Among the many free gift items that appeared last year, the one that was by far the most popular was the CD-R that recorded the live performance of the Rolling Stones in Salt Lake City in 2005. In the 2006 live video renewal released last year, Salt Lake City was treated as a bonus with pictures as a “bonus”. However, the performance heard here was really hot, and the finish of the mix was also wonderful, so if this is made into a sound board, it will be the best live album. The gift CD-R made from this concept was “SALT LAKE CITY 2005”.
When it comes to it, it is natural that the stereo sound board recording has the best sound quality, and that is why it was treated as a gift CD-R. However, the popularity of this gift was amazing. It’s not just the best sound quality item of Stones 2005, but above all, it’s a very cool finish as a live album. It’s hard because it has become a sound source that works fine without video. In this respect, it can be said that it is an album with the same position as that best-selling “L.A. FORUM 1975 4TH NIGHT”.
As expected, there were calls for a promotion release to the press CD immediately after its appearance as a free gift, but this was unexpected in a good way. It’s not a vintage live like the LA Forum, but a recent (although more than 15 years ago) Stones live sound source.

Although it was a “bonus video”, the biggest reason why easy gift items became very popular was the intensely hot performance mentioned earlier. “A BIGGER BANG” is a live tour that the members performed for the first time after the 60th birthday, and it was undeniable that it was literally lackluster at the beginning. Later, when the pre-tour Toronto gig was released, there was a great performance there, but when the tour started, the reality of age combined and it became a slow starter.
However, it is the Stones customary pattern that the performance content is enriched as the tour progresses, and when the schedule for this tour reaches November, they finally fully open the engine. Among them, the special gig that was held twice at the Hollywood Bowl was a hot topic at that time as a rear tie release that let me know that the Stones were switched on. Speaking of real time, Salt Lake City had only two songs broadcast at the American Music Awards at the time, but there were too few songs to feel the wonder of the day, and even the audience recording items were released. It wasn’t done.
Because it was a stage record after finishing the Hollywood Bowl, which was a literal turning point in 2005, the performance at Salt Lake City deserves to be called a masterpiece. From the opening, the band below Mick has exploded in a high tension mood, and she has already reached the first peak with “She’s So Cold”. From there, it culminated once in a few songs, and it seemed like the wildness of 1975 was revived 30 years ago, such as “All Down The Line,” which had reached a runaway level. ..

On this day when the tension was too high, the only thing that the Stones-like Yuru could look into was the intro of “Honky Tonk Women” at the end of the B stage. The band and Keith seem to get out of mesh, but the performance on this day is so high tension that it makes me feel relieved. After all, the Stones are on board, and it reminds me of the situation where I can’t stop anymore. And at the end of the live, Stones completely turned into a runaway locomotive. “Satisfaction”, which was also performing at the Hollywood Bowl, was even more spectacular on this day.
Originally it was a stereo sound board recording with the best sound quality, but we have made fine adjustments for this limited press CD promotion release. Above all, if you listen to Charlie’s drums in this song and “Rain Fall Down”, you can see that the sound is getting better. Of course, the original sound quality is the best, so it’s different from the fact that the sound quality has changed significantly, but I still made the final move for promotion to the press CD.
It was proved in last year’s gift that it is the most enjoyable sound source even without video, but that is why I want to have it on a press CD … for enthusiasts. The best live album of the famous performances produced by Stones in the 2000s.

昨年登場した数多くの無料ギフトアイテムの中でも断トツの人気を誇ったのがローリング・ストーンズ2005年のソルトレイク・シティでのライブを収めたCD-R。昨年リリースされた2006年のライブ映像リニューアルにおいて、あくまで“おまけ”として絵付きボーナス的な扱いだったソルトレイク・シティ。ところが、ここで聞かれる演奏が実にアツく、それでいてミックスの仕上がりも素晴らしかったことから、これを音盤化すれば最高のライブアルバムになるのではないか？というコンセプトから作られたギフトCD-Rが「SALT LAKE CITY 2005」でした。
となれば音質最高のステレオ・サウンドボード録音なのは当たり前な訳で、だからこそギフトCD-Rという扱いだった訳です。ところがこのギフトの人気が凄かった。単にストーンズ2005年の音質最高アイテムに留まらず、何よりライブアルバムとして非常にイケてる仕上がりとなってしまったことが大きい。映像を伴わなくとも立派に成り立つ音源の音盤化となってしまったからさあ大変。この点に関してはあのベストセラー「L.A. FORUM 1975 4TH NIGHT」と同じような位置づけのアルバムと言えるでしょう。
案の定プレスCDへの昇格リリースを求める声が無料ギフトとしての登場直後から押し寄せたのですが、これはいい意味で予想外だったのです。というのもLAフォーラムのようなビンテージ・ライブではなく俄然最近の（とはいっても15年以上前になるのですが）ストーンズ・ライブ音源ですし。

“おまけ映像”でありながら、お手軽ギフトアイテムが大好評を博してしまった最大の原因、それは先にも触れた激アツな演奏。「A BIGGER BANG」はメンバーが初めて還暦を過ぎて行われたライブ・ツアーであり、開始当初は文字通り精彩を欠いていた感が否めなかった。後にツアー開始前のトロント・ギグがリリースされた際、そこでは素晴らしい演奏が聞かれたものの、いざツアーが始まってみれば年齢という現実が合わさってスロースターターとなってしまった。
ところがツアーが進むにつれて演奏内容が充実してくるのはストーンズ恒例パターンであり、本ツアーに関してもスケジュールが11月に到達すると遂に彼らがエンジン全開。中でもハリウッド・ボウルで二回に渡って行われたスペシャル・ギグはストーンズのスイッチがオンになってくれたことを知らしめてくれたリアタイ・リリースとして当時のアイテムが話題を呼んだものでした。さらにリアルタイムと言えばソルトレイク・シティは当時アメリカン・ミュージック・アワードにて二曲だけ放送された訳ですが、この日の素晴らしさを感じるには曲数が少なすぎ、なおかつオーディエンス録音のアイテムすらリリースされていなかった。
2005年における文字通りの分岐点となったハリウッド・ボウルを終えた後のステージ記録なだけに、ソルトレイク・シティでの演奏は正に名演と呼ぶに相応しい。もうオープニングからミック以下バンドはハイテンションなムードで炸裂しており、早くも「She’s So Cold」で最初のピークを迎えてしまうというキレッキレな勢い。そこから数曲に一回は絶頂迎えるといった調子で、もはや暴走の域に達した「All Down The Line」など、30年前に戻って1975年のワイルドさが蘇ったかと錯覚しそうなほどでした。

あまりにもハイテンションなこの日、唯一ストーンズらしいユルさが顔を覗かせるのがBステージ終わりの「Honky Tonk Women」のイントロ。バンドとキースが噛み合わなくなりそうになってしまうのですが、この日の演奏があまりにハイテンションなので、むしろホッとさせられてしまうほど。何しろストーンズが乗りに乗っており、もう止まるに止まれないといった状況をかえって偲ばせてくれる。そしてライブ終盤は完全に暴走機関車と化したストーンズ。ハリウッド・ボウルでも爆裂演奏を披露していた「Satisfaction」がこの日はさらに壮絶な調子。
元々が音質最高なステレオ・サウンドボード録音ですが、今回の限定プレスCD昇格リリースに際しては微調整を加えています。中でもこの曲や「Rain Fall Down」におけるチャーリーのドラムを聞けば音の抜けが良くなっていることを解ってもらえるのではないでしょうか。もちろん元の音質が極上ですので大幅に音質が変わったというのとは違いますが、それでもプレスCD昇格の為の最後の一手を加えたのです。
このように映像抜きでも最高に楽しめる音源であることは昨年のギフトにて実証済みでしたが、だからこそプレスCDで持っていたい…というマニアの為に。2000年代ストーンズが生み出した名演中の名演を音盤化した最高のライブアルバム！
