平成元年の秋、世の中がバブル景気に浮かれまくってる時代に放送された、懐かしさいっぱいの番組「プレステージ」。今ではちょっと考えられないのですが、当時は、この番組に象徴されるうような、まるで深夜ラジオ放送を映像化したようなかなり緩い感じの企画番組も多かったようです。さてこのビートルズの特番でもお馴染みの「プレステージ」は、89年9月15日金曜深夜、「PRE★STAGE ローリングストンズ祭！」と銘打ち、ストーンズ・ファンにはおなじみの多彩なゲストをスタジオに招き、なんと2時間に渡って放送していたのです！

「ROCKの王様!!ローリング・ストーンズが再び動き出した!!」「死ぬまでロックし続けるローリングストーンズ！」「バンド結成から25年今夜はストーンズ祭だ」と、その強烈な赤字テロップが語る通りの実にホットな特別番組。新作「Steel Wheels」に伴うストーンズの8年ぶりの北米ツアーがスタートしたばかり（この段階だとツアー10日目の9月14日のシンシナティ公演が終わったところ。）、ツアーのセット内容も明らかになり、加えて初のストーンズ来日公演の噂がいよいよ真実味を帯びてきたときであり、時代のストーンズへのヒートアップぶりが日に日に熱さを増していった時期で、そういった熱気が番組からのダイレクトに伝わってくる感じです。視聴者への抽選であたるプレゼントがニューヨーク公演のチケットなのですが「ただし旅費は自前です」とあっさり言いきってくれるところも面白かったりします。(結局、チケットが当たった方が18歳の子だったりします。いきなりチケットをもらっても行けないのでは・・・）とにかく時間枠が2時間もあり、その分、ゲストが自身のストーンズの愛や思い入れを熱くたっぷりと語っており、それぞれが楽しい見所になっています。

開始32分目あたりで観れる手書きのパネル「ローリングストーンズ　トラブル年表」というのも時代を感じさせてくれます。さらには後半、スタジオに持ち込まれた貴重なアナログ・レコードを再生し、それを皆で喜んでしまうというのも流石1989年。マニアにはお馴染みの「ハロー！ミック・ジャガーです」のソノシートをターンテーブルで再生するものの、回転数を間違ってしまい、妙に高い声がスタジオに響き渡ってしまうのも一興(笑）。各所でインサートされているＣＭも懐かしさ満点です。そんな見所に満ちた2時間。30年が経過した2020年。この時期の熱い興奮を思い出しながら、懐かしくも大変貴重な89年特番映像に浸るのも楽しいのではないでしょうか。こちらも以前にリリースし圧倒的好評を頂いたビートルズ・スペシャルと同じマニアからの提供品映像であり、画質・音声ともに大変良好です。ファンには堪らない、まさに大推薦の一枚です。
