するというハプニングが起きていたのですが、2013年のリリース時にはこれがテープの転写か何かと誤解してカット、その上で曲の別のコーラス部分をパッチしていたのです。研究誌で指摘されたように、この日はミックがコーラスの歌い出しを間違えてしまっていたのですが、その間違っていた個所をパッチ要員として流用したことで二回ミスが続くバージョンという誤編集となってしまっていたという。
そこで今回は元音源に立ち返って問題の個所を修正なし、本来の状態のままで収録して前回のバージョン最大の欠点を解消させています。しかも左チャンネルのバランスを整えましたので、件の個所に関してはよりはっきり聞き取れるというメリットも生まれました。確かにこれはシーケンサーの誤作動ですし、テクノロジー・ツアーでもあった1994年ツアーらしいハプニングでもあったのですね。

そしてこの音源最大の魅力と言えば、テクノロジーに加えてサポート過多といってもおかしくなかった時期のステージにおいて、ホーンセクションの音がまったくと言っていいほどに聞こえず、代わりにストーンズ本来の要と言えるキースとロニーのギターが左右から鮮明に鳴り響いてくれたことでしょう。確かに実際のツアーのサウンドイメージとは異なるバランスですが、中でもキースの音がしっかり聞こえるバランスというのはサウンド全体が整えられてしまうオフィシャルのライブアルバムでは考えらえないことであり、ラフな状態ならではというもの。
例えば「I Go Wild」などではキース節全開と呼びたくなる素晴らしいカッティングを随所で聞かせており、ゴージャスなサウンドが頂点に達したツアーにおいてもキースはキースでいてくれたのだな…と感慨深くなります。先にも申しましたように、今回のリリースに際して左右のステレオ・バランスを調整しましたので、よりストーンズらしい二本のギター・サウンドをリアルに楽しんでもらえるのではないかと。
そしてほとんど抹殺されたような存在と化してしまったホーンセクションも「Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo」のような欠かせない曲ではちゃんと鳴ってくれているのがありがたい。2013年当時に話題となったキースの「The Worst」弾き直しやミックのリサならぬ「リシャ・フィッシャー」という紹介場面などの面白さは今聞いても十分に笑える。あらゆる意味で94年「VOODOO LOUNGE」ツアーのアザー・サイドを垣間見させてくれた貴重なマルチトラック・サウンドボードがバージョンアップにて復活！
