A day that had the great charm of being able to fully enjoy the realism of a live performance. After all, in the finale “Satisfaction”, there was even a crackling sound of the waving balloons.
Furthermore, on this day, unlike other 1981 tours and multi-rough mix sound sources, the big advantage that there was no loss of music units was a factor that gained popularity again. I was even more surprised at the recording status of the Super Dome because there was something wrong with the day it was released so far. What is missing is the scene where “Take The A Train” is played at the beginning of the live, and the excellent thing that it was only between several songs.

今から10年近く前にCONCERT VAULTサイトが公開してくれた1981年アメリカ・ツアーからのマルチトラック録音サウンドボードを現在のテクノロジーで見直して再発するシリーズですが、テンピから始まってポンティアックのシルバードーム二日間、そして今回はニューオリンズのスーパードームが久しぶりの登場です。
この日の再登場を待ちわびていたマニアも多いのではないでしょうか。これら一連のマルチトラック録音はラジオ放送だけでなく場合によってはライブアルバム「STILL LIFE」にも流用された訳ですが、当時公開されたラフミックスなステレオ・サウンドボードの中でも特に歓声のレベルが大きめでライブの臨場感もしっかり味わえるという大きな魅力を兼ね備えていた日。何しろフィナーレ「Satisfaction」では振ってきた風船がバチバチと割れる音まで入っていたのだから。
さらにこの日は他の81年ツアー、マルチ・ラフミックス音源と違って楽曲単位の欠損がないという大きなアドバンテージがまた好評を博した要因でした。これまでリリースしてきた日は何かしら欠損があっただけに、なおさらスーパードームの録音状態には驚かされたものです。欠損しているのはライブ冒頭で「Take The A Train」が流れる場面、さらにいくつかの曲間でしかなかったという優れもの。
もちろんそれらの欠損は同日のPAアウトのモノラル・サウンドボード音源にて補填した訳ですが、他の日と比べて臨場感の秀でた日ということから冒頭に関してはマルチトラック録音の歓声をミックスさせ、違和感を無くすという処理を徹底していたことがマニアに評価されたもの。このように録音状態そのものが他の日以上に安定していた音源ですので、今回の再リリースに当たって音源の見直しを担当してくれたGraf Zeppelinをして、改めて手を加えるような個所がなかった…と言わしめたほどでした。

そしてこの日の魅力は安定感と臨場感に溢れた録音状態だけにとどまらず、演奏がまた非常に素晴らしい。そんな中でもミックは非常にテンションが高く、勢い余ってオープニング「Under My Thumb」では三番を飛ばしてエンディングに向かってしまうという、言うなれば「その場でショートバージョン」的な展開へと陥れてしまった訳ですが、このハプニングはリリース当初でもマニアにバカ受けした迷場面です。
それでもこの日の演奏はあくまでテンションが高く、なおかつ完成度も高い。12月を迎え、ツアーのゴールであるハンプトンも見え始めてきた時期。ミックやバンドがラストスパートに向かって士気が高まったことは想像に難くなく、それ故にミックがオープニングから暴走してしまったのでは…と推測できます。この後でミックが今度は「Honky Tonk Women」で間奏のタイミングを見誤るというハプニングが起きましたが、ここで彼の歌とキースのギターソロがかち合ってしまう場面がマルチトラック録音のおかげで明瞭に聞き取れてしまうのが愉快。それでも演奏はハイテンションさが持続。

またこの日のラフミックスらしい特徴としては、左から鳴っているロニーのギターの音量が大きいということ。後にメンバー自身も証言しているように、このツアーのロニーはプレイのムラが少なからずあり、ライブアルバムやラジオ放送ではそのあたりが巧みに隠蔽されたミキシングが施された…というか曲によっては目立たなくされていたほどでした。ところが、ここでは終始ロニーのプレイの輪郭がはっきりしており、そのせいで彼の気持ちが入っている曲とそうでない曲でのプレイの差がこれまた明瞭に聞き取れてしまう（笑）という点も意外な魅力となっていたのでした。
こうして2013年に登場した数多くの81年ツアーのマルチトラック録音の中にあって安定感抜群の録音状態とハイテンションな演奏ぶりが評判を呼び、あっという間にSold Outとなってしまったスーパードームが待望の再登場。オフィシャルのハンプトン以外で81年ツアー12月の模様を垣間見たくなったら、まずはコレ…と自信を持って推せるマルチトラック録音の極上音源です。肝心のラジオ放送において「Let It Bleed」たった一曲しか採用されなかったのが不思議なほどハイテンションな名演！
