As a result, the taper has to struggle to secure a good position, and there is no audience recording at a level that can be called a “sound board”. It’s a phenomenon consistently seen in all of the urban jungle tours that took place in the United States, Japan, and Europe this time.
When it comes to urban jungle, the quality of audience recordings is not as good as the United States and Japan before that, and there are few items from rear tie to the present. In this era, DAT recorders were not yet popular among enthusiasts, which also resulted in the lack of sound quality in the urban jungle period. Rather, the fact that there were more analog LP items than CDs in the rear tie clearly represented the poorness of the audience recording on this tour.
And just like Atlantic City and Tokyo Dome, Urban Jungle also realized the decisive stereo sound board radio broadcast of Wembley Stadium on July 7th, and it felt like it was the only choice. In addition, it would have narrowed the shoulders of the audience recording item. In any case, there is no doubt that the tour from 1989 to 1990 is not blessed with items until now.

That’s why I was surprised by the high-level audience recording of 1989, such as “LOS ANGELES 1989 1ST NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES”, which Mike Millard, who hates stadiums, left behind after all his hard work like last week. However, at the same time, a good audience master from the Urban Jungle Tour appeared for two days.
A new event was held in Frankfurt in May. Two performances were held at the same place, but this time the sound source by the taper who participated in both days was released. Especially on the first day, it is a day that has never been recorded in any form, so I think it will be a valuable excavation for maniacs.
On the first day, the sound image seems to be a little distant like the recording of the Urban Jungle Tour, but Mick’s voice is still large enough to be easily heard. Unfortunately, it was originally a cassette recording, and when it was released on the internet, the pitch was high, but by adjusting it exactly at the time of the limited press CD release, the ease of listening was greatly improved.
And above all, the high tension of both Mick and Keith. First of all, Mick is in great shape from the opening, and the relaxed singing in “Factory Girl”, which was his second live performance, stands out. There is a feeling that the take at Wembley was later recorded in “FLASHPOINT” and turned into a rare number representing this tour, but the performance here is also really wonderful. In addition, Keith is in great shape as well, and in “Can’t Be Seen”, which he sings himself, the tension is really high from the count before starting the performance to the shout “Hey!”

Based on the experience of the first day, Taper rushed into the field closer to the stage and recorded on the second day. On this day, there were three types of sound sources released in various items in the past, but among them, there may be many people who feel nostalgic for the VGP label “FRANKFURT SHUFFLE”. It is a completely different audience recording from such past items, and the listening comfort recorded with very natural sound quality from the cassette master is exceptional.
Compared to the nostalgic “FRANKFURT SHUFFLE”, the new sound source this time has a clear difference in sound quality, but as a result of adding an equalization that alleviates the state where the pitch is adjusted and the bass reverberates, the sound is even better. It’s getting easier. The surroundings are exciting like an urban jungle tour, but it’s also good that the performance is captured as much as it is.
The members are in great shape on this day as well, and you can hear a really lively performance. Among them, Mick was in higher tension than the day before, and the song to be heard in “Almost Hear You Sigh”, which was a masterpiece of Stones’ latest R & B ballad at that time, is a masterpiece. And the light performance of “Dead Flowers”, which was revived only twice in Urban Jungle, is also excellent. In addition, Mick and the other band members introduce the band members with a sense of evil, and even in the urban jungle period, there are a lot of fun and lively scenes unique to this period.
A good audience of mania madness was excavated for two days at once from the urban jungle tour, which had not been blessed with items until now!

先週リリースされた『LOS ANGELES 1989 1ST NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES』にも当てはまることですが、ローリング・ストーンズ1989年から90年にかけてのワールドツアーは世界中が待ち望んだ活動再開ということで会場が基本スタジアム・クラスが当たり前。そのせいでテーパーが良ポジの確保に苦心させられることになり、それこそ「まるでサウンドボード」と呼べるようなレベルのオーディエンス録音が存在しません。それはアメリカ、日本、そして今回のヨーロッパで行われたアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーすべてに一貫して見られた現象なのです。
それがアーバン・ジャングルになると、それ以前のアメリカや日本以上にオーディエンス録音のクオリティに恵まれておらず、リアタイから現在に至るまでアイテムが少ない時期となってしまいます。この時代はまだDATレコーダーがマニアの間に普及しておらず、それがまたアーバン・ジャングル期の音質の恵まれなさに拍車をかける結果となってしまったのです。むしろリアタイではCDよりアナログLPアイテムの方が多かったという事情がこのツアーにおけるオーディエンス録音の恵まれなさ加減を如実に表していました。
そしてアトランティック・シティや東京ドームと同じように、アーバン・ジャングルもまた7月7日のウェンブリー・スタジアムという決定的なステレオ・サウンドボードのラジオ放送が実現し、それ一択となってしまった感がまたオーディエンス録音アイテムの肩身を狭くさせてしまったのでしょう。いずれにせよ89年から90年にかけてのツアーが今に至るまでアイテムに恵まれない時期であることは間違いありません。

だからこそ先週のようにスタジアム嫌いのマイク・ミラードが苦心の果てに残してくれた『LOS ANGELES 1989 1ST NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES』のようなレベル高めな89年のオーディエンス録音には驚かされた訳ですが、奇しくも同じようなタイミングでアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーからの良好オーディエンス・マスターが二日分も登場してくれました。
新たに現れたのは5月に行われたフランクフルト。同地では都合二回の公演が行われましたが、今回は両日とも参戦したテーパーによる音源が公開されました。特に初日は今までいかなる形でも音盤化されたことのない日ですので、それだけでもマニアからすれば価値の高い発掘になるかと。
そんな初日の方はアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーの録音らしく少し距離感のある音像なのですが、それでもミックの声が大きく捉えられているので十分に聞きやすいクオリティ。元がカセット録音だったことが災いし、ネット上で公開された段階ではピッチが高めだったのですが、それを限定プレスCDリリースに際してきっちりアジャストしたことで聞きやすさが格段にアップ。
それに何と言ってもミックとキース両人のテンションの高さ。まずミックはオープニングから絶好調で、何と言っても二回目のライブ披露となった「Factory Girl」における伸びやかな歌いっぷりが際立ちます。後にウェンブリーでのテイクが『FLASHPOINT』に収録されてこのツアーを代表するレアナンバーと化した感がありますが、ここでの演奏も実に素晴らしい。またキースも負けじと絶好調で、自身が歌う「Can’t Be Seen」では演奏を始める前のカウントから歌に入る「ヘイ！」という掛け声まで実にハイテンション。

テーパーは初日の経験を踏まえ、二日目はよりステージに近いフィールドに突進しての録音を敢行。この日は過去に三種類の音源がさまざまなアイテムでリリースされた実績がありましたが、中でもVGPレーベルの『FRANKFURT SHUFFLE』を懐かしく感じられる方が多いかもしれません。そうした過去のアイテムとはまた全く別のオーディエンス録音であり、何と言ってもカセット・マスターからの非常にナチュラルな音質で収録された聞き心地は格別。
そんな今回の新音源は懐かしの『FRANKFURT SHUFFLE』と比べても音質の差は歴然なのですが、そこにピッチのアジャストと低音がドコドコと響いてしまう状態を緩和させるイコライズを加えた結果、さらに聞きやすくなっています。アーバン・ジャングル・ツアーらしく周囲は盛り上がっているのですが、それに負けじと演奏が大きく捉えられているのも良き。
この日もメンバーは絶好調で、実にはつらつとした演奏が聞かれる。中でもミックは前日以上にハイテンションで、当時のストーンズ最新型R&Bバラードの傑作だった「Almost Hear You Sigh」で聞かせる歌は正に名唄。そしてアーバン・ジャングルで二回だけ復活した「Dead Flowers」の軽快な演奏も絶品。おまけにミック以下バンドメンバーが悪ノリ気味に紹介して盛り上がるメンバー紹介など、アーバン・ジャングル期においてもこの時期ならではの楽しげでイキイキとした場面が目白押し。
今まで何かとアイテムに恵まれなかったアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーからマニア狂喜の良好オーディエンスが一気に二日分も発掘されました！
