Billy Joel came to Japan for the first time in three years with the US No. 1 album “STORM FRONT” since “GLASS HOUSES”. Introducing the finest version of Pro Shot, which has reigned as a symbol.

以上、全７公演。ビリーの初ドームは1988年でしたが、その時は一夜限りの限定来日でした。その３年後となる1991年は全国を巡るツアーであり、東京ドーム公演も二晩で実現。本作が撮影されたのはその２公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウは某民放局からTV放送された事でも知られ、“STORM FRONT Tour”の象徴として定番化。数々の既発群も生み出して来ました。本作もまたそのTV放送プロショットで、過去最高峰クオリティを更新する１枚でもあるのです。実のところ、前述した『OSAKA 1991 1ST NIGHT』にも同番組のボーナスDVDRが付属していましたが、本作はさらに美しい新マスター。さすがに放送そのもののアナログ感があるので現代基準で「オフィシャル級」とは呼びづらいものの、当時基準でしたら全力で断言できる。マスター・ダイレクトだからこそのダビング痕ゼロな瑞々しさも素晴らしく、白線ノイズ１本見当たらない鮮度も絶大。髪の毛の１本１本や手の皺、流れる汗の１粒まで当時そのままに甦るのです。
そして、その映像美で描かれるステージも特濃。約１時間の放送枠なためにフルショウとはほど遠いのですが、その分名曲の濃縮感が素晴らしい。ここで、その内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。「Only The Good Die Young」では客席に握手しまくりながら歌うシーンは正月早々の浮かれた空気感が滲みますし、弾き語りの「Georgia On My Mind」や後半にバンドも入ってくる「New York State Of Mind」、それにラストを飾る「Piano Man」など、『OSAKA 1991 1ST NIGHT』でも聴けないシーンが登場します。
そんなショウだけでもお腹いっぱいですが、本作はさらに合間に挟まれる懐かCMの時代感も濃厚。この公演は日本の電話事業100周年を記念するものでもあり、番組スポンサーも某大手電話会社。CMでは連続ホームドラマ仕立てで当時の通信サービスを紹介していくのです。
前編（第１話ー第16話）は同時リリースとなるBON JOVIの『FINAL COUNTDOWN 1990』に収録されており、本作で観られるのは後編（第17話から最終回）。昨年亡くなった田○邦衛やまだ20代だった薬師丸ひ○子、中○貴一といったキャストも豪華なら、紹介されるサービスの時代感も濃厚。コードレスホンやポケベルなどは前編にも登場しましたが、こちらでは公衆電話が新幹線や飛行機にも設置されている事が偉かったり、ファックスが便利だったり。さらにはカラオケもできるナゾの情報メディア「キャプテン」も喧伝。今にもダイヤルＱ２を宣伝し出すんじゃないかと思うほどの時代感です。
また、番組終了後は電話会社以外の一般CMも見られる。『パシフィック・ハイツ』『アタメ』など、知ってる人には懐かしいけどそんな人は多くない微妙な映画CMが流れ、知っていても懐かしくないミュージカル『ピーターパン』も登場。ジャッキー・チェンのファミコンゲームまで流れます。そんな中で忘却の彼方から力尽くで甦ってくるのがバイト求人誌のCM。30年の時を超えて「かーかきんきん♪　かーきんきん?」というノー天気なCMソングを脳裏に焼き付けやがるのです。
閑話休題。そんな懐かCM達に囲まれつつ、東京ドームを沸かしていた当時41歳だったビリー・ジョエルの歌声こそが素晴らしい。バブルが霧散しようとしていた時代を優しく慰めてくれた名曲群。どうぞ、最高峰クオリティの本作でじっくりとお楽しみください。
